about the 15% taino i got it from a friend on a forum i don't remember where he got it found, but try yourself and so some research on Google, you could find very interesting stuff in there. My grandfather's grandfather's came from northern spain, Barcelona is in south-eastern spain.

One thing I will say is that many dominicans and puerto ricans(not all) will claim the very small taino roots they have, while leaving their africanness in the shadow. That same study which was done by a friend of mine, shows that 60% of those participants had African Mtdna, it was distributed as 60% African, 20% Taino, 20% Eurasian (Including north african and middle eastern). I am an American Blackman who, up until now, believed that people of the D.R. were racially balanced. Meaning, the color of ones skin didn't matter - from milk white to blue black, you were one. This is the place that my friends and I boasted on visiting to see this harmony. I guess I was fool to dream such a dream. Hopefully one day I'll find such a place that's void of the racial problem here in the U.S.A.

Why do the Dominicans deny their African ancestry. It makes no sense. Like no one is meaning it as a bad thing. I can't stand it when Dominicans say they are not black. One thing I will say is that many dominicans and puerto ricans(not all) will claim the very small taino roots they have, while leaving their africanness in the shadow. Quisqueya is a name for the island of Hispaniola in the Taíno language meaning "mother of the earth", but also used to refer to the Dominican Republic, one of the two countries on this island. In other words is like a national emblem.
We also use Quisqueya to name the baseball stadium in the capital, there is also a municipality with that name. A type of plant , a beer is also called with that name.

You need to read your history...after columbus arrived on the island the tainos were wiped out in fifty years ask any sociologist, professor of english and even look it up. their is no possible way dominincans have taini in them...they are a mix of spainards and africans thats it. sorry but i not only studied this is the university but my friends husband is a cuban professor ans broke it down and showed me in books. That same study which was done by a friend of mine, shows that 60% of those participants had African Mtdna, it was distributed as 60% African, 20% Taino, 20% Eurasian (Including north african and middle eastern). Remember this is mtdna , not percent of ancestry, just an ancestor, but nevertheless important.

I love the spiritual culture in Dominican Republic, that's were most of our history comes from. Our music is influenced from musica de palo, the first time I heard musica de palo was in my grandfather's backyard in D.R I was 7 years old, this music is in my blood.

Let me educate these people a little. unfortunately there are those who dont respect other people cultures or simply dont understand it. Dominicans are mostly a mixture of Africans, Europeans and some native indians (Mulatos). there're those who never got mixed, they're either pure white or pure black.we have the advantage of belonging to both worlds and one should be proud of it. Unfortunately there's ignorant people in the world still and people like them make the world the way it is today

But we as Carib Latinos, (Cuba, Dominican Rep. Puerto Rico and Venezuela do have an advantage of being multi-cultural. . We are 2 countries sharing the same border, that happens with colombians and venezuelan, mexicans and americans, trinidad and tobago citizens with venezuelans,etc. Just cause I have issues with somebody and that person turned out to be black doesnt make me a racist. There's a caste system in Latin and Latin-European countries. Slaves(Africans) were treated as scum and not wanting to be associated with "scum" many Dominicans of African ancestry don't want to embrace their African heritage, but I do. I am an American Blackman who, up until now, believed that people of the D.R. were racially balanced. Meaning, the color of ones skin didn't matter - from milk white to blue black, you were one. This is the place that my friends and I boasted on visiting to see this harmony. I guess I was fool to dream such a dream. Hopefully one day I'll find such a place that's void of the racial problem here in the U.S.A.
