i would rather read the 1000 page novel over and over than watch this again. for someone who has read the book and enjoyed it very much like me, any changes that were made took away the real heart of the story. so i didnt feel bad for any character that died. its still a great miniseries but compare to the book its no match.

Amazing mini series :):) i agree with that comment... yeah there's a little sorrow for William i thought too.,. but i also thought about Alfreds position the whole series.... that guy just couldn't catch a break.. which was why he became such a little shit the whole way... anyway amazing series there needs to be more of these kind of TV shows made... i'm really enjoying many of this type of series... Spartacus, Game of Thrones, Camelot... i'm loving them thanks HBO&Starz :)

I feel lost, for a week now The Pillars of the Earth has been my life, engrossed in the book and then the TV series, now I feel like I've lost a family member, like I've returned to the real world. It was as ifI lived among all of them as well, and now I wish I could go back. Re-reading the book won't do it, I want new stories about the characters to follow them further in their world, altohugh I know I can't have it. Thankyou Ken Follett, for bringing this masterpiece in to my life.

@kRypt1Kz that is exactly how I felt when I finished the book. I was in a sort of depressed state and I felt as if one of my closest friends had just passed away. I have yet to re-read it because I know it just won't be the same as the first time I read it. The stories won't be fresh and there won't be that sense of anticipation from not knowing what is going to happen next. The Pillars of the Earth is a true literary masterpiece and even though I finished it some months ago I still miss it.

I rented this show in netflix and i wonder why I never heard a word about "Pillar of the Earht" on T.V in U.S..Is one of the best shows ever made. Same for the movie "Agora". I agree with this choice. Cliffhangers piss me off, but I can live with them. More importantly, if condensed into movie form a lot of important bits would be left out.

I just hope the production values and acting are goody-gumdrops. And yes, I hope Prior Philip forgets himself and punches someone at least once. :-)

@sevilayaydogan His mother is a horrible woman and and played a part in the making of the wretched kind of man that William becomes.....but the things he did in the book are beyond forgivable, and he was in no way under the Regan's influence. He was controlled by his won rage. I had to stop myself from scratching out his name whenever I came across it.

I'm just reading the book by KEN FOLLETT now and i'm a bit disappointed to be honest as it's nowhere near as good as i expected. It's too predictable. Every misfortune that befalls the characters has an instant answer to hand and i find the personal grudges that persist for years and years a tad unbelievable. They would have lost patience and just killed each other off surely?I much preferred the recently written (Robin Hood) book by ANGUS DONALD called "outlaw". First of a trilogy. Recommended.

Read the book last year, then last week I find out about this, due to be screened in the uk from 16th October on Channel 4. I hope it is not a dissapointment, because for me, it is the greatest book I have ever read. Wordl without end is also fantastic, and I am currently reading his latest, Fall of Giants, which came out last week, and 250 pages in, absolutely spellbinding.

I'm on chapter 2 of this mini series and I can tell you it is a freemason propaganda all the way. Terms like master builder, building cathedrals with triangular roofs, saying that the Church is bad and wrong all the time. @juliocesar24 buddy read the book before you write it off as freemason propaganda, the writer isn't pissing on the church, theirs only one villainous clergy character, pretty well the rest are goodly or end up doing something goodly... this story is just a cast of peoples lives in that era, hardly anything against jesus. I read the book, as well as the follow up book Worl Without End. I've only watched the first 4 hours on Netfilx so far and it's such a disappointment to me. There are so many main charcters missing from the series that were in the book. This why I rarely see a movie after reading the book. I guess I thought this would be different because its an 8 part series.
