I love the idea of experimental music, but I want to enjoy listening to it, so for me it's not as important to always be way outside the realm of familiarity as to be pushing toward that boundary and occasionally crossing it while remaining within the realm of groovability. just as every snow flake is unique, they are all still recognizable as snowflakes. the real question is wether you enjoy it.
Well, this is a more than a few years old but there's not one single sound or idea I haven't heard before.
Music isn't evolving any more. You can take any combination of instuments and vocals, computers and synths and you'll never produce anything that hasn't been done already.
It's depressing but it's the truth.
After thousands of years of music history and millions of composers/musicians, there's nowhere lef to go.
I used to think this, but yet I continue to find bands that push into new territory (Don't get me wrong.. this video isnt it.. hell, this stuff has been done since the 1970)
The thing is... if you where aware of any compleatly new style of music.. I'm sure you would be doing it. It feels like nothing is left, because nobody has found the new thing yet.
Hardly ever in music history though has there been a massive leap ahead. It only seems that way when you look back on it. Evolution is slow.
@arp1978 I think that, in order for the music to evolve, it is necessary to reject what is considered popular music, and shift towards more progresive and experimental ways of composing. Developing the use of quarter tones or using oriental instruments would also contribute, as well as playind modal or developing new instruments
Great stuff! possible influence from Conrad Schnitzler, ex Tangerine Dream member? And does anyone remember avant guarde group Nurse with Wound? (from UK)
Perfect noise music dudes. I am CompuMusik. I used to do similar material in NYC. Keep up the good work. I'm posting this to my blog. Wonderful dreamy avant garde.
there might still be hope

You're views actually are not far from my own, however I am optimistic for the future of music. I am but a mere dabbler in sound.

I hope you're right!
Anything I try to create sounds 20 years old. If I go abstract, it just sounds like free jazz. Maybe i'm just too blinkered.
Anyway, keep trying to push the boundries. I'm listening!

By far the best framing and visuals of the ExMus series. I don't nearly like the stylistic mix as much, though.
