  • heh heh i laughed everytime he said boob........*sigh of same*

  • Nice accent, ure latin american right? XP

  • what you do to create the first draw (Black and white)? PS: sorry for the bad english :b

  • what brushes did you use to color?

  • Maybe I missed it but how is it you do the coloring without being exactly in the line work? I see most of the colors out of the line one moment and then you seem to just click something with makes it seems exact.

  • hi

what kind of brush you mostly use in corel painter for LINE ART and COLORING purpose???

    plz do reply...

  • @BairaX He says in another video that he uses coloured pencil. It is also at very high resolution, being from scanned paper.

  • What brush and brush settings are you using?

  • Your brush is so smooth, you got a gd control of it.

  • Hi anyone out there want to help a fellow artist? I'm currently sketching out a male devil character of mine and I'm a novice when it comes to working with these programs, and I'd be very thankful if someone could ask this pressing question for me, I find the colors that I wish to use impossible to find on Gimp's color wheel, is there any easier way to get the colors you want?

  • hi :] what brushes do you use for colouring?

  • Hey, quick question, how do you set up your swatches like you have so you can easily access different shades of the same color? Thanks !

  • do you do the shades/highlights for skin in the same box as the skin color? I'm just confused that ya have a highlight and shading box when ya did it in the skin main color already?

  • Love the work you did here in this demo! What brush are you using here in Corel Paint?

  • Hi, your art is great but you should specify which pencil you used

  • @tarantino252 and which transfer mode you used

  • Guys dont worry too much about what brushes he's using, opacity, flow, grain etc. Just expirment, what works well for Reiq might not work well for you. From what I can tell, think he's using "Robs brushes" (google it..good set of brushes), an airbrush and blender. Nothing special. Try your own though, you'll get better results experimenting than imitating.

  • @goulter1985 What about girls? Just kidding - excelent point

  • I have looked for a bunch of tutorials. I needed to learn about the digital process, methods of thinking, and working. I did not just want a video that went over the software. This is the perfect mesh of both. Reiq does a great job of talking about the thinking going into the work, and mentions other methods. Very well done thanks. I hope there are more.

  • Its corel painter X and photoshop cs3.....its written in the beginning

  • How do you make it so that when you start coloring it, the outline (or sketch) is still very clearly visible? When I start coloring over it completely covers the sketch lines?

  • @GotMilkXZ you need to make sure your lineart is on its own layer. Just think of layers like a stack of paper. whatevers up top will cover the lower layers. So lineart is top layer, colourng underneath the lineart, then your lines will show.

  • @GotMilkXZ put the layer with color under then line drawing

  • What is the program used to make this wonderful picture of a great artist like you, please Help me if you have time to answer greetings

  • pls help im new using this corel draw, i want to know how come u painted in every layer without following the lines, how can i make mine look neat after finishing coloring pls :D

  • @Austhias Hes using Corel Painter, not Corel Draw, seperate programs. It is easier painting base colours over the outlines at the start rather tna trying to stay in the lines. Then when your done just erase the excess colour that went over the lines.

  • tengo una duda, en cada capa aplicaste el color y de algun modo invadio las demas capas, como borraste esos residuos?

  • DO SOME HENTAI TUTORIALS!!! hahahah.......nahh just kidding you are brilliant :D

  • this video is awesome, do you know any video here that shows how back in the day people made this in hand painted cels????

  • I NEED this tablet, but unfortunaly "want" doesn't mean "can".

  • hey friend could you tell me what kind of brush are you using, because y just make amess with any brush i use ,plz tell me what type of brush you used here :)

  • I was wondering, what brush are you using for painting?

  • @ItsMaajoo He wont tell people

  • 2:20 an entire layer for her boobs? o__0

  • @JorVid1 That's reiq you're talking about.

  • I think Reiq uses the smeary round brush. To make this brush: -Dab type : CIRCULAR -Stroke Type: SINGLE -Method: COVER -Subcategory: SOFT COVER -Opacity: ~80% -Expression: PRESSURE On the painter interface--Resat:7% Bleed:100% Jitter: 0.00 ***COREL PAINTER 10*** -
  • @pzag Please help me.I can go to the brush creator but it will only modify the brush I'm currently using.

