Two thumbs up For the Brave Men & Women who'd risk their Dear Lives for a low Orbit Sling Shot to the Vacuum of Space, reason why i put it this way is because there is nothing glamorous to be an "astronaut" being strapped on a billion dollar Taxi Cab full of explosives, hopefully some day we'd have better ways to travel for business & pleasure, without today's rudimentary means.
Hola, pipexelmejor. (Pardon my poor Spanish, por favor-- gracias!) Pero las traducciones Inglesa por sus palabras estan aqui: "Thank God, nothing happened to that Shuttle."
To the other folks here on YouTube: Yo, pipexelmejor was just saying something neutral. Probably just used an online Spanish to English translation engine (like I did), so don't give him/her the thumbs down.

What a shame that massive amounts of money are still bein spent on this "space shit" while the government is broke and non~profits on THIS WORLD are turnin away desparate people for lack of funds..Pure vanity and a cruel joke.
I respect what u think shadowchucklez, but I think your wrong. Within 40 years i believe that humans will be able to at leats colonize mars. Then we will have a whole new planet reasourses to use. Thus causibg a huge influx of money into the market. (new reasourses, space ships, tourism (maybe), and much more)

This technology is out dated. Put a few men/ women on top of an atomic bomb and try to lift it streight up (I know it doesn't go streight upall the way) and hope they make it? The stress on it must be incredible ! Take a look at a simple toy...FIREBALL XL-5 (Gerry Anderson). It takes off on rails & can even come back to earth and land on it's own power, instead of Gliding in??
HONESTLY, I dont understand why this mofo launches straight up!? You are right to say the stress wold be less if they do a diagonal..but I aint no rocket scientist, just a guy with common sense. Plus I think they'd spend less gas too, saving much of it for longer distances (ahem, moon, ahem)
It doesnt launch straight up. Right after it launches you can see that it starts travel downrange over the Atlantic Ocean so that by the time it reaches the prescribed altitude it is travelling around the earth at about 17000 mph.
i am getting tired of the space shuttle i'll like to see the new nasa space crafts ...i mean the new rockets. Can't wait to see their first lauch this year. I can't wait to see the space shuttle retire..
Well u know. the space shuttle is reliable and very safe. lets not rush the progress of our technology. what? u wanna see a repeat of Columbia? If not, then I suggest u take what u get. not to be mean, but if u r tired of watching space shuttle launches, then why did u even watch and/or comment on the video? ur not makin sense. lol.
We saw the launch all the way up in Branford, FL! My daughter and I are going to NASA on a field trip with her class. We get to sleep under a shuttle overnight! If you go to NASA's website you can vote to name Node 3 - we're suggesting GAIA b/c it will give the austronauts a great view of the earth!
"The top priority for the shuttle mission is to deliver and install the final set of solar wings for the space station.
NASA also wants to carry out a crew member exchange — replacing space station resident Sandra Magnus with Japanese shuttle astronaut Koichi Wakata — and drop off and set up a machine for turning astronauts' urine into drinking water. The urine processor that's up there now is not working properly."
I am very happy to see the vidoe NASA STS-119 Space Shuttle Discovery Launch from you, hopefully the others also are happy for You

It has to obtain this speed to cancel out the acceleration due to earth's gravity with centrifugal acceleration.

it does not actual go straight up after it clears the pad it does a roll and starts going at an angle
