I'm sending out a shout out to baakal01, I agree. For anyone watching this clip who's skeptical, I hated this movie the first time I saw it, but it grew on me fast and now it's one of my favorites. Go see it again!
I'm just gonna accept my loneliness, and I'm gonna go to an even darker place of nothingness, from an even farther more extreme nothingness on my own!
This is my favorite movie! Absolutely brilliant. You really have to watch it two or three times to really begin to catch all the little nuances of the movie.
one of the reasons why this movie is brilliant and original: the performance by Mark Wahlberg here. it was very refreshing to see. Haha, the second is the scene where Jude Law talks of Phil Jackson and his favorite book.
I love it soo much but it's always made me feel a bit wierd. The characters are just so ludicrous and completely OTT it just gives the film this feeling that its completely unreal.

This...Movie...Sucks....ass... Oh my God I didn't believe my friends when they said it sucked so bad but WOW.... FUCKING... WOW.... No wonder this movie tanked at the box office.
i got to this vid by watching a vid about existentialism that was sent to me. the vid showed some seens from this movie, and i was sure i had seen that movie, so i checked what it was, and i watched this scene. now i remember what the movie was. awesome movie. i didnt remember that it was this good.
what a great scene. a family of christian fascists and two socialist existentialists.
God damn the dad is such a dick! " Steven i am so dissapointed in you!" jeese lighten up. But serioulsy this is the best scene in the movie. and the daughter is being so rude "why is he closing his eyes like that?!" I just seem to have a problem with these certain people. Great movie though. I fyou haven;t seen it i recommend that you do.
my favourite part: when the mother is thinking they are perfect because they 'took a Sudanese refugee into their home' and marky mark says 'but how did sudan happen ma'am?' That is so right... Our transnational cooperations supported by colonial idealizations are impacting developing countries everyday ; foreign investments! I hope people really sit and think about how they are impacting
One of the greatest scenes ever. It nails the mindless American Christian family perfectly. The "We don't have to ask those kinds of questions do we mom?" question by the girl is followed by a number of questions. She knows nothing because the parents don't allow questions. The parents never asked any their entire lives. Why start now when we are in the middle of a war, running out of oil, and destroying the planet?
Running out of oil, according to who, the people selling it so they can charge whatever they want. Did you know that the Bush family made their fortune through oil in texas, they were partners with the Bin Laden family. John Kerry and George Bush are cousins. Look it up man, this corrupt fuckin country
I was an extra in this movie, in the scene with the kids (I was going into 8th grade). I am chasing my younger brother (the shorter one) around. I hung out with the kid with the fake mustache and beard on set. I didnt understand the beard back then even but I think we were all trying to play around.. I dunno. Costumes let me keep my shorts but I got a new shirt and new socks and some coin case to wear from my neck. I look like a total dork in this scene lol.. I'm a freshman in college now
This scene absolutely nailed the hidden condescension and patronizing attitude that so many middle-class people in America have towards new immigrants. Notice how the kids gleefully recount the horrors that the Sudanese man has endured like it's nothing more than a fun anecdote to tell. It is clear that he is nothing more than a strange new toy whose job is to entertain his masters with his stories that seem weird and crazy to them, and toe their line in exchange for food and shelter.
ever notice the little kid with the mustache by the basketball hoop? This movie's full of these little incidents, i love them all and i love this movie, i highly recommend watching it high
