Paul's campaign printed and distributed the signs. Although Orr claims they didn't ask him to post it, it's reasonable to assume that the campaign expects the signs they give to supporters to be displayed.
Not surprising that FOX couldn't figure this one out.
So what, he BOUGHT the sign, it's his property. I've bought the exact same signs FROM the Ron Paul 2008 campaign, & now they're my property & I'm free to display them on my property. But regardless, the first amendment to the constitution & the Florida state constitution obviously trump city ordinances.
Hold on! At 1:25 Orr says he paid for the sign and thus the ordinance doesn't apply to him. Bullshit! It is CLEARLY printed on the sign "Paid for by the Ron Paul...Campaign." If Ron Paul's campaign paid for the sign, then it sounds like the ordinance applies.
Maybe he can paint Ron Paul 2008 on a piece of plywood and stick it in his yard. At that point no one can argue that it was paid for by Paul's campaign.
This all sounds good but the problem is this nuttless fellow TOOK HIS SIGN DOWN. He has already lost due to a fear of saggy balled city officials trying to tell everyone what to do on their own property. He should leave the sign up, post a no trepassing sign and deal with whatever comes. In any event, he is already beaten by taking his sign down. Another fine example of the "Land of the free and home of the BRAVE"...yeah right.

Well, in that case I would vote for Ron Paul. Really, if it comes down to the two you mention, this is not a choice at all. Would you vote for Mao or Stalin? And how do you imagine Rudy could win the country when he can't win a single Repub primary?
I never understood campaign, protest, or picket signs. Have you ever driven by a sign and have a sudden burst of reversal on an issue or a candidate? So much more can be accomplished by a simple bit of direct advertising like a leaflet placed on an entryway. That particular method forces the, in this case, grave information to be in hands of the target: the uninformed citizen.
Every time they censor will just be another person in place in support of this nations constitution. One should not seek legal advice when the constitution explains it all in black and white. But then again a collective of thoughts is more stronger then one mind.

