  • Jan's message to the youth of every generation is to stay the hell away from the drugs and booze. She and I were the same age and came from the the gulf shore of Texas so she was me and I was her. I survived and she didn't. It was such a waste because she wanted to be beautiful and skinny. The diet pills we did were as bad if not worse than the recreational stuff she did and for what? Her talant should have carried her but she didn't believe in herself. I had a life and she is still dead.

  • Esto es el paraiso, que voz y un gpo buenisimo !

  • Janis was to the earth such a short time yet she left a massive legacy for future generations :D

  • Legend

  • She was a lost and lonely soul, all she wanted was to love and be loved and respected,,,well and I love and respect you Pearl..miss you

  • she still here !!!!!!spetacular!!!! intensity it is Janis!

  • Pearl kicked heroin.

She and I are still engaged.

  • Just imagine if Janis and Jimi had kids together. OMG!

  • @leftcoaster67 wow. that thought blew my mind

  • "Down On Me" (the studio version, not this live version) was originally a B-side from the 1st unsuccessful 1967 Big Brother & the Holding Company album. After the massive success of the 2nd 1968 Big Brother & the Holding Company album, "Cheap Thrills," this live recording of "Down on Me' was released as a single to great success. It was recorded sometime in 1967 or 1968. It is my personal fvorite live version of Joplin in concert. She is at her best.

  • Amazing....

  • Happy Birthday Pearl, we miss you <3

  • happy birthday janis ;)

  • Happy birthday to you, beautiful Pearl!! The only one Queen of Rock and Roll!!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  • Janis ROCKS

  • This is always a pure adrenaline rush! ABsolutely. Im serious. And Ive been listening to this stuff my whole life. Never gets old. Gawd!

  • @NoRosesForMe Same, it never, ever gets old.

  • @TheGypsyblue awww ♥ thanks :) Im 12 or 13 again every time I hear this.. My sister is in her room blasting this. Shes getting ready for a date or somethin and tellin me about this woman whos singing and ....wow.....now Im older and she ( my sister) is still the one particular person who gets the credit for my musical obsessions. Love my sis so much. xx PEACE and blessings to ya Gypsy.~~ "Jenny"

  • One of my favorite live tracks EVER! Does this ROCK or what!!

  • @avdreader1

Is this her live? She sounds fantastic in this song.

  • Had BB&THC at a festival we sponsored and took 'em to a rib joint in Erie, PA -- manager had a Janis poster up and fed us all for free when he was hipped to the band as customers! Left with full bellies and he got a signed poster... Their then -current singer was doing a fine job...

  • Janis is hot

  • I wouldn't let ANY dude have me as his bitch to rag on just because he thinks he's right even if he were my own brother the mthr fckr! "Jesus" for Janis I say Big Brother!

  • RAW and UNINHIBITED.. Inspite of her PAINS! I LOVE and MISS.. JANIS! SHE GAVE herself.. to us.. through her music. Memories.. that STILL.. MOVE ME!

  • 0:07 "I Dont want to hear a wrong chord all night long." -JJ-

  • Thanks for this!

  • WOOOOOOOOT to this song!

  • looks like 12 people aint down on janis

  • There's no way you can listen to this song and not go "My. Fucking. God." I feel like my guts just spilled out onto the floor...In a good way.

  • down on me l:(

(JA! no me impedira seguir adelante)

  • que buena canionnnnnnnnnnn me llego recien a los 25 años pero cambio mi vida oda a janis

    o reuqiem

    no mejor oda

  • Das de minha eleição, para dançar e sentir forte...

  • she is the reason I loved music...when I was 9 or so I was truly turned on to her voice and felt what she sang....

  • If it were possible to bring an artist back to life, it would have to be Janis! This world could use some of that real soul. No other artist poured out their feeling like she did. Her stuff was f**king real.

  • @TheDurtybit pft. LETS BRING BACK THE WHOLE 27 CLUB BACK :) they were ALL REAL :D

  • @hernandeza30 what a treat that would be, real musicians.

  • @TheDurtybit I couldn't agree more with you: Janis would be my choice, too!

  • 10= =

    download me?

    she say download me!?

    download me~ya!!

  • * * * * *

  • what a shame janis had to hook up with the fucking hippies, well we all know what happened after that...

