  • Wow that commercial just feels like it came from a time long ago. I wonder what a kid from that time placed into today would think about commercials.

  • does anyone else find those mini toucans a little creepy..... in fact i find most 50's 60's and 70's cartoons really creepy and disturbing (I don't really know why), but i was shocked to find out the 'fruit' flavours come from actual fruit.... i mean wow, froot loops seem slightly less like some radioactive Chernobyl byproduct, and even ... healthy?( no definitely not) Who cares anyway, they are the BEST CERAL EVER!!!!

  • Toucan Sam had an American accent?

  • @wyldcherry That's because it was Mel Blanc doing the voce.

  • Man in this ad sam doesn't give a crap about the nephew with the cold!

  • Ah, the '40's, when companies could proudly announce that their cereal was covered in chunks of sugar.

  • @Millennia0007 you know it's 1i963 dumbass

  • LOL

  • How old is this???

  • Early fifties I'm guessing.

  • mid 40s

  • Froot Loops were introduced by Kellogg's in 1963.

  • Wow! I didn't know Mel Blanc was the original voice of Toucan Sam. What year did Paul Frees replace him?

  • WOw... "Sugar Crystals"?

No wonder the two kids are floating.

  • don't go froot loopin' up in my cereal bowl.

  • how long was this ago

  • if only commercials were this cool today instead of being retarded

  • Toucan Sam was played by my moms grandfather back then.

  • I doubt that highly -- since the voice was Mel Blanc's until they eventually made him have an British accent as he does currently. If your great-grandfather were Mel Blanc I am sure you would mention that first -- AND that he was the voice of nearly EVERY Warner Bros. character back in the day...

  • if Mel is your great-grandfather then who is YOUR grandfather? it should be an easy question. A great grandfather is the father of a grandfather.

  • great way to sell breakfast cereal to dyslexic kids.

  • Hat'stay oolcay! Iway idn'tday nowkay hattay Elmay Lancbay idday hetay oicevay ofay Oucantay Amsay inay Igpay Atinlay!

  • Wow, Toucan Sam was more of a grouch back then.

  • @KazuyaPrower and his nephews were babies

  • Listenimng to it, I realizer it is Mel Blanc, ngiven mjuch better material than in the Warner cartoons (yes, that even incoludes all of Chuck Jones's so claled "classics" like "

Whats opera Doc" or Friz's Daffy hate fests where one dimensionality had replaced the nicer, funnier older hcarcters. Froot Loops and Flintstones and magoo shorts gave Mel Blanc new grounbd to work with franchise wise!

  • That's the great Mel Blanc as Toucan Sam.

  • Paul Frees, I think.

  • Wikipedia says: The cartoon character Toucan Sam was originally voiced by Mel Blanc, using an ordinary American accent. Blanc's original commercials were noted for their use of Pig Latin (referring to the cereal as OOT-fray OOPS-lay). The ad agency later decided to switch to the English accent more commonly associated with the character. They then employed Paul Frees to do what is, in effect, an imitation of Ronald Colman.

  • I like the commercial...I bet the children of the time period drove their parent's nuts with the pig Latin, though. I can picture my nieces and nephews had this commercial been running today...they'd be running around talking like that and I'd probably say "STOP!!!". I'm more familiar with Paul Frees take on the character... "just follow your nose, it always knows". I once had a 45 RPM of the character...they were giving them away as prizes inside the cereal box at the time.

  • Toucan Sam hates kids.

  • no, no...he doesn't hate kids...the character is depicted as the "teacher" who's annoyed at being upstaged by his "students" so whenever one of the younger birds says something that Toucan thinks will make him look bad/less smart, he gives them that look as if to say "hey, who's the teacher here...you or me?". I thought it was funny.
