The only thing I love about the Kelvin (except for the fact that it's prime universe until the battle in the opening of the Star Trek movie) is the phaser turrets. Those make a hulluva lot more sense than traditional phasers ever will.

I never could wrap my mind around "shields". {no puns intended} If they don't allow photon torpedoes and phasers threw the shields, than how do they get launched out??? They can't launch a shuttle threw the shields, but they launch torpedoes. They can't beam any one on board with the shields up, but they can fire their phasers. How does that work???????

If you know the frequency the shields are at you can fire through them. The Enterprise-D was destroyed when the Klingon's managed to find her shield frequencies and fire through them. Whether or not Ships and transporters can pass through them seems to be up the writers, but you can assume they can but in the case of transporters it's probably incredibly dangerous.

What about in Star Trek VI during the final battle where the shields are up but it doesn't seem to matter because the Enterprise gets pummled. I mean it seems that if your shields are up shouldn't they stop damage to the ship...

@TallShip286 They reduced damage to the ship. During one the earlier parts of the battle, the torpedos just caused scarring on the hull. When the shields failed, on of Changs torpedos blew a hole completely through the primary hull.

@TallShip286 Nero's weapons did have a slight EMP efect on sheilds so their usefulness was limited sothe weapons caused more dammage. Also the Nerada was over a hundred years more advanced and you saw what a dammaged Defiant did to the NX class ships in Thru a miror darkly ENT, so it stands to reason that the weapons would be far more affective than era weapons.

@TallShip286 Shields are just an energy barrier for energy weapons. It's the ablative armor that protects the hull against torpedoes. You don't use tops against shields, you use them against armor.

The thin shields are because of simpler tech. Early star ships didnt have shields, istead they polarized the hull. The kelvins shields must be a earlier version.

Someone told me that this version of "Star Trek" will be or has been added to "Bridge Commander" So with that, you can actually put the Defiant or any other Ship from the TV series against enemies of this "Re imagined" version.

firing torpedoes is the best offense against an unshielded or lightly shielded craft due to the torpedoes explosive yield,phasers are used to drain shields and torpedoes are used for the coup de gras, im a trekky nerd and im sorry..lol lol

The only hting that could have made this vid any better-the Enterprise (and possibly the Kelvin), firing off their main phaser banks like the Enterprise did to combat the Narada's torpedoes towards the end of the film.
