to me this is my favorite zep song!!!! page is a little sloppy here, and he was known for being that way live, but the album version off of PHYSICAL GRAFFITTI is an incredibly beautiful and moving song, the guitars are mixed amazingly!!! hes got a 12 string, a telecaster, and a mandolin going on!!! I WANT THIS SONG PLAYED AT MY FUNERAL!!!! makes me almost cry everytime i hear it!!! ZEPPELIN FOREVER!!!
fuck this so good to the ears.. wonder why PAGEYdidn't put it on the dvd?? now i kneel to the gods of rock for they are the world's greatist band... no question, hands down !!!!!!!
@TheRealToneZone today i can agree with you but tomorrow "the rain song" will be their best song.day after that it might be "since ive been loving you".IMO they made too many kickass songs its impossible to say this or that song is their best.if you ask 10 zep fans their fav you will get at least 7 different answers
my 2nd fav zeppelin tune...i've been playing this version for yers- but NEVER- knew jimmy played a tele on this...never saw him on a telecaster before...badass!!! great vid!!
It had several successful songs (Kashmir, Trampled Underfoot, Ten Years Gone, House of the Holy) and it was nearly twice as large as their typical albums... It might be close to IV, only because IV is so balanced with several great songs as well... But even Plant said Physical Graffiti was his favourite album with them.
he doesnt nessacerally need his bender tele, I play the song on my strat all the time, but personally i love the pedal steel effects he gets out of his bender.
also, to anton9108 a whole step from B is C#, B to C is a 1/2 step.
as the eagle leaves the nest.........This song never fails to make me stop and pause. Whatever I may be doing when I hear her, it'll have to wait til the song ends.
Supposedly Plant wrote the lyrics about a girlfriend who made him choose between her and his music 10 years earlier. Luckily for us, she got the boot.
I can't believe this has received so few Likes. I grew up with Zeppelin, and this was always one of my favorites, both lyrically and in song.

What's a B Bender?
AshlandMen 1 year ago
@AshlandMen
Google tells all.
Jimmy put one on the Brown Bomber and a Dark Red Les Paul used on the 77 (i beleive) tour.
rjlongo 1 year ago
@AshlandMen ... Parsons White B-Bender. It is used to just bend the B String to simulate a pedal steel guitar.

This is Zep's best song... You can really tell the heroin got to page by 79 though.

Actually I think he looked better in 79 then he did at the abrupt end of thee 77 tour.
Regardless, glad he cleaned up and we didn't lose him.

Jimmy used a tele in the earlier years of the band. There is footage of them doing Dazed and Confused and he's using a tele.

Then as it was, then again it will be
An' though the course may change sometimes
Rivers always reach the sea
Flyin' skys of fortune, each have separate ways
On the wings of maybe, downing birds of prey
Kind of makes me feel sometimes, didn't have to go
But as the eagle leaves the nest, it's got so far to go
Changes fill my time, baby, that's alright with me
In the midst I think of you, and how it used to be

Such an underrated Zeppelin song.

Page's solo beginning at the 6:09 point is one of the most beautiful he'd ever performed live, and trust me, I've seen him play 'em all.

was their best work.

i don't really like the choice of a tele for this song. Perhaps his double neck woulda been sweet?
LesPaulMan1960 3 years ago
he needed the B bender for thisone, i don't think they made them for any other guita at that time.

what's a B bender?
LesPaulMan1960 3 years ago
"B-Bender is a guitar accessory that enables a player to mechanically bend the B-string up a whole tone "
when he pushes the guitar from himself the b string bends a whole step to c.
anton9108 3 years ago
he didnt need no b-bender, it was played without one on the album, although the B Bender makes this song soo sexy
livezeppelin 3 years ago
on the album it was like 5 guitars or something, and that's a damn good reason :P
