technically the eldars are the good guys, they're the race that oversaw the galaxy and kept everyone in peace for a good long time till they masturbated too much and went blind... (metaphorically speaking)

except they make a huge thing about keeping the populous uneducated and subservent and kill you if you don't. on way more then one occasion the space marines have purged entire planets life. As a matter of fact both in Dark Crusade and Soul Storm, the space marine objective was exactly that. GO TEAM. If you were looking for good guys the closest you'll get is the Tau or the Eldar. And the Tau don't like us much because apparently humanity is still deluded bigoted xenophobes. I don't blame them.

The eldar are not the good guys not at all. The eldar only care about themselves and the only reason they intervene or side with other races is because the events that might occur would ultimately lead to the craftworlds destruction or lead to something terrible to occur to them. Also the eldar anytime they side almost always betray their allies near the end.

The space marines on the other hand stand for a just cause wiping out ppl like this and martyring themselves for mankind.

Chaos is a fictional kind of magic which "taints" anything that it associates with. The knowledge of that is plain and easy to understand, but the mechanism isn't understood. I'd argue that because the Imperium of man refused to study and understand chaos and how it effects people, they failed to understand its dangers. Thus allowing our naive librarian to be manipulated.

The road to hell is death and suffering, anything that can possibly be presieved as good is only to mislead. There really was no magic behind what lead to his downfall, he was given what he wanted and was consumed by it which was the power of knowledge, but it was knowledge to mislead him over to chaos. The librarian knew about chaos which is why he was asked to examine the artifacts that chaos left behind, secretly left behind by the orchestrator of these schemes of fate.

The Chaos Space Marine is a little bit stronger then the normal marine when i was picking around on the stats and it said they have 4 more melee attack and 3 more shooting damage. And they have same health. i heard chaos was suppose to be vehicle short. they don't have to many good vehicles

Actually, the Tau are immune to the warp. They cannot be affected by chaos magic that corrupts the mind, though they can be harmed by physically manifested magic. And if they could, believe me the Chaos gods would try to taint them.

Also, Ethereals extracts a pheremon from the diamond shape thingy on their forehead that allows them to control the Tau race. Now, the Tau aren't mindless puppets, they're like a bee hive, the phermon makes them want to serve the Ethereals, so they have a happy life

aCtually, Starcraft's races were ripped off of Warhammer 40k's races.

More like Terran- Space Marines, but you have the right idea. In fact, Starcraft was made when Games Workshop didn't allow the creators of Starcraft to make a RTS based on WH40k, so Starcraft was made to appear that they weren't actual WH40k models, but it was obvious that the entire modeling and most of the story and combat procedures made in Starcraft were directly taken or inspired by Warhammer 40k.

Yes, they're being manipulated by the Ethereals. But at least they're happy.

And I, personally, would rather be happy than dead. ^^

About the Civil War: Dunno about that. The Tau are pretty much immune to the effects of the Warp (but also can't travel faster than light because of this), so at least the Tau won't fall prey to Chaos. So if there is a civil war, it won't be in the same way the Imperium had.

Tau are not good. They are a communist-fascist militant scoiety that forces other races to join them or die.

Tau aren't immune to the effects of the warp. Only the Necrons are, sorta. And Tau can fall prey to Chaos, they just aren't a race that the Chaos Gods pay attention to much. And the simply choose not to use warp-travel.

And the Tau make the choice to have the Ethereals lead them.

Possibly. Maybe some races, bu it just depends. Obviously if the Tau conquer an Imperium controlled planet, and you refuse to join them, then they're obviously going to kill you or put you in a very controlled prison because they know you are a threat. I don't think they would otherwise, however. It just depends on the nature of the species.

And besides, they're better than other races who would just kill you off if you don't know what it is. Which doesn't mean they are nto good, per se.

If you throw enough IG at something, it will eventually die. The canonical explanation is that the Empire at large got distracted by more pressing matters (a Tyranid hive fleet) and the crusade ground to a halt. There are now pockets of unsupported ex-IG left behind, with most of them assimilated into Tau culture.

Gaunt's Ghosts is an imperial regiment that is just caught up in the eternal war that they would rather not be fighting. Ibram Gaunt, should have been due for his reward planet but keeps getting shafted on that front and has to keep fighting.

The Grey Knights are a group of space marines that are eternally fighting against the demons of chaos and other evils from the warp.

@gagaplex Well Tau just do what they think are the greater good, which ofcourse more often then not is good for most people, but if anything should be "good" I would say the Eldar are the good people in the Warhammer universe.

One thing I'm really interested in knowing is whether or not the map structure is emphasized by DoW players, of if that's kind of the "StarCraft perspective" that you bring to the game. Ie. is there a competitive DoW scene, and what is their mindset? I realize I should probably watch more of your commentaries of it all, but it doesn't seem to grasp me as immediately as SC does. Since when did the Empire and it's Space Marines become the good guys? It's one of the most brutal regimes in human history. The Emperor devours human psychers to survive, ffs. xD Marines are bloodthirsty, intolerant, fanatical warrior-monks and generally not nice at all.

Not human psykers necessarily. Just humans. Usually bad ones, for their punishment. Of course the Emperor isn't aware of this, since he's half-dead.

Intolerant? Not really. And yes, they are fanatical, because of the growth of the cult of the god emperor, plus the best way for the Imperium to resist chaos is to do so religiously. Even though those who support chaos do so with good intentions, they always end up turning to evil.

But chaos is still awesome and more powerful than the Imperium