The powers that be just don't like Ron Paul or they don't understand English (maybe both).
It is neither, but my cousin who works for FP&L has standing orders to remove ALL campaign signs from any utility pole wherever observed for safety protocol. Now U know. Have a nice day.
Let's be clear here, what you do on your property is your business, but put any campaign sign on a utility pole and it will be removed on sight by FP&L personnel.
"will be removed on sight by FP&L personnel." The 'me and my friends' you refer to. Are any of these people employed by FP&L? If not, I think the act of tearing down a sign on a pole could be considered trespassing as much as placing the sign might be?
WTF. why do people hate freedom and rights so much. is that sign hurting any one or any thing? no! well i would just hang the sign from a rope from the tree lol. i would cover the tree. that dosent count
The ordinance only has to do with TEMPORARY signs. Tell them it's PERMANENT!! Why do realtors get to put up their signs anywhere they want including off the property they are selling? (in AZ anyway) Check out my video of my Ron Paul bumper stickers. Keep up the fight for freedom!
What the officials don't understand, is that each time they "stop" a Ron Paul Supporter - it gets turned around back on them. You start making the news!!
PS: are you allowed to put the sign on your roof - turn it around. Make them rue the day they took on a Ron Paul supporter!!
Well done for posting this on Youtube - even little me in the UK has seen the sign... and that wouldn't have happened, if they'd been sensible about this.
I lived in Tampa in 1999/2000 and there was Bush/chenny signs on every fuckin' corner and every other car had a bumper sticker stating the same. Florida is the most fucked up state in america. Its just a swamp shit hole full of hipocrates.
Get about 10,000 signs and get about 100 people to place them all over town at night. Do it at about 3:00 a.m. and wear all black. It will make national news. ;)
I know many in Florida can't put signs out because you get charged!!! SOOOOO this is an idea: Set up clotheslines in your backyard!!!Hang t-shirts on a clotheslines & on each shirt right a letter when you look at it from a distance it spells: RON PAUL 2008 or Google: Ron Paul
They can't say it's a sign... you have your clothes drying outside :).. it's all your right!! SPREAD THE WORD!!
Hey, consider that you got RP thousands of dollars in primetime advertisement!! AND ON A FOX AFFILIATE!!! LOL!! Great Job buddy! Now, I hope you can fight the ordinance and win!
I swear, I am not lying. This happened to me. I had a Ron Paul Revolution sign outside my house. And the city gave 4 days to take it down. I still have the notice.
The very fact that these officials made a big deal about a Ron Paul sign and got media attention for their blunder, is good news for our revolution. These are the very issues that make us fight so hard to elect Ron Paul!! I'm glad the sign is back in his yard and thank God the guy had the smarts to call the media about it...a true revolutionist!!
Ron Paul has balls to stand up against the grain of those official sonsofthefreemasonbitches !! . Vote RON PAUL ..this may ybe your last hope in the American that we now know . Donate to the RON PAUL campaign this is the best money you will ever spend to secure a free American future for you and your family . go to -ronpaul2008(Dot)com
Are you kidding me, put that back up, they cant make you pay that unless they take you to court where you will win no doubt. If you are a true ron paul supporter something like this wont even come close to stopping you from expressing yourself. If you want freedom, you have to fight!
It is not so much that it was a Ron Paul sign. The point was that it was a political sign that was deemed by the municipality as being in violation of a city code. The individual owner of the house payed the mortgage to the bank or mortgage company and not to the city. He could and should do whatever he wants to the house. Furthermore, tell these city officials that you will have my attorneys on their legal a##es like "white on rice"
Okay...... What is the phone number and address to the governing authority? I wonder what their position would be if they received some 22,000 phone calls or letters disclosing the pirvate property owners 1st amendment rights? That is the revolution! We must stand up and in one voice tell them we have had enough of their crap. We,re not going to take it anymore.
That is insane. I can somewhat understand a deposit being required from a campaign when signs are posted along the sides of roads but this is someone's private property.
Why are people downplaying Ron Paul just because he has the majority of the online support? I mean, who isn't on the Internet? Everyone is on the fucking internet.
If the online polls favored Rudy to John, then it would be all over the Media. But because its only "Ron Paul", they are brushing it aside as to say it means nothing.
But like I said before, More people are online and fewer are watching CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc.
And thats why they are afraid of the Internet. Let not forget that all those media outlets have their own Website. Even though they only get visitors who have access to the internet.
But in a system with corrupt cops eager for arrests, zealous state attorneys eager for convictions, jaded and overwhelmed public defenders eager for quick pleas, and rigid bond judges eager to set bail far beyond what anyone in the defendant's socio-economic class could reasonably afford, there is little opportunity for a fair trial.
That's government "service" for you. Protecting you from your right to express yourself. Authoritarianism is on the rise in this country. Is that really the direction we want to go? I don't.
Government already dictates how much of our income we get to keep. In theory, they could take it all. Do we want the same thing to happen to personal liberties?
Do we want an America where you're free to express the official government position as much as you want? (Don't even dare to suggest that there are OTHER opinions!!!)
We have less than three months until the primaries. Please do what you can to support Ron Paul.
REGISTER REPUBLICIAN NOW: States with OPEN primaries are now CLOSING!!
You CANNOT switch parties after OCTOBER 12 in NEW YORK and NEW HAMPSHIRE and if you are not registered as republican by then, YOU CANNOT VOTE FOR RON PAUL
You don't have to register as Republican or Democrat or anything. We are Americans. That is what matters. A person can be registered as an independent if forced to and still vote for Ron Paul.
Do not listen to this man, you MUST register REPUBLICAN if you want to vote for Ron Paul in New York by October 12, you might as well register republican in other states, who knows what the GoP will pull to try to keep Ron Paul out.
If he left the sign up and didn't pay the fee, he would be exercising his right to civil disobedience. However civil disobedience can have its consequences. Ron Paul is a big believer in civil disobedience, but again, be prepared for the consequences. Ron Paul 2008!!
Jazz, I agree. It's less than the $1000 they're trying to get from the Pinellas county man with the signs on his fence. I hope a local attorney takes the case for free. It'll be great publicity for his firm. They'll probably get a lot more business too.
Oh I get it now! Speech is free, as long as you have 50 FRN's in exchange for it! Thanks for clearing that up. Oh... and do I get to place a bumper sticker on my car for a buck three eighty-five?
What idiots! this is getting to be too much! I would be curious if any Mitt, or Billary sign posters have been cited and if the campaign paid the fine.
