Gretzky and Lemieux played in a time when the defence were not as strong and fast as they are now so there is no way to really compare. The current hockey era is nothing like it was in the 80's, if Crosby was playing in the 80's he would have gotten 200 points in a season. When Crosby turns it on out there he can make a good defenceman look like a fool.

In the 80's the oilers would win games by scores of 7-5 and Grant Fuhr was considered a good goalie. Learn a little about the game before you talk about it.

Sidney Crosby missed 41 games and Ovechkin almost participated the whole season (79 games if I'm not wrong) and they tied for for goals. i am so sick of hearing about how ovechkin is greater then sid. what great things did ovechkin do close to nothing. sid on the other hand did a lot of great things and his time in the nhl is still not close to being an end. 1 he was the youngest player to get signed in the nhl. 2 he was the youngest captain in the hole nhl. 3 the youngest player to win the cup. 4 gold medal winner. now what did ovechkin do that comes even close to any of that? that's right nothing at all.

Crosby may or may not be the greatest ever but you can't ignore the fact that he is a Champion. Gretzky and Lemieux played in a time when the defence were not as strong and fast as they are now so there is no way to really compare. The current hockey era is nothing like it was in the 80's, if Crosby was playing in the 80's he would have gotten 200 points in a season. When Crosby turns it on out there he can make a good defenceman look like a fool.

@packers256 If you know anything about hockey and how the game has evolved over the past 20 years you would understand. The thing is you cant compare Crosby to Gretzky based on points, Gretzky played in an era where goalies were not nearly as good as they are now and defence were not nearly as quick and strong (as a whole). In the 80's the oilers would win games by scores of 7-5 and Grant Fuhr was considered a good goalie. Learn a little about the game before you talk about it.

If you can find 4 players who have played in the last 10 years who could dominate like Crosby can then go ahead. Its not about flashes of greatness, Ovechkin is an incredible talent but being talented is nothing when you do not show up when it counts (playoffs). Crosby is a proven champion. TOEWS and CROSBY are the top two in the league, because they are Championship players who can dominate any team.

@JoeS434 Not sure if you know this, but teams win championships, not one player. Zetterberg and Datsyuk dominate Crosby and Malkin whenever they play. I'm not a fan of Crosby or Ovechkin, but I think Ovi is a better player. Other players from the last 10 years: Iginla, Lidstrom, Kovalchuk, Thornton. If you want to go a few years back, Jagr and Lemieux.

Zetterberg and Datsyuk are incredible but seldom do you watch detroit play and see what looks like just either of those guys running the show like Ovechkin, Crosby or Malkin do. Detroit has been the most well rounded team over the last 20 years. Jagr and Lemieux are in this group as well but the other names you mentioned are not at the same level though they are great players.

@firefool123 your right if Iginla did not pass Crosby the puck he would not have scored. I guess the only reason why the puck went into the net was because of the pass and it had nothing to do with Crosby being a great goal scorer. Sorry I forgot that there was 5 other guys on the ice with Crosby when he scored the game winning goal and essentially they all are partly responsible for the goal.
