  • is there any instances that these monks utter a single word? like when they are in their monastary? :)

  • For my schools Christmas concert my class did that, I was Lu. We were silent knights cuz my music teacher thought it was funny "Silent knight (nite the song)" no1 else understood it but anyway we all dressed up as knights and it was a success. :D

  • 2:16 - the hands.......... hilarious! Absolutely fabulous, just wish I could orchestrate this at our church......would bring the house down!

  • as you can see, some of the lost souls that come to visit here

  • sounds like halo music.

  • Absolutely funny

  • The guy who jumps makes me laugh

  • 1:46 shortcut

  • This is babtists????? whats????

  • @TRIPLEBASS1972

Are you serious? Just pause it and write yourself.

  • lol the guy with the eth bit is funny when he holds it upside down and sideways

  • this is funny

  • @J0o0shlikesPandaz

you do realize that without the belief in theGod, these guys wouldn't be doing this in the first place?

  • hahaha I love the short guy that jumps....hahaha

  • they mess up too much

  • Jank copiers

  • @Xtr33m3TermiNatOr If I was questioning you for a murder after the statement you just made you would be going downtown. You state the song is not sacred. and then you go straight to bashing the Holy Roman Catholic Church. Peter upon his rock you shall build my church; good reason for tradition. If I can get you in front of the first Pope. Would you let him bless you my son.

  • This is the zenith of one of the rarest commodities on earth: respectful satire. The soaring majesty of the Chorus Hallelujah combined with the self deprecating efforts of the silent monk "singers" captivates like few other seasonal comedies. I say "BRAVO!" One can almost feel the host of heaven smiling on this delightful production.

  • I must have watched this at least 3 times now and I think it's brilliant. The fact that the 'monks' ' performance isn't perfect just shows what an incredibly difficult thing this must have been to get right (and don't you just love the little one second from R who jumps in the air for the high notes!) In UK this would either be on the Morecambe and Wise show in its heyday - or at a Royal Command Performance. Congrats to all who took part!

  • Fantanstic....but what's with the chicken dance?

  • thank you Sawmill that helps. May I now ask you why it is said that Christ suffered and die for our sins. I understand that his suffering is a forerunner of our suffering. But I struggle withe the concept.

  • What does omnipotent mean?

  • @Picadors65 Omnipotent means God possesses all power. He is able to bring into being ANYTHING that He has decided to.....with or without the use of any means. Genesis 18:14; Job 42:2; Jeremiah 32:27

Omniscient means God knows all. He has a perfect knowledge of everything past, present or future. Job 37:16; Psalm 139:1-6 and 13-16.

Omnipresent means God is present everywhere. In all the universe, at all times, in the totality of His character. Proverbs 15:3; Jeremiah 23:23-24.

  • Great team work!! And to anyone that feels it may be insulting ~ Please remember God CREATED US WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR

So enjoy it =•D they got HIS message out!

  • 2:46 short kid has blue jeans and last guy sign fail

  • ya i didnt catch that 5:15 chicken dance till the second look lol?????

  • funny!!!!!!!!!!!<3 :)

  • handel would be so proud. LOL!

  • It's OK but I think there is a hidden agenda. The comments give it away. I don't think people are so dumbed down to think this skit is soo great.

  • obviously they can talk. at 5:15 they are laughing over one of them said

  • Hey, I really enjoyed your video. 5 Starred it, if you get time please check out my Korean version Hallelujah Silent Chorus ("Hallelujah by Silent Black Masks"). Thanks a lot!

  • this is the best acapella group.

  • 5:15 and the back row, i think we missed a joke...

  • jump little guy jump!!!!!this is sooooooo funny!!!!!!

  • This was hilarious. Thanks for posting it!

  • @Handstripped---you're mistaken---there are not many in the US, but they do exist. Thre are more Lutheran monastic orders in Europe. Trust me--i served as a Lutheran pastor for almost 15 years.

  • Lutherans DO NOT have Monastic orders.

  • "God is a comedian playing to an audience that is afraid to laugh" - Voltaire

Thumbs up for those who got a laugh out of this! Great job!

  • I like the little guy 2nd from the right having to jump up and down. They just look like they are having too much fun. LOL.

  • no good Monk would be caught in a baptist church

  • @Zatvol2 way to just say what the comments above did.

  • haha i love this

  • Lutherans also have monastic orders,,,

  • love it

  • CLAPS CLAPS CLAPS!

  • How did they even plan that out if they're silent?

