  • Shiva Lingams appear in two main shapes:the oval represents the Hiranya-Garbha (cosmic egg), the universe in its pre-creation state; and the shaft represents the pillar of fire, again a symbol of the formless but dynamic source of reality. The obsession with seeing phalluses in the Lingam comes from dirty minds. Hindus do not see in it a mans penis but a symbol of God and His creative potential. We should let Hindus tell us what they believe, not tell them what they believe.
