To add to my VW Rabbit post. Making .38 cents a mile is crap its only about $8.00 an hour if you make about 10 deliveries in a 7 hour day. I have had conversations with friends that I have delivered to that did tip me, with less cussing but I pretty much said what these gentlemen said to them and they actually stopped ordering all together. I either pissed them off or they saw the light and realized that $17 dollars can buy 2 weeks worth of food if you use it wisely lol and are not to picky.
I drove a 1982 VW Rabbit Diesel, got 42 mpg, and the cost of driving that car over a 50,000 mile time frame averaged out to be about .12 cents a mile in operating costs. I calculated everything from windshield wipers, tires, insurance, inspections, registration, diesel, things that break, oil, everything you spend money on a car to keep it on the road I put into the calculation. I averaged from day to day about .50 to .80 cents a mile. So I was on the worst day making about .38 cents a mile :)
lawl this is why i drive a diesel, i get paid 6 bucks an hr and 1.50 per run, and i make money from that no matter how far the trip is even without tip. As for fellow pizza delivery drivers, you win some you lose some, I had a day where everyone was giving me small change tips, then this motherfucker in a mansion gave me an 25 dollar tip that basically covered the other runs.
I deliver for Pizza Hut and I remember the people that tip nicely and don't tip at all. This one guy always orders wings and gives a $6 tip. Whenever I prepare his wings, I always throw in a few more and give him a few ranch dressings (Which cost $0.50 each). If you tip nicely, we'll hook you up with perks and give you awesome service. If you don't tip, than don't be surprised to see a loogie on your pizza.
Last note, we have a large delivery radius, in the neighborhood of 7 miles. I have actually, after doing the math, paid to take people their food. The tip should be relative to price of food and/or distance. You want to order 9 dollars worth of food 6 miles away and tip 2 bucks? Too bad, that's a 4 dollar minimum in my opinion.
I have only worked at my current spot for a bit I over a year, took it as I work on my journalism major and let me say that people that don't tip are insane. I also notice plenty of non-tippers ordering during the day. You order 50 bucks worth of food, yet you have no job. Squeeze your lard ass out of the door, use your own gas, and get it yourself. I cannot wait until my last day so I can say what o want to you cheap fucks.
I live in the UK, my sister was a delivery driver for Domino's Pizza for a while, they actually paid all her petrol money and then a little extra on top. I'm surprised it's not the same over in freedomland, that sucks.

i just delivered to a nigger...as soon as he opened the door im like NOOOOOOO...so total was 17.90 and I was going to walk away when he stops me and says please i need my change...and i looked at hime with a pissed off face and he gets all scared and says well dont you get delivery charge?and Im like yeah 50 cents and 4 bucks an hour and hes like THATS ALL YOU GET?? and I was like just forget it and walked away...blacks have no shame to there game, how do you have money for catering and not tip

Its saturday december 24th, christmas eve...just got home from deliverying. some guy ordered over 70$ in food and left me 0.00. the 2nd delivery gave me 3.00 on an order over 170.00. thank you society for helping me get through xmas with less than 15.00 for the day. My two toddler daughters appreciate it. I should have stayed in school but now is not the time to dwell on mistakes.

Actually thats not true, you might be given exactly what you need to buy the pizza being company cost however you say all of that in desire of getting a tip but you know if any of the customers see this and then see you they won't tip cause you just acted like a bish about not getting a tip. Not to say you guys/gals don't diserve a tip but if you complain you won't get anything. Like to see you guys give 2-5 dollar tips with what you make btw..oh I doubt you would. =D

@Alterans8 i dont make much but i still tip 2 bucks or more no matter what. i think if someone is gonna order delivery, its cause they have enough to pay for food, delivery charge, and to tip the person who used their gas to bring it to you. cause if gas was free, i wouldnt care about tip at all cause gas is what i use it for at the end of my shift, and what ever is left towards rent.
I drive for Pizza Hut. My job is great. It's not so annoying when people don't tip, unless they have big orders or live really far away. Every minute I'm gone is another minute I'm not back at the store to be next in line to take a delivery. Every tip I get adds to the comfort of having gas and paying my bills.
@Koktar yea i work at pizza hut too it used to be great and I used to net over 2 grand a month, but it has drastically dopped over the last year or so

a Tip is 15-20% i mean you can tip ur waitress 15--20% who walks ur food to the table, but u cant even tip 2.00$ for me driving 14 miles round trip to deliver pizza in a 20mpg car @ 3.80 per gallon fuck do the math on that and thats not even including the fact that there is such a thing as insurance.

Every time I order pizza for delivery, I always make sure I have $5's and $1's so I can add that to the final price and give the driver $5-$7 for tip. TIP your drivers!

If you can afford an extra 1.80 just to have it delivered you can afford to tip at LEAST 2 bucks. My dominos doest even give a full dollar per delivery. If you are broke then why pay 15 to 20 bucks for dinner. Thats what dollar menus and ramen noodles are for. Hell i tip carhops at sonc 2 bucks.