  • @RoseJordan23 Well, seeing as how they wrote out the words to "Hallelujah" on little yellow cards, one may assume that they availed themselves of written communication.

  • watch the one from "st. francis de la sissies" it's a more professional one, but still this one's nice ;-)

  • The only Christian faiths with Monastic orders are Catholics and Orthodox. And other Eastern strains.

  • @Childinfaith Lutherans also have monastic orders

  • OK, it's not Christmas but this is funny anytime of the year!

  • good job!!!!!

  • woooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • at 5:15, did they start doing the chicken dance? And I love this vid! it's so funny!!!

  • @PointeDancer13 wow! I didn't notice that until I read your comment and went back and saw it! lol!

  • GOD bless you all lol

  • how called the song a the start? :D

  • so awesome guys! love it!!! ;)!

  • heey leelan, its time to go!

  • that was pure talent.....

  • This is hysterical!! I Love it!! :)

  • one of the best things I've seen in a long time!!!!

  • whats the name of the song at 0:33 ? <3

  • 2:46 epic fail xDD

  • wow they're really good(:

  • What's the name of the hymn playing at the beginning of this song?

  • Kyrie Eleison... Part of the traditional Latin Mass

  • nice to see a church allowing itself to be creative and funny!

  • I bet God got a good laugh out of this...I sure did! And if you can't laugh at your own religion, you shouldn't practice it!!!

    3 cheers for the monks!

  • @PeteDriver530 HIP HIP HOORAY HIP HIP HOORAY HIP HIP HOORAY lol

  • @PeteDriver530

    Spot on!

  • @PeteDriver530 It's the difference between us and those islamists morons. ciao

  • @PeteDriver530 You think! You Hope!

  • @PeteDriver530

Except that they're not laughing at their own religion. There are no Baptist monks. The Baptists here are poking fun at Catholic monks and Catholic asceticism. I still really enjoyed it, especially at the beginning and with the little jumping guy - well done with the exception of a few mistakes here and there. Maybe it's just a good sign that things are getting more friendly between Baptists and Catholics than they were in decades past. :-)

  • Obviously jenniferrut is baptist...if I had to guess...Southern Baptist. I put no stock in religion, but Christianity isn't about "Religion."

  • I don't see how this is offensive, and as a die hard Christian, I see where you could be concerned about disrespect. I think that they have as much right to express themselves as the rest of us even though they have taken a vow of silence. If that doesn't help, maybe you could see it like subtitles...I didn't know the words until now : )

  • I concur with lamoncha--what is the piece being sung in the first minute and a half? I recognize it, but can't remember the title.

    The other "monks" are hysterical!

  • wow, it's not easy

it must take a long time to practice

    I LOVE IT ^^

  • Sorry, I don't get it. This doesn't belong in a church-obviously whomever came up with it, was making fun of the church!

I am a worship leader and I don't find this amusing and I'm a pretty easy going person. I would NEVER have my choir do this. I'm shaking my head in disbelief

  • Why?

  • I don't think it's making fun of the church at all. I'm a Christian, and not offended in the least. There is nothing wrong with having something entertaining within the church. I've seen two other videos of people doing the same thing. How on earth is having words painted on a board offensive to God? I highly doubt he minds. He loves to see us enjoying His word. This is just a different way to do that.

  • Oh come on! - Get over yourself!

  • Oh, get a life, sonny. This is just fun - it's not an excuse for yet more interfaith sniping. George Fridrik (and yes, that is the correct spelling) would certainly have approved.

  • Baptists love to reject and disrespect their fellow Chrisian brothers and sisters, (I have seen it first hand) , and this is such an example, just read the beginning! They don't even believe Catholics can be saved! That's for God alone. "Judge not lest you be judged".

  • This is amazing! My school SANG this song. It was cool and beautiful. But this is just genius!

  • Baptists have a sense of humor? I guess it's allowed only when making fun of other Christians.

  • @MitcheruUSA62 We have a sense of humor we just got to get the corn kob out of our butts but I do agree!

  • 0:00 - 1:44 whats the name of taht ? sry for my bad english :P

  • It cracks me up that so many people seem to believe these are really "monks". No Baptist Church would ever in a million years have actual monks -- and if you look carefully, some of the "monks" have boobs, and the jumper looks to be a teenager. This is just an entertaining and creative performance of the Hallelujah chorus -- the build-up story of the "monks" just makes the actual performance that much more unexpected and delightful. Be calm, peeps! :)

  • @doritos72 ....yes, "Monks" = Catholics, and Baptists aren't about to let a gaggle of Catholics into their church to entertain.