  • Amazing! Going to Part 2/2!

  • Those crazy straight lines that painter does... I have that problem too. Do you still have it? If not, how did you fix it?

  • I feel like its really hard to understand/see whats going on. Would like to se more of photoshop and more," Okay now i pick this brush and i set it to this so it makes this shadow blend more."

    Just really hard to follow

  • Coloring is not the problem. If I could just sketch as amazing as you do... :(

  • Hey Reinaldo what brush you use in this video?

    thx

  • dude i'v checked your art and it is awsome, love how vibrant the colours are in each picture, gotta ask what set up you use, is it just coral and tablet?

  • Your videos really help me alot. I was just learning how to color in photoshop and your style of artwork is similiar to my own. Did you use a wacon tablet to paint this?

  • hey reiq. Geat work. But, I have one question, what brush exactly did you use to color the girl's skin and close. Please and thank you,

  • I am having the worst time with the line art in my drawing right now... You see, I use Photoshop 7 and each stroke I make with the brush tool looks quite rough and choppy. I can't seem to fix this problem. I've tried adjusting the image resolution and that didn't help, but instead only managed to confuse me even more. I'm going to tear my hair out if I don't figure this out soon! Please help, if you can. I want the smooth, crisp lines you have on your line art here, but nothing I do is working.

  • @racbie95 just scan in a hand-drawn inking, the results are just the same. That's what I do.

  • @racbie95 I know this is a pretty late reply. But if your using Photoshop for doing lineart, in the "brushes" panel try turning on Shape dynamics and Transfer, and maybe turn down the hardness of the brush slightly to around 80-90 percent, might help smooth your lines. If your using painter, just use the cover pencil, it works well.

  • very helpful tutorial; you are a very talented artist!

  • Saw your video listed on the sidebar -- instantly subscribed. You are a real inspiration man, thank you :)

  • sweedish?

  • can you listed down what are the tool/pallete that you always use for painting in corel painter

  • hey reiq im sure your using a tablet,, i already subs.to you before but i dont know you have a youtube account hehe nice tutorial :)

  • I am currently coloring a female creation of my own (a devil girl), but my background is white, not grey. Does that really make a difference, or help you see the colors better?

  • @SteevDragon67 Hi there, using grey as a background will help a lot because it enables you to spot light colors (like the skin) if they are going out of the line. I also use grey as background. :D

  • What settings do you put your brush on and what brush is used :)?

  • @Empringle: He'll never tell but I got pretty much the same behavior with the following brush:

    Artists' Oils/Oily Bristle

    Opacity: 58%

    Resat:17%

    Bleed: 61%

    Jitter: 0,00

You can do pretty had-edged lines with it if you press hard, and when applied softly it blends like a charm.

  • why is it that, that when i create a new layer i cannot paint on it?

  • are the skin color and the hair same layer?

  • what brush do you use when applying colour?

  • What brush are you using? That's all I need to know! :)

  • @xLiKx Its in Corel Painter - The tool is Oils: Smeary Round. Its dab type has been changed from Camel Hair to Circular in the Brush Creator section of Painter. I know this because I read a tutorial of the artists that was in a Corel Painter magazine :)

  • @Hermizzle88 thank you!

  • @Hermizzle88 thank u but how do ichange the camel hair to circular ? i did the others but it paints weird cause i cant chane the camel for circular ,could u tel me how?

  • @mastertheoneajma Click on Window in the top toolbar of Corel Painter and then select Show Brush Creator or press Ctrl + B

The Brush Creator box will come up, so now under the 'Stroke Designer' tab, click on 'General' on the left side of the window and the first option you should see is 'Dab Type' and the automatic setting should say Camel Hair. Now click on that drop down list and search for Circular (should be the very first option on the list)

    Hopefully that helps!

