the same thing happened to me i can't fit all the information that i need like what the songs are and all that for copyright protection without getting the Please check your video discription
I looked for someone else who ran into this problem, but I am still in the dark, too. My best guess is that they cut back on the length of video descriptions as people were making uploads with entire (very lengthy) essays and memory space cost money.

Yeah, I ran into this the first time I tried to upload something. Very helpful - not. Eventually I solved it by removing all instances of the less than and greater than characters. (Don't dare type them here.)
Thanks for your video. This is not a temporary glitch. I too have a youtube video " Please check your video description." Drives me nuts. Some of my videos that have 2000 words including many urls. Not sure about the period. Have a website on Youtube Directions at NelsonIdeasdot but no answer. Title can not have same words as in tags. 342 Websites, 84 Youtubes When You find out on description please please call me. Brian Nelson Houston TX 713-467-3025
Do you guys think that we could get the YouTube gods to bless us once more if we sacrificed some youtubers to them? To clearly show them that we do have faith in them?
I think a lot of the problems are intentional, I may be wrong, but if you had a site that you wanted to push more and more away from text and towards video the changes they are making is what you would do.
If people want to say something you force them to say it in their video not in comments, if they want to send youtube a message you do it in a video, if you want to comment on someone's video you post a video response.
Video comments are very suceptable to search engine spam, the importance of the site gives individual pages overly high importance in search engine results, that can be seen with entries on wikipedia for example.
Nothing personal, but I hope you're wrong. If the only way to contribute an idea longer than a sentence or two is to make an entire video, that'll squash a lot of great discussion.
I hope I'm wrong as well, as far as the description I don't think I am, and long comments work fine as long as you only use a period at the end, there is basically a hit or miss one sentence comment limit, it may depend on the letters you use after the period, if they are like com or net or us or any of the hundreds of other domain extentions, it won't work.
Hmmm, yeah, a basic rule of error messages is it's helpful if the error message tells you WHAT is wrong. Good to know youtube is useless in that respect.
I tried to write a comment to your last video and youtube wouldn't let me! It kept saying that my message was too long, even when I cut down to 1 word!
You can spam your own video description by putting in a lot of commercial links if you are a misbehaving videomaker It would be appropriate to use a different spamblocking technology for this but obviously they are experimenting
True, but that sort of spam is easily avoided -- don't watch spammers' videos. It's the spam that lands in my inbox and under my videos that I care about controlling.
The preferences of YouTube's owners are probably different from yours in that they want to make sure anyone who uses it for commercial purposes has to pay for the privilege even if it doesn't bother users.

They made a change to one paragraph. If you hit enter to start a new line you are screwed.

I am at the point of complete disgust I had to post a 4 sentence paragraph without any punctuation on someone's video reply to me It is humiliating

Gah; commenters' grammar is grotesque enough when they *aren't* encouraged to abandon punctuation.
Prepoceros 5 years ago
You'd think their physical resources are an issue, too, though. Do they really want terabytes upon terabytes of unnecessary videos?
DClaudeKatz 5 years ago
I hope this is a bug, it sounds like it might since their contact us is limited too.
