Now - I am not saying that performance tyres are not good or better than budget - I own a hot hatch and would not put some cheap crap tyre on it - but play it again and observe the way he drives with each of the tyres - it is really easy to make a car understeer if you WANT to and that's exactly what he does. You don't come to a corner and turn the steering wheel 90 degrees in a nanosecond - unless you want the car to understeer of course.....
That two seconds is on a tiny circuit, the benifits would be personified on the roads. Shit tyres vs good tyres can be the different between hitting a lampost and making it through a corner gracefully. I had shit tyres and allmost bined my car, tried some proper sport tyres. Understeers is much less severe and can go faster before understeer kicks in.

@marmlad Why do you assume the tyres weren't scrubbed in just because they didn't film it? If you believe someone like Jonathan Palmer isn't aware that tyres need scrubbing then you are hardly in a good position to call them idiots.
@mikerjuk i am 100% percent sure that they didnt drove each set of tyres more than 10 miles, and drove one set of tyres when they were new, and after 200 miles, there was HUUUGE diference!
It's quite clear that none of the posters know anything whatsoever about tyres. Thats is quite worrying.