  • Hey Reiq, big fan, big question. How did you paint the pic without going over the lines? I attempted to delete the white space from the background and duplicate the layer to set it on top (so that I can paint on the layers under the lineart) but painter won't let me duplicate the background and/or edit it (of course the background is locked). Any and all heelp would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Dreth

  • this video helped me so much!! thanks thanks thanks!!!

  • Can you clarify what happens at 4:46 right under the left arm when you make a dark shade and a lighter shade that seems to completely over-opacity it but somehow create that smexy blend?

  • @rioshu It's the brush and the pressure of the pen, also I have checked the option "pick underlying colour" in the layers window. :d

  • Wooooow me ha encantado!

se veee muuuuuy padre....una preguntaa...que brochas utilizas para que de el efecto taaan de las sombras difuminado????!!!

excelente en verdad me encanto :D

  • I have a question, i'm entering a contest where the picture must be a JPEG file, but when ever I try to do a mutilayered image and save it as a JPEG it says it's not allowed, is this normal? (sry if it is, i just started using the program)

  • @soujofan this is completely unrelated to the Tutorial, but the answer is simple .JPG it not an editing File like PSD it's the final and flat version of your work

  • @reiqws ok, thanks :D sry. i was asking around everywhere and no one had the answer so. . .

  • @reiqws Do you have a tutorial on how to blend colors????

  • @soujofan Save for Web and Devices works every time. I have to do that for my classes.

  • How do you make the colors blend like this? you like spread them or blur them or something... I never knew how to do this on Ps

  • whats the coloring your using? because im just using the marker settings but i want that paintig (spraypaint) look you have there

  • you're good. you're really good. but you wrote tutorial. I feel like just watching you coloring. I didn't learn... can you please explain what brushes you used and the apacity, flow... etc... please!

  • I didn't know Borat was an artist XD

  • looks good but i dont know how to color over the black without erasing it...

  • @ttresnan1 just set your black line layer in either multiply (if you have a white background) or screen (if you have a black background).

  • How did you pull up that box with your chosen colors? The one under your color box? How can you choose your colors like that?

  • Hey!! great tutorial!!! Thank you for posting it free! I have a question... what brushes are you using to coloring the artwork in painter? Thanks for your answer.

Y el ingles está bien... de pronto es porque los que hablamos español lo entendemos mejor :)

  • what kind of brush is he using? is it the airbrush O_O?

    note im new to corel

  • Great tutorial! I greatly appreciate your insights and knowledge.Keep up the great work. Sigue ensenando!

  • reiq, can you please tell me what program you are using to create your line art and to color? Thank you, your answer will be greatly appreciated!!

  • why is there a lot of people hating these videos? why dont you make ur own video then, im a noob artist,, but for me, a video like this is a big help,, so if dont have anything good to say then stfu... just watch and learn!!!

  • gos its alot of douche bags on these things. everyone that's said something negative hasn't even tried to remotely make their criticism constructive. that shit sickens me. god job and good tutorial if you didnt understand it that means that you need to go and build a more general knowledge of paint and-or ps.

  • Is this the speed you really paint at or have you sped the video up? O.o

  • dear karin: some ppl born to teach. some ppl dont...it is nothing wrong with ppl who like to share something with other.

  • @Karin1369 Haters gonna hate.

  • @reiqws Lmao<3 xD

  • @reiqws I laughed at your answer to Karins comment. I completely agree with you.

  • @Karin1369 "You aren't really an artist, you're an Illustrator" I don't want to seem like a troll but isn't illustration a form of art?, Maybe I'm wrong here but I'm pretty sure that roughly 100.01% of the world's greatest works of art started out as Illustrations. And what's this about coping styles? -_- It sounds like Reiq is giving straight forward advice on what he does while coloring.

and dammit...when replying to this I accidentally hit thumbs up instead of clicking reply *facepalm*

  • @Karin1369 well...at the end of the day he will be remembered as a great artist, but I don't know about you and side note "your not an artist your an illustrator" that made me lmao.

