George Brett should be calling out the cheap motherfucking bastard David Glass. David Glass is the real piece of shit reason the Royals suck. And that is the TRUTH!
Brett's right---he has the credentials to talk down to the media wanna-be's. Broadcasters are 'actors'.... they get paid to be 'experts' for a short period of time. Living the life of a baseball player for years is quite different than anything a broadcaster can experience. Brett paid his dues----I'm gonna listen to GB.
pretty much telling it like it is, sports writers today pretty much suck, not all of them but too many of them really have no idea what they are talking about. kansas city is a small market and in baseball that means you have a huge deficit in revenue, other sports even the chances with salary caps.
the only way sports fans can get the games they love back is to stop coddling the owners. stop giving private owners tax dollars. it's the only way to "occupy" pro sports again.
George Brett is expressing the frustration felt by any Kansas City Royals fan who has endured 20 plus years of losing baseball. He has tremendous credibility, having walked the walk and having given his heart and soul to the club in an outstanding hall of fame career. When you think of the Royals, you think of George Brett- and that's twenty years AFTER he retired. Having met him several times, i can tell you he is a real good guy- not like some of these "stars" who can't be bothered.
If your a sports fan and if you have listened to media interviews, questions, criticisms and what they write in the papers as long as I have, then you will agree with me when I say George Brett was way too lenient in telling them to fuck off. Media people are so fuckin stupid it seems like you can give a 5 year old the job and they would do much better at it. Literally
@armeny925 You're right. There is nothing wrong with it, BUT, at the time, when the team was playing that bad, it makes him look bad. Just look what eventually happened to Trey Hillman. He got fired. Everything Brett said in this video turned against him.
@Busbrain1 I think he was just trying to give a little hope and encouragement by being fired up. I think it hurts him to see how the Royals have been for the last number of years. How could it not when he's been the face of the team since the 70s? You think of the Royals you think of George Brett. I'm sure it's hard for him not to take it personal with all the consecutive bad seasons that's been going on for so long.
@armeny925 I see where you're coming from. However, if a former key player, like Brett, stands up and tries his best to defend a really bad team, it seriously makes him look bad.
I can't believe how many former Chiefs players defended the heck out of Herm and Carl. Obviously, those two are no longer with the team because of how bad they were.
I'm a realist and the alumnis are always biased, and as a fan, it does irritate me.
Damn what a cry baby rant, you can't compare this to losing your temper on the field. George Brett is immature. But unlike Milton Bradley he's white so it's alright.
I use to see George in palm springs during spring training he was having a affair with a friend of mines sister (she was 15 yrs younger), we would see him at the restaurants in town and she would let us know where they would be, he was good guy (not for cheating on his wife) but very approachable!!
When was this? George was known for being quite the ladies man when he was single, but I would've bet anything that once married he would've stopped playing the field. That's sad if it's true. He was single for the first 16 years of his career. He didn't get enough of a chance to meet and bang different girls without any obligation of fidelity? Now that he's married he still feels the need for strange? I guess I live in dreamworld thinking men should be faithful to their wives.
my family has been closse with the brett family and he is trying to set me up with his kids. he said that theres one of each age. one my age one a year older and one a year younger. lolz hes really nice and person. and my great grandfather ewing kauffman is the person who owned the kauffman stadium until his death. i never met him in person thoguh :(
Somebody help me out here because I'm a little guy that never played baseball beyond the age of 13 in the 7th-8th grade A league of the shit ass poot-wad/pupper-dup "give all the money to the cops" yankee town I grew up in-but (& underline the but about 3 times) How the fuck can gain and advantage by putting too far up (not too much-TOO FAR UP) on a baseball bat. Everyone knows it's a sticky adhesive too give a batter more grip and if anything it would cause the ball too either slip or not
@qttroassi you know pine tar ... If anything pine tar going too far up on a MLB baseball bat would probably cause the ball to either slip or actually loose some momentum if the tar was in between where the ball connected with the bat ???
I think in general, George is right about the media. I thought the media crucified former GM of the Chiefs Carl Peterson. You would've thought Peterson was the worst General Manager in the history of the NFL.( Holy Crap, seriously?) And their constant nagging of it quickly got the fans on their side. It's unbelieveable how the media can brainwash people. HAVING SAID THAT....George was wrong about Hillman. Hillman did suck.
George is right. The media doesn't know what it's talking about a LOT of the time, and write something just to write something, or to push their own agenda/point of view.
George is such a big baby. Cried in the doug out on numerous occasions, and now crying on the street. He even cried when they tried to take away his illegal home run due to too much pine tar on the bat. Geeesh! Mr. Hemroids, please be quiet from now on.
@ImOfNope"Doug out"? It's Dugout and I remember him being mad, not sad. "Hemroids"? It's hemorrhoids and over 50% of Americans suffer from them at some point in their lives. They didn't call him out vs. the Yankees on July 24, 1983 for too much pine tar on the bat. It was for having the pine tar more than 18 inches up the bat from the knob. Oh yeah, the Royals won that game when it was protested and replayed from the top of the 9th. Know what you're talking about or just "be quiet from now on".
