This was the mid 60s like 1965 to 1967. There was not that much color television in the 1950s. I should know, I saw these when they were first broadcast. And we had a partially deal neighbor lady who would sing along to this commercial off key!
I remember seeing this in my early years growing up. My Mom always had a pack of either this or Juicy Fruit (depending on her mood) in her pocketbook. To this day I always have a pack of gum on me, but it's usually either spearmint or peppermint flavored 5 gum (also made by Wrigley, if I'm not mistaken).
This is when Wrigley's gum was good. Why they changed all the "old" gums to sugar free is beyond me. Not every one can tolerate aspartame. I'd love to chew a piece of spearmint or Juicy Fruit but, it will make me sick. }=~|
Actually, I don't remember that one. But I do have some ads on my videos with the Doublemint Twins singing the jingle "Double your pleasure, Double your fun weith Double Good, Double Good Doublemiint Gum!" I also have a print ad from about 1925 for Doublemint Gum. Ironically, while I love the Wrigley's Doublemint ads. I HATE Doublemint Gum! And I'm not too fond of Wrigley's Spearmint Gum either, though I love the older ads for it! But I do love Juicy Fruit and Big Red. I love their ads too.
I don't know their names, but I do have at least 2 ads on my videos with that jingle from the 50's/60's. I was born in '65, and i don't remember that jingle on TV at all. The earliest Doublemint ad I remember is the semi-animated ad I mentioned before that uses the song "Paper Moon" for its jiingle. Somebody actually uploaded one of thse ads on Youtube when they uploaded the commercial breaks for a 1971 showing of the movie "Topper." It's in commercial break #1.
the jingles written by Steve Karmen that I mentioned earlier ("Carry the Big Fresh Flavor" and "You'll Love that Big Long-Lasting Flavor" for Wrigley's Spearmint Gum, also "Doublemint will do it", and "Pick a Pack" (Juicy Fruit Gum) were from the early to mid 70's. I know, because I have them in a Steve Karmen songbook, and I read the copyright dates. My dad once met P. K.Wrigley, grandson of the original Mr. Wrigley! P. K. was drunk, and stumbled up to my dad in a bar in Lake Geneva!
He said, "I'm P. K. Wrigley! Have a stick of gum!" The Wrigleys owned a large estate on the take. My parents have a cottage on the other side of the lake, about a quarter mile uphill. My dad chewed the fat with P. K. for a while, then as P. K. was leaving my dad says to the bartender "Who the hell was that??" "Oh, that's P. K. Wrigley!" says the bartender! '"Really?" says my dad, "THE P. K. Wriglety?" "Yeah!" says the bartender, " See those big guys with him? They're his bodyguards!"
The Wrigley's jingles I remember best are one 1960's-70's campaign for Doublemint that was semi-animated and used the song "Paper Moon" for it. Another was for Wrigley's in the early 70's that showed various people carrying gigantic packs of Wrigley's to the jingle "Carry the Big Fresh Flavor", written by famous jingle writer Steve Karmen. The other is for Juicy Fruit-also from the 70's that showed people who would "Pick a Pack"-another jingle written by Steve Karman-from the Juicy Fruit tree.
I remember Wrigley's 1967 jingle for "Juicy Fruit": "Stre-e-etch...your coffee break/Top it off with Juicy Fruit gum!" (the visual being a steaming coffee cup optically stetched thin to "wide-screen size")...
I'm surprised I still remember it,anqiyu.I remember always hearing that jingle ad whenever my mom was watching her &$#@(&? soaps on CBS during the early 1960s.
my mom is 46 years old and my grandma said my mom would run in the living room singing it wen she was only 1!!!! lol