  • It is a humorous video. Period! All the rants about this meaning and that meaning from the Bible are just that, rants. Live a good life, laugh a lot, cry when you must, forgive when you should, forget when you can, work hard, help others and don't sweat the small stuff. Merry Christmas to all.

  • To help the discussion, some words on spelling:

"your all off the subject..." should be "you're all off the subject"

"Your" is not the same as "you are" or "you're."

  • Thank God someone else knows that! I HATE when people write "your" instead of "you're."

  • I hate when people capitalize an entire word just for the fuck of it. :D

  • Correct my friend, well said, I bid you good day!

  • your all off the subject...the subject is the video performance, which I thought is very creative and enjoyment. All your chat is taking you into a discussion other than the performance....

God certainly does have a sense of humor. He's not a dour Being....He certainly wants us to enjoy ALL facets of creations....This is lighthearted praise.

  • Gee Mimi7605 God must have a sense of humor, he made you didn't he? As it says in the book of Jerhemy Chapter 6 Verse 32 "God has more important things to worry about than professional athletes and commenters on Youtube"

  • Which bible has the book of Jerhemy?

  • This was not perfect, by any means. The "Ha le lu jah" monks were not very well rehearsed for a public performance. Clever, yes. Polished, no.

  • Comment removed

  • Really? You seem a bit mislead. While i would agree that the common belief about the church is that we hate those who are homosexual, it is entirely due to those who are delusional in their beliefs. The Bible says to love the sinner, hate the sin. It is not about hating anyone, it is to love everyone: gay or straight. It is true that this sin of hate has infected the church, run rampant really, but know that it is not the way of true Christians, to love as Christ has loved us, is.

  • Wish I knew who came up with this first. Very clever idea! Several versions posted on youtube.

  • That was very cute. A lot of work for a few minutes of enjoyment, but I guess that's what makes it more valuable... the realization of how much time and effort went into it so we might have a few minutes to be entertained, and maybe think a little.

  • Seriously we're going to argue when this is simply adorable and these people put forth all of this hard work???

  • it makes me laugh at how on just about every christian video on you tube has some kind of argument on the comments! it's ridiculous

  • Watching this was a big waste of time.

  • The monks are following Jesus, who rejected the Old Testament.

In Mark10/Matt19, Jesus rejects the Old Testament (OT) teaching on divorce (divorce is an abomination and remarriage adultery).

OT: "Make a joyful noise unto the lord"

NT: the appointed time has grown short...let even those who have wives be as though they had none... The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord... but the married man is anxious about the affairs of the world...and his interests are divided." Paul

  • Paul is talkinga bout the men who are obsessed with their wives and aren't worshiping God. He's saying that God should be first in your heart and then anything that is connected to the earth. he isn't say, "dudes, go commit adultery becuase i said it's okay." Paul says that it is better for a man to stay unmarried and follow God then to get married and worship things of this world.

  • Paul is telling unmarried people not to marry PERIOD. Paul never says that only people made materialistic by marriage should avoid it.

"It is good for a man not to marry...If you are unmarried, do not look for a wife. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world"

The only reason to marry is to avoid fornication. Paul says the 2nd coming of Jesus is close at hand, and marriage distracts us from God.

  • Excuse me? Have you not read what Jesus said about the Old Testament? Take another look at Matt 5:17-20. The only "bible" that existed in his day was the Hebrew scriptures (OT).

He also said of the Old Testament; "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." (John 5:39) Why make an issue out of this anyway?

Sorry for the off topic chatter, folks. I thought the video was really creative and a joy to watch.

  • In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus praises the OT ("I come not to usurp the law but to fulfill it") and then critiques the OT by...

    1. Rejecting Moses on divorce

    2. Rejecting the completeness of the 613 Mitzvahs, and adding "whoever is angry at his brother is liable to judgment" (which goes much farther than the OT law).

    3. Rejecting OT violence ("turn the other cheek")

    4. Rejecting the OT focus on the Jewish people: "Be kind to all peoples; Even the Gentiles are kind to their own group"

  • In Matt 5, Jesus says: "You have heard it said [in the Old Testament], 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'

    39. "But, I am telling you [that the Old Testament is wrong], Do not rise up against evil"

The point I am making is that the critique that the Baptist video gives of the monks comes from the Old Testament. The monks are using St Paul 1 Corinthians 7:29-31 from the New Testament to justify their lifestyle. Sometimes NT trumps OT. This is why, contrary to OT, we can eat bacon.

