Even expectations by well meaning parents that are not obviously harmful (advocating housewifery, highest aspiration is making babies, male breadwinners) can hurt a girl's future success. Being demure, modest and "ladylike" will make a woman's interviews and negotiations suffer. These roles are still a problem.

I am not saying that it's because of malicious people, I am merely stating a fact that is confirmed by both governments. The origins of this problem are of course more complex then sexists bosses. I really don't like that whenever I say, "I'm a feminist" I also have to say, "I'm not a sexist". Feminism is about equality, not female superiority.

@SPARTAAN09 I just said that it's not about sexist bosses. In my opinion, a lot of the problems you bring up can be partially explained by bringing children up with damaging gender roles. Even expectations by well meaning parents that are not obviously harmful (advocating housewifery, highest aspiration is making babies, male breadwinners) can hurt a girl's future success. Being demure, modest and "ladylike" will make a woman's interviews and negotiations suffer. These roles are still a problem.

@SPARTAAN09 According to the Statistics Canada website women get paid 87.5% what men do. According to the U.S. department of labour it's 81.2%. I am not saying that it's because of malicious people, I am merely stating a fact that is confirmed by both governments. The origins of this problem are of course more complex then sexists bosses. I really don't like that whenever I say, "I'm a feminist" I also have to say, "I'm not a sexist". Feminism is about equality, not female superiority.

@MiraMac92 The reason for that has nothing to do with women being treated unfairly, but women taking more sick days, having (in many cases) less experience and education, not to mention pregnancy and worse results than men in many jobs where the difference in pay is great. See, not even two men earn the SAME wage, yet men don't complain, because Doctor A with only 2 years of experience is not worth the same pay as Doctor B with 20. Would go more in detail, but youtube's limiting me :P

@planetary We do get treated better by strangers, and we get free stuff, yeah that happens. But we also get payed 23% less than men on average in the U.S. There has never been an elected female President/Prime Minister in Canada or the U.S. Female politicians are critiqued based on their wardrobe choices. And lets not forget the rape and abuse that so many more women go through than men. How about we get rid of all sexual discrimination? Because equality is bigger than who gets in a club or not.

@MiraMac92 Actually, if you knew anything about economics and how wages are actually determined, you'd see that women in fact do not get paid less on account of being women. If that were true, I could hire ONLY women in my company and absolutely crush any opposition in the market. Not meaning any offense, but seriously, I recommend actually studying the things you believe in, because much of what feminism spouts is false. I mean, the historical inaccuracy is completely mindboggling...

In addition, the Greek also figured out the Atoms, circa 2000 years before it was even possible to determine. One shouldn't underestimate the intelligence of humans before the age of technology, my friend. :)
