Maybe I missed it but how is it you do the coloring without being exactly in the line work? I see most of the colors out of the line one moment and then you seem to just click something with makes it seems exact.

Hi anyone out there want to help a fellow artist? I'm currently sketching out a male devil character of mine and I'm a novice when it comes to working with these programs, and I'd be very thankful if someone could ask this pressing question for me, I find the colors that I wish to use impossible to find on Gimp's color wheel, is there any easier way to get the colors you want?
do you do the shades/highlights for skin in the same box as the skin color? I'm just confused that ya have a highlight and shading box when ya did it in the skin main color already?
Guys dont worry too much about what brushes he's using, opacity, flow, grain etc. Just expirment, what works well for Reiq might not work well for you. From what I can tell, think he's using "Robs brushes" (google it..good set of brushes), an airbrush and blender. Nothing special. Try your own though, you'll get better results experimenting than imitating.
I have looked for a bunch of tutorials. I needed to learn about the digital process, methods of thinking, and working. I did not just want a video that went over the software. This is the perfect mesh of both. Reiq does a great job of talking about the thinking going into the work, and mentions other methods. Very well done thanks. I hope there are more.
How do you make it so that when you start coloring it, the outline (or sketch) is still very clearly visible? When I start coloring over it completely covers the sketch lines?
@GotMilkXZ you need to make sure your lineart is on its own layer. Just think of layers like a stack of paper. whatevers up top will cover the lower layers. So lineart is top layer, colourng underneath the lineart, then your lines will show.
pls help im new using this corel draw, i want to know how come u painted in every layer without following the lines, how can i make mine look neat after finishing coloring pls :D
@Austhias Hes using Corel Painter, not Corel Draw, seperate programs. It is easier painting base colours over the outlines at the start rather tna trying to stay in the lines. Then when your done just erase the excess colour that went over the lines.
hey friend could you tell me what kind of brush are you using, because y just make amess with any brush i use ,plz tell me what type of brush you used here :)
I think Reiq uses the smeary round brush. To make this brush: -Dab type : CIRCULAR -Stroke Type: SINGLE -Method: COVER -Subcategory: SOFT COVER -Opacity: ~80% -Expression: PRESSURE On the painter interface--Resat:7% Bleed:100% Jitter: 0.00 ***COREL PAINTER 10*** -
I feel like its really hard to understand/see whats going on. Would like to se more of photoshop and more," Okay now i pick this brush and i set it to this so it makes this shadow blend more."
dude i'v checked your art and it is awsome, love how vibrant the colours are in each picture, gotta ask what set up you use, is it just coral and tablet?
Your videos really help me alot. I was just learning how to color in photoshop and your style of artwork is similiar to my own. Did you use a wacon tablet to paint this?
I am having the worst time with the line art in my drawing right now... You see, I use Photoshop 7 and each stroke I make with the brush tool looks quite rough and choppy. I can't seem to fix this problem. I've tried adjusting the image resolution and that didn't help, but instead only managed to confuse me even more. I'm going to tear my hair out if I don't figure this out soon! Please help, if you can. I want the smooth, crisp lines you have on your line art here, but nothing I do is working.
@racbie95 I know this is a pretty late reply. But if your using Photoshop for doing lineart, in the "brushes" panel try turning on Shape dynamics and Transfer, and maybe turn down the hardness of the brush slightly to around 80-90 percent, might help smooth your lines. If your using painter, just use the cover pencil, it works well.
I am currently coloring a female creation of my own (a devil girl), but my background is white, not grey. Does that really make a difference, or help you see the colors better?
@SteevDragon67 Hi there, using grey as a background will help a lot because it enables you to spot light colors (like the skin) if they are going out of the line. I also use grey as background. :D
@xLiKx Its in Corel Painter - The tool is Oils: Smeary Round. Its dab type has been changed from Camel Hair to Circular in the Brush Creator section of Painter. I know this because I read a tutorial of the artists that was in a Corel Painter magazine :)
@Hermizzle88 thank u but how do ichange the camel hair to circular ? i did the others but it paints weird cause i cant chane the camel for circular ,could u tel me how?
@mastertheoneajma Click on Window in the top toolbar of Corel Painter and then select Show Brush Creator or press Ctrl + B
The Brush Creator box will come up, so now under the 'Stroke Designer' tab, click on 'General' on the left side of the window and the first option you should see is 'Dab Type' and the automatic setting should say Camel Hair. Now click on that drop down list and search for Circular (should be the very first option on the list)
Hey Reiq, big fan, big question. How did you paint the pic without going over the lines? I attempted to delete the white space from the background and duplicate the layer to set it on top (so that I can paint on the layers under the lineart) but painter won't let me duplicate the background and/or edit it (of course the background is locked). Any and all heelp would be appreciated.
Can you clarify what happens at 4:46 right under the left arm when you make a dark shade and a lighter shade that seems to completely over-opacity it but somehow create that smexy blend?
I have a question, i'm entering a contest where the picture must be a JPEG file, but when ever I try to do a mutilayered image and save it as a JPEG it says it's not allowed, is this normal? (sry if it is, i just started using the program)
@soujofan this is completely unrelated to the Tutorial, but the answer is simple .JPG it not an editing File like PSD it's the final and flat version of your work

