I like it from mickey collins when she was suppose to get married , thanks for posting hen ...And then da inevitable, he was gunned down ....Nice vocals mo chara!!
Maureen Hegarty .....what a wondrous voice! The Good Lord has bestowed on you a glorious gift and I feel blessed to hear the timeless, ethereal music of Ireland honoured like this. Thank you !
Love thee dearest would certainly benefit from your singing. I seem to remember an arrangement by the late Havelock Nelson that perfectly supports the melody as the Hughes does here!!
By the way should you see Elizabeth Bicker any time soon would you tell her Peter Bailie sends his best wishes...we were colleagues a century ago (or so it seems)!!
well done again maureen, this is a beautiful song and you have done it justice. Have you listened to the late great john count mc cormacks version? Your pianist has that tune down to a tee, this song is being sung at our wedding ceremony in june. Love thee drarest is also being sung. Have you covered it?
Thanks maureen, I think you would also do it justice. You have a beautiful voice and your operatic tone would also do marble halls justice, I would love to hear you perform these songs in the future. Best wishes.
The first operatic song I ever learnt was "The Dream" from The Bohemian Girl...(Marble halls). I sang it in Feis Doire Colmcille and often in concerts.
not doing maureen any injustice but i think sinead o conor done a version of this which i think is the best very haunting.i find this a bit operatic but still a great performance
I also love Alan Stivell's version. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard a bad version!

i like the piano arrangements for these folk songs you sing too; does your pianist arrange them?

shouldn't it read "my father won't slight you for your lack of kine"? i.e., "my father won't slight you because you're poor"? (no cows?)

I've never heard this with solo piano. Its just beautiful. Brings out the chaste soulfulness of the song.

It is a beautiful song. I have sung it on many occasions without piano but I like this accompaniment.

stid77, I have also heard Sinead O`Connors rendition, nice try, but nowhere near this version, Maureen sings this song to perfection.