  • Raw talent. Whence comes such another?

  • I'm not a Janis fan but everything about this performance is %$#@ing intense.

    Punk rock blues 100%

  • This pure raw unpasturized rock and roll, don't make it like this anymore. Todays music is homoginized, sanitized and so over packaged it's embarissing. My kids love hearing these songs when I play them.

  • I always loved this performance-it has a lot of life in it plus guitarist is good. I can't remember a rock guitarist playing octaves in this time period.

  • . So many tortured facial expressions. I freeze at frame 1:49. So sad a portrait.

  • To freestyle actually does take a quick Witt and actual thought, but other than that... I agree hip hop shit today sucks. Just felt like putting my own egotistical comment online for all to see:)

  • Janis had TALENT! These hippity hop black pices of shit that sing today are all no talents

  • @RImusclebear you do realize that 'black pices (pieces?) of sh*t' made this type of music, right? smh

  • @aSadPanda11 you are an idiot

  • @Soundrexor how so?

  • @aSadPanda11 STFU fuck face. Otis Redding was an African American, and he is one of the greatest things that has ever graced this world.

  • @hermygagala ....um, yeah, i agree. i'm guessing you meant to reply to the other guy...

  • @aSadPanda11 Well you said "black pieces of shit".

  • @hermygagala i was trying to be sarcastic, which doesn't translate well in text. also i'm black, so yeah lol. but you are totally right about otis redding, he's a legend!

  • @aSadPanda11 I know man. Apparently he was highly influential to Dan McCafferty of Nazareth of who my favorite vocalist is. I love Otis too. Janis as well. I think Janis also influenced Dan but that I cannot confirm. The King of Soul is trully an aptly chosen name. By the way I am Danish (White). Not that the colour of a mans skin means anything. I just want you to know that there are a lot of none racist white folk out there too. Nice to meet you. I like your name on here too. South Park. LOL.

  • @hermygagala it's not big deal if you're white, bro. i hang out with anyone: black, white; boy, girl; gay, straight. it really dont matter to me as long as you're cool people. which you seem to be

  • @aSadPanda11 Haha awesome, you seem to be as well. We seem to share the same great values. As well as great taste in music. Have you checked out Nazareth at all?

  • @hermygagala nah, i've never heard of them before. but i'll def check them out now

  • 8 people must be tone deaf

  • That guitar break gives me goosebumps. Great performance.

  • This has more passion and soul than any of the "stars" today. No show biz bullshit like outlandish costumes and a bunch of distracting dancers. This music doesn't need bizarre distractions to keep you pumped.

  • Yeah, this is rock, but it also is a punk as anything that came after. You don't understand punk, it's not a mohawk and leather jacket...

  • And ANOTHER thing... The only difference between Janis' most punk singers is that she actually has an amazing voice PLUS the attitude..

  • Comment removed

  • this is so punk - they fkn rocked it

  • Pure talent, 41 years later, I still love Janis!

  • Make peace ... ;****

  • Blues, rock as it should be. Eat this , Shakira, Beoncé & co.

  • @oepseknoeps No comparison. It's like they are brain dead.

  • janis yeahhhh

  • HELL YA... I LOVE THE WAY JANIS SAYS HEY! AND NA NA NA. AND THOSE SCREAMS WERE SHE IS SINGINGING CHORDS! NO FEAR TO LET GO.. LOVE YOU JANIS!

  • manifiestaelalma, You deserve huge thanks. You've done splendid work here and Janis fans are grateful. In the same vein, gratitude to reggaegirl1982 and others for a veritable archive of the amazing Janis Joplin. Her youthfulness is stunning to recall...and the photos seem extra poignant to me. The power of her rendition all the more remarkable in light of the 23-27 year-old she was at the time. If ever there was an old soul, it was certainly Janis's.

  • ObeyVonZip: I agree. Nobody knows any of THEIR names. Meanwhile, Janis is a legend, and rightly so. You don't even have to say "Joplin," just "Janis," and everyone knows who she is. She put everything she had into her songs.

  • Blooming Fab , Love my Janis, People call me that, because they know she my fave, thanks

  • MORAISITO AMETISTA - the best...