Thank you for posting this video. I can't get over all the rude remarks people are making. I appreciate your taking the time to make this video. It was very helpful!
I understand just fine, If you have even the slightest idea of tools in gimp or photoshop, you can tell he's using the airbrush, and brush tool. And obviously bluring some parts of it.
As far as his so called "tutorial" goes, I think it's ok. I keep in mind his suggestions of where and how to paint, and that's good enough with whatever brush you use.
Remember, it's not the tool that makes you a better artist. It's how you use it!
Play around with Corel, it's brushes and options. In time you will discover your own brush.
I've created a brush (or brushes) that produce the same effects as Reiq's, though it will never be exactly like his "formula". But from there I was able to create my own customized brushes too, so I'm quite satisfied.
It's useless asking Reiq what brushes he's using. It's clear enough that HE WILL NOT TELL YOU.
I've asked him here a couple of times (long, long ago...), he's answered all other comments except for the ones about the brushes people are asking him about.
Though I think it's very selfish and egocentric of him not to share, I do respect his right to keep his personal tools secret because obviously his brushes are what gives Reiq his own style.
how do you get the colours to blend so good and smoth? i created a brush wich is a mix of digital watercolour: new simple water, and tinting: basic round, but when i colour and want to blend, it turns out streaky and wierd...
@Izaac7719 On my PS cs4 there are some brushes with the circle shape which are the normal brushes for you to paint, but there a 2 types of those. The first pairs of the circles brushes (#1, #3, #5 and #19) are the solid ones but the other pair begging to paint in a solid tone then it fades away when finishing the painting.. Those are might similar of what he is using..
@adrielle088 Learn basics before attempting more advanced things. It's much easier to understand if you understand the basis of what he's going in detail with.
@adrielle088 Dude you have NO fucking idea. it;s now a how to it;s a speed drawing of easily the best fuckign artist of this style I have ever digitally seen. Not to be a fangirl or anything ofcourse but his stuffs amazing. no matter how...graphic it is sometimes. XD rofl
If English is not your main language, stop bothering people who speak it well, just because you can't understand it... I understood everything, only wathing it once :D

Artists' Oils/Oily Bristle
Opacity: 58%
Resat:17%
Bleed: 61%
Jitter: 0,00
You can do pretty had-edged lines with it if you press hard, and when applied softly it blends like a charm.

@Karin1369 Funny u should say that when you're not only watching it but also do not have any video making nor artistic skills to back yourself up. And do you not realize how many video tutorials are uploaded with the same intentions of this man? I wish you could hear how ridiculous you sound...

:)
jack02krauser 1 year ago
I understand just fine, If you have even the slightest idea of tools in gimp or photoshop, you can tell he's using the airbrush, and brush tool. And obviously bluring some parts of it.

