There's a fair bit of info about that on the Built Environment website and there are Utzon talks about various aspects of architecture. Have a scout around in the UNSW channel.
BUDDY THIs made me interested in studying architecture aLong with other stuff,i have to retake design 1 cause i FAILED,even working all the day i cant get done what the teachers tell me to do,its so fucking annoying,i hope i can get this through, even worst my parents dont know i failed in that subject, its the worst of all,if you fail once you dont have the chance to recover like in the other subjects
building at the very beginning) is a really neat building, and was designed with each floor having a different color scheme to strike a different emotional theme on every floor.
@Strang3rDanger its good if u've some drawing skills...it can help...but even if u aren't ...it doesn't matter ... u needs skills to get ur point across ...for representation..be it drawing or computer or whatever...
It's interesting, good powers of observation and an understanding of geometry are needed in architecture - if you have those abilities now, I would bet that you can draw well enough already. Most any skill can be improved w/ study & practice.
jus a question to those architecture undergrad or post grads out there.. the calculations for the structural part, is differentiation and integration etc. involved ?
I am studying undergraduate. there are some structural subjects but they dont have a tough maths it is just rules and using simple methods .. but the use of differentiation and integration is rare
Brhyetoo, thanks for the reply. I take it that you made it through school in a similar timeframe and level of success as mercuryflash11. That's a great achievement. Congratulations! You have an amazing intellect & self control.
I just did an all-nighter on a job because my time management skills include watching a bit of telly, then some YouTube, then open the drawing, read some e-mail...
You get the idea. : } I think I'm going to bed now! Hahah
hi guys out there! I would like to know if somebody knows about a martial arts school (Academy) that has been recently built, I would like some advices snce I have an assingment in my school about designing a martial arts school. google is not a good answer at all. xD
Im in year 10 and im seriously considering architecture for my future profession but i don't know any architects and i dont have any one to ask questions!! If you guys could help me out i'd really appreciate it.
1) What subjects should i take for my HSC that will be useful for the actual degree?
2) Is it a mathematical degree? (I don't mind maths and i luv art and design! I figured this would be heavily an engineering degree, is it?)
I'm in first year architecture at UNSW so here's my opinion:
1) Design + Tech: extra UAI points towards this degree with HSC Plus (if you do well). I did Yr9-11 D+T; the skills you take with you are the development of your 'process' and 'folio presentation'.
Art: there is a LOT of drawing involved in architecture, but you don't need to do HSC Art; you can draw anytime you want! It helps to be able to express what is in your head with a pen.
I am a post grad architecture student here under the new 3 plus 2 program.
1. I am an international student so I can't say.
2. first year to second year is number crunching driven. You don't need to be a rocket scientest but you need a lot of time to learn the calculations. Trusses are not fun!!!!!
3. This university is really good. Once you graduate here, you can be a computer science architect, interior, or just an architect.
I wish I could write more.... so send me a message.
thanks, that actually helps heaps!! its really nice 2 hear from sum1 whoose actually doing the degree. I forgot 2 ask the most important question though, do you like it? XD
I love the degree. Think of it as American idol on extreme mode. You have 150 students, 50 to 70 graduate. 10 become licenced registered architects. But your imagination is your limitation. 3rd year to final year is tough. You better learn to have thick skin or the tutors will eat you. Any idea is good but an excellent idea has supporting information.
learn auto cad, revit, or some software. it is needed for surival here.
wow, im all up for the challenge, why the low success rate though? Does the diffuculty of the degree force people to drop out? -sorry about all the questions, your great to talk 2
I love how they 'forgot' to mention that if you study architecture you will spend all night in the studio and have to pull several all nighters before crits.
Why not drop them a line and ask. beenquiries@unsw.edu.au

So, this is what I've taken away from the video:
1) You do the same five years of study that should give you a bachelor's degree, but you get a master's instead! Whoo-hoo!
2) You don't need to memorize "facts" or take pesky "tests".
3) You get to play video games, like Unreal Tournament and Half-Life 2!
4) You can create a blue-glowing cube, which is just like a box, but it glows! Now that's architecture!
It looks like I won't have to work hard! Where do I sign up?!