If you can't afford to tip your pizza guys at least 15% of the bill, you don't need to be ordering pizza. You need to be delivering it. The "delivery fee"? About half goes to the company (at Papa John's) and about a dollar goes to the driver. Every time a driver checks out a pizza, his hourly wage drops from minimum wage to a little over $4 per hour, so the "delivery fee" doesn't even bring him back up to minimum wage. He has to keep gas in his vehicle. Tip wisely.
I always tip $5 because any time I get pizza, it's coming right out of what I barely have and it's because I really want a delivery pizza. My family does more tipping than me though but that's because my grandpa has a job still and it's hard for me to find one.

I deliver pizza in Montreal and honestly, if you don't tip well, you'll be the last to get his or her food, your soda can will be shaken not stirred and in the winter, your food might be driven in the trunk, you know where it's cold. Some drivers dont even get minimum wage, I don't. And it's not the boss that tips, it's the customer. I've been tipped at other jobs including in construction for treating a customer well. @MeneerRommel most delivery drivers get 1$ per delivery from their company and minimum wage. tip your drivers, 1$ doesnt cover the gas and the wear and tear there cars.
I always tip my pizza man/woman well. I live out in the country and am grateful that they will deliver here - and you know why they do? Because they get a huge tip and appreciate it and my pizza is always great.
This is how it works,for all you FRUITCAKES that don't tip...for those of you that don't tip ,when you place an order and when your order is ready to be delivered and there are 3 more orders to be delivered at the same time, the delivery driver is going to deliver your food last cause he knows you're an ass that don't tip ..EVEN IF you called first,EVEN if your house is around the block and it takes 2 minutes to deliver your food ,you're still going to get your food last, did you get it now!
I consider 2 dollars the minimum acceptable tip without being rude. Three to four was the average tip I got in SF more than four is generous I think. Take note - a pizza guy never forgets!

They make it out to seem like because they pay you min wage instore you do instore stuff, but the way i put it was the only amount that matters is the numbers at the end of the week. As for non tippers, I've learned to deal with it. Smile and move on, not use a hot bag or stuff drinks in the hot bag, That last ones fun. =D

$5 is always the holy grail of tips..anybody tips me $5 or above I'll bust my ass to get their pizza to them as quickly as possible, and theirs is delivered first if I have other orders to take along with theirs.
I usually tip about 3 or 4 dollars, but lately they've been really slow delivering and forgetting things. It kind of pisses me off when I pay for extra sauce and it isn't there. But seriously that has to be one of the easiest jobs ever.

I delivered for a long time. Sure, some people won't tip, but big deal! It all averages out in the end. I'd make $15-20 per hour after hourly, gas, and tips averaged in, regardless if 2-3 people per day didn't tip. I only let it get to me when it happened repeated times with the same people. Then I'd start dumping my ash tray in their driveway or taking a piss in it. Or putting small pieces of pork product under the cheese if they were Jewish.
No, the delivery fee goes back to the driver in gas reimbursement. There's no such thing as free delivery, anyway. If a place advertises free delivery, you can be certain the delivery fee has been included in the base price. Just a little industry secret.

I've been a delivery driver. For a sub shop and a pizza place. I've gotten good tips and no tips.
The cost of gas alone for doing this job makes it an expensive job to have.
When I've ordered pizza I always make sure to tip at least $10.00. Since I've been on the delivery end and know what it cost all the way around, that's what I tip.
You tip a waitress to walk from the kitchen to your table, but not a driver to drive to your house?? that's crazy. a delivery charge is NOT a tip, tip your drivers. I especially like the parents who send their kids to the door to get the pizza because they know they aren't leaving a tip..cheap ass cowards!

I have taken Pizza delivery drivers to court for charging me full price when I had a coupon. judge was not happy with the delivery driver I won a $2,500.00 with punitive damages. verdict against the Delivery Driver for committing Fraud against me. Driver decided he was not going to pay the judgment I am now garnishing his paycheck, tax returns, I have a lien on his car. until the total is paid back to me. The judge referred the driver to the local District attorneys office for fraud.charges

most Pizza places charges $5.00 Delivery charge. I consider that the tip. I will not tip for some one doing their job unless it is pouring out rain or a storm then i will give$3-$5.00 but otherwise they do not desivee it. and yes I had Delivery drivers fired for not delivering or short changing me as that is against the law.
If there's a $5.00 delivery charge, then its because you live in a rich area, by my guess. The delivery charge is never for the driver, it's overhead for the store. People commonly make this mistake or use it as an excuse not to tip us. You should think again, we remember the people who stiff us and we do not forgive after a 2nd offense. NEVER screw with people who make your food, especially the man who works for min. wage and uses his own car to deliver a meal to your door.
they say insurance and milage or pay per order some stores charge 1.00-5 my parents pizza store avrages a .90 pay out to driver for milage and charges 1.00 for delivery. and one store i worked in pays around .80-.95 depending on gas prices and charged 1.50 but does .95 pay for gas no it does not we dip into tips and paychecks to pay gas does .95 pay for new brakes tiers and other parts never. in one store i worked in we were responsiable for any money and loss if robed is this fair hell no

I deliver for a mom and pop pizza shop. Awesome zzzaa. I get to keep all my tips and I dont have a wage. YOu make good money there. but you still have to deal with asshole people that dont tip. Someone has to do it right (including me). PIzza delivery drivers have the 3rd most dangerous jobs in the country according to the US goverment. So think again. I dont care how many years you have been doing it. It's not as easy as you think.