The City of Claremont "leadership" is full of crap. Requiring a fee to display a political sign in your own front yard is Bolshevik and un-American. Telling a citizen that he will be fined $250 if he doesn't remove his Ron Paul sign by that morning is pure thuggery. Throw the thugs out. Let's get people who understand the 1st Amendment into our governments.
We our losing our freedoms people! Him being fined over a Ron Paul sign? Our Government doesn't want him elected. We need to elect him people! We must stop the CFR and vote for Ron Paul!
I appreciate your commitment, Bud. I think about what I would have done, and my first instinct would be to plant about 50 signs on my property and picket city hall. But it's not my house and life on the line. The thing is, hopefully at least some progress can be made within the system as Bryan did. I agree that it's time to at least start getting prepared for the personal sacrifice that it takes to dare civil disobedience and the inconveniences that it will bring with in.
That's such BS. If he has a sign that says "I love to rape young boys", there's an obvious reason why it shouldn't be there. But this sign is harmless. Total, B. S.
Good Job! Do you have more info on that law change? I wonder if you would like to write up an article about everything that happened to you. I think it would be a very good idea to document everything, as we go along. I believe very strongly that we must fight tyranny through, as Alex Jones calls it, "The Infowars". I'm pretty sure Alex would post an article from you on this.
Now I wouldn't call this guy a disgrace to America. I mean at least he is raising a stink over it, instead of just complying and disappearing. He is afterall a Ron Paul supporter. That speaks quite a lot for him. The fact is, it is his right to decide what he wants to do with his property-that's what this is all about.
""new world order is just a myth"" yeah right its unfolding right in front of our faces by the day. it is now illegal to walk around new york without ID. you get fined for not having it in nyc. the united states of freedom or should i say fascism
I'd like to know how this clear violation of the First Amendment and Florida constitution is resolved.
I thin k he should put the sign up and get fined and go to court over it, seeking to quash the law as unconstitutional. You may have to get charged in order to get the matter in court. It's outrageous and every good American would support someone taking on a clear censorship edict to rid it.
If you make it a "permanent sign" then the ordinance for "Temporary Political Signs" will not apply. Just mount it on something that isn't going anywhere. He is right about the ordinance pertaining to the politician, not the homeowner.
Does anyone know about anyone else in this town with political yard signs posted? Is this just against Ron Paul, or are they enforcing other candidate yard signs as well?
I recommend getting massive people in the town, to post yard signs all over the place at the same time, take the warning, let it be played on the news - expand the coverage, spread the word.
F%$#@!& would be Tyrants. See how the government can break the law and get away with it. Through intimidation. They are just a bunch of thugs, criminals and gangsters. America, land of the free and home of the brave? No, no, no.. Its Amerika, land of the deceived and home of the enslaved. Can anyone smell the fascism. This type of shit has got to be stopped.
Free speech is like one of those amendment thingys ain't it? America is no longer a nation of law. Our police and military have been taken over by a criminal organization. Your life is now in your own hands. It is up to you to defend your own life. The constitution and our civil liberties only exist so long as we are willing to fight for them. Freedom cannot be given. It must be claimed.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
See...this goes to show that Ron Paul supporters go around breaking laws. Sure, when they're called out they obey, but just think: if there wasn't a TV segment about it, he would probably still be breaking the law in his front yard there.
Did you even watch the video? The law in question specifically states that it has to be a sign put there by the candidate or a rep. of that candidate. The guy did it of his own free will. Not to mention it violates his free speech. Conformist slaves like you shouldnt exist
The GOVERNMENT does NOT own other peoples property.Wake up people, they are slowly taking away our rights. What gives the government the right to OWN people and PEOPLES property? They didn't bring us into this world. This is abominable.Ron paul=Freedom from the NWO/CFR=slavery.RP,2008
But the government ACTS like they THINK they do -- why else charge "property tax", and ESPECIALLY think about "eminent domain".
Face it: government is not your friend, they are not there to protect you or serve you, and they think they own you (and your life, including your children!)
Visited AdventuresInLegalLand[dot]com to learn more about alternative to violently coercive govern-ment i.e. control-ment
The Government DOES own everyones property. How else can they collect tax on it? "Pay your tax or we take our property back." Why can't you morons understand the Federal Government OWNS you, and soon, if you complain about your health care, they will kill you.
You see how this back fired on the local thugs. They tried to enforce a none law by intimidation and fraud and what do they get. They get owned by a smart guy who knows his rights and Ron Paul gets a 3:20 free commercial is his home town. These bastards time is up. RON PAUL 2008!
he should just paint on his lawn in big letters RON PAUL or come up with a clever way and throw the technicality of the city ordinance in their face...
maybe by carving ron paul on the tree or painting the side of his house or something like that lol hahah
"I would vote for Ron Paul via write-in." Now theres an idea. Be the first one to the polls and write in Ron Paul for every office. It will take so long (with the electronic spinny wheel letter picker from diebold) that yours will be the only ballot cast that day.
Getting the same problem here in areas of my city. The bureaucrats are scared of ron paul. They know he truely is for smaller government. Land of the free my a_s_s
Total fear of the freedom message. Also, they want it in your mind that any bullshit they come up with to justify stripping away your Constitutional rights is unquestionable. FUCK. THAT.
The oddest thing to all this is that the GOP attacks Ron Paul even more than the Dems do. I would expect it from them, and maybe to a small degree from his own party, but the most viscious of attacks are coming from his own party.
Do Hunter and Tancredo get this kind of negative attention? Clearly they see Ron Paul as a threat. This is good and bad news.
Definitely not justifying this, but I think the point of the $50 fee is to pay for the city to come and clean up the signs after an election.
But it most definitely does NOT apply to him since this was not a sign provided by the campaign. This is his personal property displayed on his personal property.
Someone DEFINITELY didn't like Ron Paul specifically (not the city as a whole, I am sure, probably a neighbor supporting another candidate) and turned this dude in.
These violations are always unconstitutional. The laws are typically enacted with the purpose of doing good, such as keeping the city clean, but are often used to violate basic civil rights. City ordinances are the most common way of eliminating free speech.
Check around and you'll find that the law is targeting Ron Paul and isn't being evenly enforced. Florida is a hotbed for illegal election scandals.
wow that's so sad. They are so afraid of Ron Paul cause he speaks the truth.