  • Love this song. but Janice is a good example of someone that was treated like

an outcast by her teen peers. wonder if she would still be alive if she hadn't looked

for love in a bottle and a needle

  • @oldermusiclover Amen brother. Janis went to her 10th high school reunion and those asswipes stil treated her like trash. Douchebags. Fuck 'em.

  • @daddybug101 I loved my S. Comfort and Janis but have to have just Janis now and no Comfort. She still sounds like the best to me even without it. LOL Have a great day!

  • A good Chug of Southern Comfort and the Great Janis Joplin singin "Down on Me". Don't get no better than this.

  • no she drank Southern Comfort - so much the company bought her a full length fur coat for her "free advertising." LOL True!!

  • @feather857 I'd try to go the limit with Southern Comfort. Don't mix it, lol.

  • Sadly that is the music industry today :( All about fake smiles fake bodies and no true talent... There's hope though.. as I watch my teenage daughter and her friends 'Jam' together to everything from Janis to Pink Floyd and even music like Queensryche.. There's hope for the future ;)

  • she is one of a kind! i love this girl! i salute u with a southern comfort!

  • I love this song. She loved Jack Daniels!!!

  • @BiancaDarling What can you expect from people who learn beauty from air-brushed magazine ads?

  • Amazing talent, amazing women, wish you were here

  • At the end of the video there's a picture of Janis with her beloved dog George who was lost shortly before she died. Janis took him for a ride in her Porche and when she came outside from the store George was gone. She went on the local radio stations and begged whoever found him to return him but she never got him back. R.I.P Janis!

  • @StaunchComic

Interesting story. I love music trivia.!!!!!

  • Interesting solo! Bet the guitarist took a double dose of Owsley that night.

  • @haupper Sorry to disappoint, but the band prefered to steer clear of psychedelics. Not that a significant percentage of the audience wasn't flying....

  • @beachdog67 are you out your fuckin mind Big Brother not into psychedelics? and next you'll try and tell me John Lennon was a closeted Regan republican.

  • @Hermunkle Hard to tell if your tongue is in your cheek or not, but I'm not gonna argue the point.

If you were there, you know. If you weren't, you don't.

    Cheers.

  • Crystal Bowersox should have song this song. Would have been perfect for her.

  • The 4 people who didn't like this can burn in fucking hell, that's all I have to say.

  • alli fwni re paidia.Alla kyvika, anthema kai an tin ftasei pote kaneis....Thea...

  • We covered the song in our band as the ideal opener to set the tone. Great song, great band.

  • I think they gave it less than 5 stars because it is yet another "picture video". I wish there were something to designate when it's a compilation of pics vs. actual video.

  • ahem... yes...... good song!

  • ahem...yes.......Love it!

  • you can hear her tell one of the guys "you've been hitting the wrong chord all night!" before she starts singing.

  • i'd go down on her - except she's DEAD! this band rocked hard too..

  • @cryptsub never stopped u b4 nedermier

  • psychedelic rock !! ... awesome !

  • I love you Janis you are rock and roll!

  • she looks like a Traveller

  • down on meee=)))

  • that a five-star singer forever

  • who gave this less than five stars....... shame ... shame on them.

  • @hippie1936 No kidding. How ignorantly arrogant do you need to be to not even know better than to reveal you don't get Janis Joplin.

  • @hippie1936 i will dislike only to provoque you,stupid

janis joplin, where she is now, dont give a fuck about these youtuuue toys

  • @GabrielDhalaman2

  • @GabrielDhalaman2 it's rock bitch

  • @hippie1936 obviously those 11 are deaf :)p

  • Great pics in this video.

    Enjoyed it alot.

  • "Meteors rain stars across the night; the moment may be brief, but it can be so bright" --Neil Peart/Rush, "Chain Lightning". The perfect summation of Janis' life. What a legacy she left in such a short time.

  • Such a beautiful and fitting comment on such a great star - thank you.

  • beautiful..so true.

  • Freakin awesome... always loved this song, and the raw emotion in her singing... there is no one quite like Jannis, or will ever be... The part where she screams from 1:03 - 1:05 gives me goosebumps

  • There is an ancient greek says: who's very loved by the Gods die young.....

  • that is probs why Jimi Hendrix died then

  • es la mejor version!!

  • Thanks for this upload. This is one of the best versions

  • Maria Callas , Edith Piaf, Janis Joplin.

These three where in a higher level of music and they became music themselves.