  • Wow! Posters having no sense of humor.

I'm glad to see that the pious tradition of "judgementalism" is alive and well on YouTube!

Your comment shows an obvious lack of humor or, for that matter, basic intelligence.

  • Lack of basic intelligence?

How about spelling judgmentalism correctly before accusing me of lacking intelligence. Or did you just think you were making up a fancy new word?

Cute how you copied the format of my post and everything too. Try a little harder next time, will you?

  • Actually judgmentalism (or judgementalism) was a "fancy new word" I was making up for the humor. Look it up and you will find that it does not exist.

Brilliant comeback but it's hard to correct someone on the spelling of a word that does not exist.

Besides, even if I was incorrect about the word, that does not change my original point.

    I rest my case.

  • Nice try.

Judgmentalism is a term used in, among other things, New Testament theology. Most prominently in reference to a portion of the Sermon on the Mount (the discourse on judgmentalism).

Even a Google search would have told you that.

I thought I told you to try harder.

  • Youre right. I didn't put forth much effort in my retort. And yet you have done nothing other than prove my point by focusing on one word.

Even if I am wrong about the word, nothing else changes. You have actually made my point stronger by your determination to prove me wrong.

Even the most educated of us can lack basic intelligence and you demonstrated a lack of that by criticizing something as innocuous as this video.

You're trying too hard. Try Decaf.

  • I'm sure you're correct; it was the espresso that caused me to believe that intelligence was best demonstrated by such trifling things as spelling, vocabulary and engagement with intellectual concepts.

There really is a different kind of intelligence out there, demonstrated by people like you who don't care about these trivialities.

  • Thanks for making my point. I will post my final post now so that you may have the last word. (Hopefully that word will exist in the dictionary)

Since we could go at this all day and I have more important things to do with my time, I will leave you to your pseudo-intellectual pursuits of superiority.

Feel good about yourself. You obviously have more free time than I.

As to the original reason I replied to your first post, try to lighten up and enjoy life without attacking others creativity.

  • my grandparents told me to watch this, and i was like ugh, but then i saw it and i thought that it was real funny!

  • LOVE IT!!!!! God invented humor and creativity and I am THRILLED that this youth group used it the right way, to praise Him.

  • I doubt these are real monks, maybe it's because a few either look too young, have breasts, or rolled up blue jeans. lol My guess is a very talented youth group.

  • I liked the back row doing the chicken dance at the end!

  • At least one of those monks has breasts.

  • Epic.

I am very pleased with this. Easily one of the funniest things I've ever seen done at a church. I actually emailed it to MY pastor asking if we could do something this funny here. LOL

  • lololololololololololol

  • Jump little guy, jump~!

That was great. I lol'd hard at the chicken dance in the background.

  • Brilliant! Hahaha! (The jumping monk had me in hysterics!)

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5:16 the chicken dance! at the back

  • Humor is of God. Laugh a little. This is good stuff.

  • I see nothing irreverent about this video. It seems good fun. I believe Christ and his disciples probably enjoyed a good laugh during their time here. Good clean fun is just that. Good...clean & fun.

  • I love the guy jumping! hahaha

  • I thought that video was funny. Definitely a keeper for me.

  • What's got your knickers in a knot

    cheesemonkey1990?

  • its harmless fun, i doubt they had any intention of insulting them. and besides, if you can't laugh at yourself what's the fun in being different?

    two thumbs up for me!

  • Maybe... It is a bit funny, and you are right, we do have to be able to laugh at ourselves! I have since deleted my original comment because I realized I over reacted! I have a serious problem when I think people are either making fun of Catholics or are anti Catholic protestants, which I can tell you are not, or you would have told me I was going to hell by now! :)

  • teh internetz = serius bidness

  • i love this video

  • that is sooo cool! :)

  • Yeah, but can they do "Louie, Louie"? (OK, Elena, it's time to go!)

  • I find it highly ironic there are hooded, superstitious "monks" in a Baptist church.

    Great job!

  • 3:56

  • haha i have to sing this song for chorus and whenever we do i think of this video and try so hard not to laugh or do the chicken dance xDD

  • wow the random chicken dance was funny

  • This is brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing! : )

  • lol i love the chicken dance!!!(watch the halelujah people.they do it near the end!!)

  • HAha

    awesome

  • I can't breath!!

  • neither can I

  • this is so funny i love it i like the short one who has to jump

  • omw, wow...crack me up. VERY creative...I was cracking up so bad at the beginning. go silent monks! ;]