@reiqws I love your work man keep it up, thanks for giving us your method of painting I look forward to seeing more of your work and videos. Dont listen to trolls if everybody loves you someone have to hate you XD

  • @Karin1369

    wow harsh...

  • @Karin1369 so karin do you think that you can teach better than reiq because you should post a link to your video. and hes just showing people what he does. also illustration is an art form

  • @Karin1369 fuck off cut. why dont you post your work on here since you have such a great concept of whats creative and whats not... also do your research Armando Huerta airbrushes not digitally paint and he would beat the shit out of you for getting that wrong you ignorant fuck.

  • @Karin1369 Funny u should say that when you're not only watching it but also do not have any video making nor artistic skills to back yourself up. And do you not realize how many video tutorials are uploaded with the same intentions of this man? I wish you could hear how ridiculous you sound...

  • What brush are you using?

  • Thank you for posting this video. I can't get over all the rude remarks people are making. I appreciate your taking the time to make this video. It was very helpful!

  • Could you tell me what brush you use in Painter for the coloring of your girl.

    Thanks

  • i love ur work

  • i want to know ¿wich tool are you using?, please.

    :)

  • I understand just fine, If you have even the slightest idea of tools in gimp or photoshop, you can tell he's using the airbrush, and brush tool. And obviously bluring some parts of it.

  • El video esta muy bueno, Felicitaciones!!!

  • Could you maybe include some detail about what brushes/settings you use? That would help a lot.

  • Oh, God, so Lucky I fell upon this!

Love your manly accent. No homo.

Next time do it in your normal language. For the lulz. <3

  • As far as his so called "tutorial" goes, I think it's ok. I keep in mind his suggestions of where and how to paint, and that's good enough with whatever brush you use.

Remember, it's not the tool that makes you a better artist. It's how you use it!

  • Play around with Corel, it's brushes and options. In time you will discover your own brush.

I've created a brush (or brushes) that produce the same effects as Reiq's, though it will never be exactly like his "formula". But from there I was able to create my own customized brushes too, so I'm quite satisfied.

  • Guys,

It's useless asking Reiq what brushes he's using. It's clear enough that HE WILL NOT TELL YOU.

I've asked him here a couple of times (long, long ago...), he's answered all other comments except for the ones about the brushes people are asking him about.

Though I think it's very selfish and egocentric of him not to share, I do respect his right to keep his personal tools secret because obviously his brushes are what gives Reiq his own style.

  • of, third time asking, but how do you make it so you can blend the colours so smoth whit the same brush as you draw whit?

  • how do you get the colours to blend so good and smoth? i created a brush wich is a mix of digital watercolour: new simple water, and tinting: basic round, but when i colour and want to blend, it turns out streaky and wierd...

  • oh, damn it, annyonewho know a brush that can make it look watercoloury like this, but im completly lost. do annyone have a tip?

  • One thing is that he doesn't share his brushes so don't waste your time asking for it....

  • so do you use photoshop or corel in this tut.?

  • May I ask what kind of brush(es) do you use for the hair and skin tones?

I'm trying to do dynamic shading like you are, but i can never find a good brush type.

    Also, what is the opacity?

  • @Izaac7719 On my PS cs4 there are some brushes with the circle shape which are the normal brushes for you to paint, but there a 2 types of those. The first pairs of the circles brushes (#1, #3, #5 and #19) are the solid ones but the other pair begging to paint in a solid tone then it fades away when finishing the painting.. Those are might similar of what he is using..

  • @Izaac7719 Opacity is a tool that can turn the color of tone solid to transparent!

  • guys, the brush doesn't matter. trust me.

he's emphasising where the shadows are to be placed and thats what is important.

  • What brush do you use? ^^

  • what's brush you use?

  • What brushes are you using?

  • @adrielle088 I'm not a tutor I'm an Artist, plus this is free :D

  • @reiqws what tool did you use to paint

  • @reiqws but u put the word "tutorial" at this video :D no offense hehe.. i like ur drawing, really.. thx for the video.

