My 10 month old seems to go through little growth spurts. Not sure what age they stop, but she is a lot bigger than my 2 year old who only weighs around 27 lbs, she is already close to 45 lbs. This is a breed that varies a lot in size, from what I am told.
@Stalemate223 How tall is she and how much does she weigh? My Border Collie is a female, almost 1 year old. She weighs 38.5 lbs and she is 21.5 inches tall.
Anything between 25-50 pounds is normal for a Border Collie, and 18-22 inches tall.

We've had flooding so could be contact contamination, his mouth seems red & he's heavy, yet has been on meager diet for months w/little reduction... He's not a lively BC I'm used too, so am worried... Only had him since Jan & adore him.
They are a great breed, are thyroid problems common @ this age??

My border collie takes epileptic fits and he's such a brave lad, he never lets it get him down. He's now 5 and the fits have reduced a great deal, he now only takes maybe one every 3 months and they're not too severe.
I have a disability myself and my dog is my best friend, of that there's no doubt.

How much time do you spend with them per day? I mean time where they are receiving full attention. Do you leave them alone for a certain number of hours each day?
Generally, almost 95% of the time, I can take them on site with me or into the office. The idea behind having three though was that because that's not possible every time I'm in the field they can keep each other company. We also have great neighbours, one of whom doesn't work so they come in and play with them while I'm out of the house.

I love Border Collies. Have one myself, 1 yr old and a darling! I would reccomend anyone to get one, as long as they can give it lots of excersise and fun and games. These are not for lazy owners. They need lot sof affection and country walks to keep them happy! Don't get one just because they're cute, think about the future...

Absolutely. Contrary to popular belief you can teach an old dog new tricks (not that 5 years is old).
I know someone who managed to teach up a geriatric (10+ year) old poodle mix to do some tricks.
I guarantee you that your 5 year old border will be trainable. Just give him time to adjust to his new home and also make sure you read up on how to work with borders. They often need more precise instruction than other breeds of dog.
yes deffinatly u will its just a lot better to teach them when they are younger they will be more in tune with the various commands u teach him or her because they will have lived with hearing the commands, just give ur dog patience love and lots of attention he will come round in the end.
i just got a border collie puppy about 5 days ago. he's almost all white with a little bit of red/brown on his face, body, and tail. he's a little over 3 months old. anyway he's already one of the smartest, most well trained dogs i've ever seen. border collies are brilliant, and pretty bitchin looking too.

I have two Borders and have had BC's the vast majority of my life. Nothing even comes close to the intelligence, loyalty and relationship with a BC. They are truly amazing.
I have owned BC's in the past, they are so easy to train, love kids,and one of the easiest dogs to look after. I now have a giant alaskan malamute-not so easy to train- lots of hard work. I miss my BC every time I train my mal.

You don't have to BUY a dog, we got our gorgeous border collie from the local Animal Refuge, there are so many lovely dogs who are abandoned and all they want is a good home, so why pay a fortune for a pup???

They CAN get allergic reactions, also occasional thyroid or pituitary problems.
Does he pant lots? Has he been sick to his stomach?
Check (Google) "Cushings Disease" and see if any of these look familiar.

i love em,they r so smart,and sweet, my mom grew up with 2, a girl, who some jerk shot, and a male that was soo pertective of her, like i said in the respose 2 1958wasagreatyear. i have been lookin at this 1 female collie, she is $250, and i want her so bad,but i'm not sure that my parents r gonna b able 2 get her, they r in a tight spot with money right now.

You don't have to BUY a dog, we got our gorgeous border collie from the local Animal Refuge, there are so many lovely dogs who are abandoned and all they want is a good home, so why pay a fortune for a pup???

no, she didnt have any in there, there r some collies that r colored up like that, my mom had 1 growing up, she said he was so protective of her, and he wouldnt let some 1 within 3 feet b close 2 her

This is a wonderful video with beautiful pictures - Border Collies are so awsome. I just lost my first BC who was 17 yrs. old. I still have a four year old. Her intelligence is amazing. I could never have another breed of dog.

I'm 27 and have only had a dog once as a youngin' but deeply feel them. Especially Collies and within 40 secs you had me at me at "Helloe" if you can understand that comically!
