This is a practice put in place after 9/11, as the flashing lights and sirens are believed to scare would-be "terrorists", much like the dragon dances done in Chinatown are designed to drive away evil spirits. So far no evil spirits other than Rudy and his pal Larry Silverstein have been seen threatening NYC.
PGChief thanks, I figured that was it. When I look in the NYPD RMPS I see the vision control head. In some cars they have the smart siren, and in the unmarked impalas I see the smartsiren control head with read letters written on it.
The control head for the Vision is a slightly modified Smart Siren head. So when you buy a Vision, you get a Smart Siren & Lightbar control all in one neat little unit. :)
I liked the old BLUE New York City police cars much better. They were blue with a white stripe and white lettering. That's how it was for much of the 80's and 90's. But, it's looks like most departments are now switching to patrol cars that are primarily white, or black and white. I still prefer blue. By the way, how can you tell the sirens apart??
I looked in some of the NYPD cars and they have the Vision Keypads..Do those vision keypads have smart siren tones? They have too..because I never heard a NYPD RMP with different tones other then smart siren.
They use the Fedral Signal Vision light bars..That comes with its own control head. So how does NYPD use smart siren? And on the smart siren control head theres really no buttons to mess around with the light bar rotation.
Wouldn't they just use the control heads seperatly? Here in the LASD Patrol vehicles the Mx7000 lightbars are wired to the smartsiren control head but it wouldnt be impossible to wire the Fed Sig Vision Lightbars to the smartsiren control head the CHP does it.
Yup, there's Federal Signal SmartSirens. Love them, but I miss those old light blue & white NYPD 1990 Caprices with the old-school SignalStat electronic sirens :-D
ARe you saying that these sirens in this clip are not electronic sirens? If so, what kind are they? I mean, they sound electronic to me. I don't think they are mechanical sirens or air sirens, so what else could they be?