  • @reiqws amen...people need to learn by DOING, this is a great start to learn technique. it is quite clear to see the steps taken just by watching

  • @reiqws Best excuse ever . :D

  • @adrielle088 he never said this was a beginners tutorial lol..works well for me

  • @adrielle088 Learn basics before attempting more advanced things. It's much easier to understand if you understand the basis of what he's going in detail with.

    You're not a good learner :\

  • @adrielle088

o god your lame, the man shows you the steps he makes if you can only draw shit then you dont need to begin with some more "advanced for you" drawing

start with a pencil and learn from yourself

its not like you will be able to draw awesome paints by watching a tutorial

  • @adrielle088, you're a fuckign douchebag, he IS clearifying, you're just an idiot.

  • @adrielle088 a lot of people on youtube try to make a tutorial, they just end up doing what they do instead of actually tlling how to do it

  • @adrielle088 Dude you have NO fucking idea. it;s now a how to it;s a speed drawing of easily the best fuckign artist of this style I have ever digitally seen. Not to be a fangirl or anything ofcourse but his stuffs amazing. no matter how...graphic it is sometimes. XD rofl

  • what kind of brushes do you use in corel painter? there is so many so I dont know which brushes to use :S please help me!

  • when english is not your main language try to speak slow people!

  • @MarcusWindrune True, but I speak quite quickly in Spanish so it's kinda natural of me to speak quickly, If I speak slow I feel retarded.

  • @reiqws well whatever suits you, please don't get me wrong I'm a big fan I would just like to know what your saying .___.

  • @MarcusWindrune When English is your first language, try to keep up

  • @MarcusWindrune I can understand just fine.. . w .

  • @MarcusWindrune

If English is not your main language, stop bothering people who speak it well, just because you can't understand it... I understood everything, only wathing it once :D

  • @MarcusWindrune I can understand him JUST FINE. Try harder to comprehend english.

  • beautiful piece. More technical details please (e.g. brush settings, opacity etc)

  • What's the size of the canvas? The lines look so smooth and the colors aren't pixelated >.<

  • Is this time-lapsed?

  • hhoolllyyyyy shiiitttttt, i found your page from watching cintiq vids, and omg im glad i found it i LOVE your work. shit ima fav n practice this for ages!!!

  • Its realy cool maked. but i can´t se wat brush you use, our what layer you make it in :(

  • you do a tutorial then you wont say what kind of brushes you used... SHARE it please

  • i know a bunch of other people already asked, but what brush are you using to shade? i cant seem to find a good one -.-

  • what brush did you use on her t shirt?

  • You have quite a sexy accent ;)

  • OMFG

i did'nt know you had a youtube account!

  • WHat would be better for painting This or Photoshop.?

  • What brush type in Painter are you using for this coloring?

  • can you tell me what program you use to take the video and making it faster? I use camstudio and virtual dub and I don't know how to compress the vid in virtual dub and it takes hours for saving =/

  • @easterbunnyx3 To take the video Camtasia, and for editing it Final Cut pro.

  • great

  • Thank you very much !!!

  • Great colouring skillls. I just wanted to know where did you put your layer with lineart> is it on the top of the other layers or on the bottom.

Keeping less layers realy makes colouring simple for sombody with great artistic skills. LOL

  • In the top Always in the top :D

  • AMAZING!!!!

One question... What tool are you using for the coloring?

  • it might stereotypical but you voice accent reminds me of a camp fashion designer.

i need to know how digitaly colour using just just a mouse but nice work. good job

  • @evanid321 its very likely he is using a Tablet to do this stuff. i don't know anyone who can draw like this with a mouse hahaha.

  • Yea how did u set it up? Idc about how to color: I want to learn the tools u use and how to layer and stuff

  • Man can you show us the settings of the brushes and stuff? That's actually what we want to learn XD

  • @ISlapYouBitch If you check my vid in the vid responses it briefly shows the brush settings at one point.

  • You are not explaining what mode your brush is in....And how did you do your first line drawing..

  • what tool are you using?

  • Painter IX FTW

  • it really is just experience isn't it

  • great video, very helpful!

  • Superb video.
