This is great! Thank you expert knitter! Now my nupps will be beautiful and puffy instead of flat and floppy! Wouldn't you know the only way to make knitting better is to crochet it :)
GENIUS!!! I've been struggling with nupps today following a pattern which said to k1,p1,k1,p1,k1 into stitch and then draw first four loops over last. BUT the nupps sit on the wrong (purl) side and won't be pushed to the right side where I want them. Your method will be MUCH better. Can't thank you enough :)
Wow... really, the easiest Nupp method I've seen around!! (and I've been researching, trying to get the nuts to do this!). Now it will be easy peasy! Thanks!! :-D
Absolute genius! I've learned to create nice, even nupps, but it was a trial to get there, and there is always the risk of dropping a loop on the next row when purling them all together. Your method eliminates that risk. I love it!
Awesome. I may be able to preserve my mind after all. The stupid nupps were ruining an otherwise completely enjoyable project. Just don't tell the Estonians.
Wait, so when knitting back again on the wrong side, doesn't that make the nupp a level lower than it should be if you knit the single stitch from having completed the nupp on the right side? Or does this just not matter?
@emma42ification Hi, I'm interested in your question also. What to do with that single stitch on the return row? Just thinking here: wouldn't you slip it over to the other needle without working it? because it's already worked.
Thanks for asking this. I hope Myra chimes in soon enough for the shawl I'm casting on.
I ended up just purling straight across on the wrong side, including the completed nupp stitches. I tried to slip them at first but then you're carrying your working yarn across the slipped stitch which didn't really work well. In the overall scheme of things the discrepancy wasn't noticeable -- and it's SO much faster! Are you on Ravelry? I'm Emma42 there, and I used this nupp method on my "shawl for Lisa's mom" project.
did you get an answer for your question? I was thinking about it myself. I tried this technique but when I purled across the nupps ended up very far away from each other because of the extra stitch.
You just took a knot out of my stomach. I have Nancy's book on Estonian Knitting and I have put doing this off for MONTHS. It is so blessedly simple! Thank you. . . and may you be blessed a thousand times what you have done for me!
This was great. I tried knitting the nupps the regular way, but your way made the rows go so much easier! I'm really grateful that I found your video while doing my first lace shawl. THANK you!
Thank goodness for this video! I have been struggling with this and am so glad to stumble upon your easy instruction.

Mostly in the UK we say nupp as in nupp, not as in noop.

Genious. I tend to be rather traditional in going about a stitch, but nupps can really push that limit!