It is neither, but my cousin who works for FP&L has standing orders to remove ALL campaign signs from any utility pole wherever observed for safety protocol. Now U know. Have a nice day.

Let's be clear here, what you do on your property is your business, but put any campaign sign on a utility pole and it will be removed on sight by FP&L personnel.
nhilst600 4 years ago
"will be removed on sight by FP&L personnel." The 'me and my friends' you refer to. Are any of these people employed by FP&L? If not, I think the act of tearing down a sign on a pole could be considered trespassing as much as placing the sign might be?

The ordinance only has to do with TEMPORARY signs. Tell them it's PERMANENT!! Why do realtors get to put up their signs anywhere they want including off the property they are selling? (in AZ anyway) Check out my video of my Ron Paul bumper stickers. Keep up the fight for freedom!

Put a huge sign on your roof. HUGE SIGN.
I bet the fifty bucks you would have to pay to have your little sign WOULD pay for the materials and paint for a LARGE Ron Paul sign.
Get with your local Ron Paul meetup group and have them pitch in to help you erect this huge roof sign.

MarcScottEmery 4 years ago
If you make it a "permanent sign" then the ordinance for "Temporary Political Signs" will not apply. Just mount it on something that isn't going anywhere. He is right about the ordinance pertaining to the politician, not the homeowner.

GR4RonPaul 4 years ago 2
Definitely not justifying this, but I think the point of the $50 fee is to pay for the city to come and clean up the signs after an election.
But it most definitely does NOT apply to him since this was not a sign provided by the campaign. This is his personal property displayed on his personal property.
Someone DEFINITELY didn't like Ron Paul specifically (not the city as a whole, I am sure, probably a neighbor supporting another candidate) and turned this dude in.
GR4RonPaul 4 years ago
These violations are always unconstitutional. The laws are typically enacted with the purpose of doing good, such as keeping the city clean, but are often used to violate basic civil rights. City ordinances are the most common way of eliminating free speech.
Check around and you'll find that the law is targeting Ron Paul and isn't being evenly enforced. Florida is a hotbed for illegal election scandals.
