@luv4cookie1 You're joking right?! Shannon and Dom were TOTALLY different. Shannon was definitely a more graceful gymnast and was about clean lines. Dom was a powerful, probably the MOST powerful during that time period and was a well-reknowned (sp?) tumbler. You can't even say she wanted to be Miller because Dom has said time and time again that she'll be known as a powerful tumber and even said in an interview that she "was not graceful one bit," and that she ADMIRED those who were.
well i actually had the pleasure of meeting all of the mag 7 and watching them ... and ive seen dawes in many meets and she has bowed legs yes nothing she could do about it ....and she has been a great leader .... ppl should back off if you can't top what she's doing then why be so harsh in 1994 she won every meet except this one ........
she had the top score of qualifying on beam at 9.837 and scored 9.812 here 4 another strong effort. yet this time a handful of athletes topped her score. why???? i just don't get the politics of this sport something. u have 2 have favor with the judges, be competing at just the right time in a lineup & have the right people make errors just 2 get a gr8 score? whatever happen 2 judge me based on me principles?
She had the top score because others made mistakes. When they didn't make mistakes she wasn't any better and was scored fairly. Can't you see the flexed feet and messy form?

i can't say i agree for several reasons. 1st, review her EFs set from 93 worlds v the winning set from milosovici. 2nd, review her 96 Olympic AA beam set & Miller's higher scored AA beam set. in both cases, you could argue inferior form got her deserving lower scores. but at that level of competition, her difficulty & execution should've been rewarded. she was never the ugliest gymnast out there -- especially going by today's standards. like i said, we'll agree 2 disagree.
go ahead and just say it...u hate Dawes. it's ok, u don't have 2 like her but respect her gymnastics.
u question her difficulty? let's see, she did backhandspring 2 3 layouts. who else did that? phelps and miller who had 2 stop doing it b/c she couldn't get 3 around by 95-96.
her dismount? only gogean even attempted 2 backhandsprings 2 full twisting double & stopped b/c she couldn't do it consistently.
if u like another's style, fine, but ur crazy 4 thinking her set wasn't worldclass.
@htownhomie06 the only reason miller stopped is because she got to tall, and dawes stayed this height for 3 years. And i have never seen gogean do a full in, the only 2 americans doing this dismount where dawes and miller, and they did it both flawelessly
@gymfan82 back than a full in dismount was MAJOR DIFFICULTY, and it still is today! its a G element the most diffiuclt in gymnastics off the balance beam, three layouts were difficult to, and u really need to learn about gymnastics and stop commenting when you are ABSOLUTLEY clueless!
yes i agree,, but i will say she could have won an all-around title had she not made a major mistake at the critical moment,, but i always thought she was bow legged too but thats just her body type... that dismount however is still top notch gymnastics even now in 2010
she is such a miller wannabe! omggggg

What difficulty? She didn't have any more difficulty then anyone else out there for that time. Everyone had a routine out of ten in those days.
She did 3 layouts, a punch front and then the dismount. Even her leaps weren't difficult

Yes she made mistakes and lost AA medals but so did others in those competitions. Dominique would not be on top if everyone performed perfectly.