El video esta muy bueno, Felicitaciones!!!
indianameregone 1 year ago
Could you maybe include some detail about what brushes/settings you use? That would help a lot.

Oh, God, so Lucky I fell upon this!
Love your manly accent. No homo.
Next time do it in your normal language. For the lulz. <3
WhatBadGod 1 year ago
As far as his so called "tutorial" goes, I think it's ok. I keep in mind his suggestions of where and how to paint, and that's good enough with whatever brush you use.
Remember, it's not the tool that makes you a better artist. It's how you use it!
roy7zen 1 year ago
Play around with Corel, it's brushes and options. In time you will discover your own brush.
I've created a brush (or brushes) that produce the same effects as Reiq's, though it will never be exactly like his "formula". But from there I was able to create my own customized brushes too, so I'm quite satisfied.
roy7zen 1 year ago
Guys,
It's useless asking Reiq what brushes he's using. It's clear enough that HE WILL NOT TELL YOU.
I've asked him here a couple of times (long, long ago...), he's answered all other comments except for the ones about the brushes people are asking him about.
Though I think it's very selfish and egocentric of him not to share, I do respect his right to keep his personal tools secret because obviously his brushes are what gives Reiq his own style.
roy7zen 1 year ago
of, third time asking, but how do you make it so you can blend the colours so smoth whit the same brush as you draw whit?
gothicanimeangel96 1 year ago
how do you get the colours to blend so good and smoth? i created a brush wich is a mix of digital watercolour: new simple water, and tinting: basic round, but when i colour and want to blend, it turns out streaky and wierd...
gothicanimeangel96 1 year ago
oh, damn it, annyonewho know a brush that can make it look watercoloury like this, but im completly lost. do annyone have a tip?
gothicanimeangel96 1 year ago
One thing is that he doesn't share his brushes so don't waste your time asking for it....
TheGreySanctuary 1 year ago
so do you use photoshop or corel in this tut.?
MrSyerthrix 1 year ago
May I ask what kind of brush(es) do you use for the hair and skin tones?
I'm trying to do dynamic shading like you are, but i can never find a good brush type.
Also, what is the opacity?
Izaac7719 1 year ago
@Izaac7719 On my PS cs4 there are some brushes with the circle shape which are the normal brushes for you to paint, but there a 2 types of those. The first pairs of the circles brushes (#1, #3, #5 and #19) are the solid ones but the other pair begging to paint in a solid tone then it fades away when finishing the painting.. Those are might similar of what he is using..
TheGreySanctuary 1 year ago
@Izaac7719 Opacity is a tool that can turn the color of tone solid to transparent!
TheGreySanctuary 1 year ago
guys, the brush doesn't matter. trust me.
he's emphasising where the shadows are to be placed and thats what is important.

@reiqws but u put the word "tutorial" at this video :D no offense hehe.. i like ur drawing, really.. thx for the video.
taqirene 1 year ago
@reiqws amen...people need to learn by DOING, this is a great start to learn technique. it is quite clear to see the steps taken just by watching

@adrielle088 he never said this was a beginners tutorial lol..works well for me
w0nd 1 year ago
@adrielle088 Learn basics before attempting more advanced things. It's much easier to understand if you understand the basis of what he's going in detail with.
You're not a good learner :\
BOONJAGGA 1 year ago
@adrielle088
o god your lame, the man shows you the steps he makes if you can only draw shit then you dont need to begin with some more "advanced for you" drawing
start with a pencil and learn from yourself
its not like you will be able to draw awesome paints by watching a tutorial
suckabustaakadd 1 year ago
@adrielle088, you're a fuckign douchebag, he IS clearifying, you're just an idiot.
Praw48 1 year ago
@adrielle088 a lot of people on youtube try to make a tutorial, they just end up doing what they do instead of actually tlling how to do it

XD rofl

Great colouring skillls. I just wanted to know where did you put your layer with lineart> is it on the top of the other layers or on the bottom.
Keeping less layers realy makes colouring simple for sombody with great artistic skills. LOL
