i think this was one of her modified memories- i think mr. hoffman was most likely full out molesting diana, but as jennifer is recalling it, she's seeing a toned down version. and that's also why the other characters do not acknowledge her until mr. hoffman leaves- because most likely jennifer as a child, was hiding in the room along with meg and eleanor, but walked out early. poor clara and poor diana. . .

@AyameAsakura well, this is just my theory- but from my understanding, jennifer is reliving her memories as a child through a psychosis attack. she follows 'joshua', a figment of her imagination, to the run down orphanage and then is experiencing a psychosis 'dream' of sorts, which is why a lot of the insane things you see and forms of torture sometimes seem altered or watered down. it also explains the merging of the airship (where her parents died) and the orphanage.

@AyameAsakura also, look at the scene. jennifer is standing clear in the middle of the room, watching this take place. you see for a second that hoffman looks away before he exits, as if some one made a sound from a hiding place. and after he leaves, little jennifer steps out, only to be found by diana.

in the last chapter, you can pretty much find every room in the 'true' orphanage. there are many places to hide besides behind an aquarium (a wardrobe for instance?)

.........The game is a realy about Jennifer returning to this house by conicidence, and remebering her childhood, all the Rule Of Rose and Imps were a hallucination, thatz why Jennifer couldn't ever stop them from torturing her.