Actually thats not true, you might be given exactly what you need to buy the pizza being company cost however you say all of that in desire of getting a tip but you know if any of the customers see this and then see you they won't tip cause you just acted like a bish about not getting a tip. I drive for Pizza Hut. My job is great. It's not so annoying when people don't tip, unless they have big orders or live really far away. Every minute I'm gone is another minute I'm not back at the store to be next in line to take a delivery. Every tip I get adds to the comfort of having gas and paying my bills.

If you can't afford to tip your pizza guys at least 15% of the bill, you don't need to be ordering pizza. You need to be delivering it. The "delivery fee"? About half goes to the company (at Papa John's) and about a dollar goes to the driver. Every time a driver checks out a pizza, his hourly wage drops from minimum wage to a little over $4 per hour, so the "delivery fee" doesn't even bring him back up to minimum wage. He has to keep gas in his vehicle. Tip wisely.

Some drivers dont even get minimum wage, I don't. And it's not the boss that tips, it's the customer. I've been tipped at other jobs including in construction for treating a customer well. Tip the driver so he can at least fix his goddamn car when it breaks down so he can still go to work. $2 doesn't do shit even if you buy parts yourself.

I delivered for a long time. Sure, some people won't tip, but big deal! It all averages out in the end. I'd make $15-20 per hour after hourly, gas, and tips averaged in, regardless if 2-3 people per day didn't tip. I only let it get to me when it happened repeated times with the same people. Then I'd start dumping my ash tray in their driveway or taking a piss in it. Or putting small pieces of pork product under the cheese if they were Jewish.

No, the delivery fee goes back to the driver in gas reimbursement. There's no such thing as free delivery, anyway. If a place advertises free delivery, you can be certain the delivery fee has been included in the base price. Just a little industry secret.

I've been a delivery driver. For a sub shop and a pizza place. I've gotten good tips and no tips.
The cost of gas alone for doing this job makes it an expensive job to have.
When I've ordered pizza I always make sure to tip at least $10.00. Since I've been on the delivery end and know what it cost all the way around, that's what I tip.
If I can't tip that much, I don't order delivery.

I have taken Pizza delivery drivers to court for charging me full price when I had a coupon. judge was not happy with the delivery driver I won a $2,500.00 with punitive damages. verdict against the Delivery Driver for committing Fraud against me. Driver decided he was not going to pay the judgment I am now garnishing his paycheck, tax returns, I have a lien on his car. until the total is paid back to me. The judge referred the driver to the local District attorneys office for fraud.charges

If there's a $5.00 delivery charge, then its because you live in a rich area, by my guess. The delivery charge is never for the driver, it's overhead for the store. People commonly make this mistake or use it as an excuse not to tip us. You should think again, we remember the people who stiff us and we do not forgive after a 2nd offense. NEVER screw with people who make your food, especially the man who works for min. wage and uses his own car to deliver a meal to your door.

if you dont tip, save the driver gas and time by picking it up yourself. if you dont tip a driver you truly do have a cold black heart. dont say you cant afford a tip...if you cant afford the tip maybe you should be buying groceries with what little money you have instead of buying a pizza that last 1 night. THINK PEOPLE.

people that don't tip pizza delivery people are rotten...we tip waitors and waitresses obscene amounts of money for walking to our table about 4 times...they aren't using their own fuel, and getting crappy directions, and arriving late...man oh man...I like to tip about 20% to delivery guys because damn, I couldn't handle working with those conditions!!!

If you cannot afford to tip just go and pick the shit up. If you want the delivery service you must fucking tip. If not do a carry out order.

I deliver for a mom and pop pizza shop. Awesome zzzaa. I get to keep all my tips and I dont have a wage. YOu make good money there. but you still have to deal with asshole people that dont tip. Thats my first pet peeve. My other one is is when your delivering at night and the bastards dont have the lights on for you so that you can see the dam address. And then they bitch at you because you had to drive all over fucking hell to find it. And of course you try to call them and no answer.

Ive been in the pizza business for 14 years. you have to take the good with the bad. If you dont like it then find a new job! What do you expect from restaurant work! Go back to school!

Someone has to do it right (including me). PIzza delivery drivers have the 3rd most dangerous jobs in the country according to the US goverment. So think again. I dont care how many years you have been doing it. It's not as easy as you think.

While I agree with what he's saying in general, people not tipping is part of the game. I made about 10 thousand last year in tips and I got stiffed at least once a night.
Also, there is a guy at our pizza place that's always a dick to people that don't tip him and we make fun of him because most of those people tip the rest of us. It works both ways guys.

When i delivered i never messed with peoples food if they didnt tip. Those who didnt tip had a longer wait than those who did though. Even somebody who tipped called and ordered after somebody who doesnt, guess who is getting there pizza first?