@roymoberg Auh, you remember it well. 18" was correct. It was in the rule book and they let him slide. Did I spell all of that right? I know what I'm talking about. I just didn't say or spell it in the right way. Thanks for the correct interpretation though. 50% huh? You don't say. Ouch! Yup, George got the last laugh on us and that's okay, because we already got him two years in a row. Good day.
I shit my pants when we had the Royals down 3 games to 1 an they came back an beat us in game 7 at old exibition stadium in 85. That was a long f........ Train ride home.
Anyone who thinks he really shit his pants is a shit. Everyone knows he's a cut up. Didn't you see the other players. They knew he was shittin them. Pardon the pun. Did you know he used to spit tobacco juice on the legs of opposing players while he held them on 1st base. Hilarious. He had fun playing baseball. One of the reasons he's so great.
Gotta love a hall a famer who also defends his manager. He's probably also the only hall of famer to publicly talk about his various ass issues. Besides his candid conversations about having diarrhea in his pants, he also talked about battling hemorrhoids during the 1980 World Series.
I love a guy who tells like it is, does not put up with any shit from the low life media, hits .373 career World Series, .340 ALCS career with 9 hr, 3,154 hits, most intentional walks in AL history, hits .390 in a season, wins batting titles in 3 different decades, and busted his ass and gave 110% on the playing field. He also got 98% of the writers vote and was a first ballot Hall of Famer. They don't make many like the great George Brett.
Fold your tents there cupcake, your raiders have been a joke for quite some time. Hell, the only way you could make a run was with OUR quarterback. On top of that your "Glory Days" left with madden. But don't fret you may be a contender once more, one day....... When Al Davis dies. Until then have fun being the place where people's careers go to die or where talented young players can be destroyed by an overall lack of coaching. Your franchise is terrible.
So your telling me that darren mcfadden and bush and Nnamdi Asomugha and Gallery and fargas and luis murphy and zack miller are bad players? I don't think a lack of coaching is going to stop miller or any of those guy from being all pros. And just because I like them doesn't mean I like davis because i think he is a SHIT owner
Of course I'm not saying that. I'm saying that if they stay in Oakland they WILL be bad players in due time. Just ask Russell, Fabian Washington, Napoleon Harris, Michael Huff. Those guys were all first round if I remember right...
George seemed so satisfied with what he said that he must have felt like a million bucks afterwards. Lots of people don't know this but the media in smaller markets like KC are not top flight sharp writers. I live in New York and though people always talk about how the NY media is tough, many baseball players like Don Baylor have gone on record as saying that the New York media is among the most professional and respected in the country. There's more shit stirrers in small markets than in NY.
That was some anger. It's nice to see that George still cares about his former team, but I wonder if he would defend the front office people as much as he defends the manager here.
George is right! Hillman is a great manager, and if given some major league talent, he'd have the Royals in the playoffs. The manager of a ball club can only do so much with the talent he's got. The problem is that so many sports talk guys in KC don't really have any sports knowledge. They're basically just shock jocks. Jack Harry couldn't make it as a legit guy on TV anymore, so he's gone negative to try and milk a few more years out of his "career."
Yeah, and he was one of the greatest hitters of all time too. Don't act so self righteous with your inmature comments. Like you've never shit your pants before? You know you have. George Brett is the ONLY player in MLB history with a .300 average, 3,000 hits, 300 HR, 600 doubles, 100 triples, and 200 stolen bases. I think you should try to go through life appreciating other people's talent instead of trying to exploit them with juvenile things while at the same time being a hypocrite.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
not sure how my question was "self righteous" ...you americans sure have trouble with language.....sounds like both you and Brett have trouble keeping your bums clean...disgusting.
I think it is great George backs his manager so strongly. I just think his opinion would have carried more weight if he didn't cuss quite so much. He could have said the same thing with other words and it would have as powerful a statement, or even more powerful. His message was in there, it was just lost sometimes in between the "f" words.
He's right on about Kietzman, Harry and Stewart. I can't stand those first two guys because of their sensationalism and uninformed commentaries. They say stupid stuff for one reason: ratings. Zero integrity... ratings whores. Good job, George!
George Brett has always been my favorite player in baseball period. I have a whole book of cards, more than any other player. George Brett, thanks for saying what a lot of media needed to hear. Educate them on baseball if you have to.
What I can't wait for is when the media apologizes for the decades of crap reporting and then pulls the plug so I don't mistakingly channel surf over that sh*t.

He's right on about Kietzman, Harry and Stewart. I can't stand those first two guys because of their sensationalism and uninformed commentaries. They say stupid stuff for one reason: ratings. Zero integrity... ratings whores. Good job, George!

I agree but Jack Harry is the worst!

You suck more fucking dick than both of them.
millertime1224 2 years ago
While the Royals are not a great team. George does not suck. You are just jealous that he didn't play ball for your team.

George Brett has always been my favorite player in baseball period. I have a whole book of cards, more than any other player. George Brett, thanks for saying what a lot of media needed to hear. Educate them on baseball if you have to.
Props,
Brent from H-town
