Volcanoes tend to cough up a lot of volcanic ashes. These ashes are like very fine glass wich get up to the different layers of the atmosphere, and when enough of that gets into engines like jet engines wich use turbines they will clog up and stop working. Not to mention the immense damage it will cause to windows and aluminium parts, wich could crash a plane tooo. No fly zone had nothing to do with "bolts of lightning" lol

lightning phenomenom, psh, I was under the impression that lighning came from the ground up, not from the sky down, but I think it has something to do with the clouds and the moisture and stuff, but don't quote me on that. So maybe the volcano is some kind of hydro volcano? and it's making clouds that are making the lightning or something lol, I don't know, a totally wild guess I suppose.

The lightning is created the same way normal lightning is except with ash instead of moving clouds, just all that ash, gases and such rub together and then release a static discharge which is LIGHTNING. Bzzzzt

lol the volcano lightning is just from the heated up metals and rock in air mixing with one of the many layers of our atmosphere, unless the volcano continues to erupt for... more then 4 weeks we people in the US won't see anything but if it does expect to see some volcanic ash covering everything.... but you gottta admit those pictures where fucking unreal! lol
