a stage 2 wrx should be able to do a 0-60 run in about 4.5-5 seconds with the right driver. A stock M3 should be able to do about the same. But I don't think the M3 driver had a good start and the subie was definitely already in boost. trust me i have one. i love both of these cars and will definitely have an e 46 one day. those straight 6's are soo nice. the race would have been a lot closer with the right drivers
Not really, my stage 2 02 WRX makes a realistic 240whp and 230ft lbs on a dyno. Whereas the M3 would have somewhere closer to 290whp and 240ft lbs, plus its geared better.
The dyno #s really depend on which kind of dyno you use. Mustang dynos ALWAYS read low. A rwd car making 333bhp should not be pumping only 265whp, if it were AWD I could see there being that much drivetrain loss. They are both great cars, after this wrx bites the dust I intend to buy an alpine white e46 M3 :)

Those Subis are surprisingly quick. AWD is great, but I prefer RWD. You don't need to launch a car to go around a track. That race could have gone either way though, I've seen full bolt on M3s rape full bolt on Subis and vice versa. Both are great cars, especially in the hands of the right driver.
WRX are cool, but a bit pricey for the STi. I'd like it for the winter months where I live it snows a lot and the AWD would be handy. Though there are many AWD model BMWs out there and I've owned many types with straight 6 and V8 engines. BMWs are very reliable and well engineered. (have had a few with almost 300k miles on the OD). I'd just seen too many Subies in my area that need rebuilt motors with less than 120k miles... They just can't take a beating like a BMW and still run well over 200k.

The wrx is at a disadvantage here it has a 2.0 4 cylinder so its already short on displacement which means torque and cylinders. also if you are doing a roll and go awd vs rwd is a disadvantage because wrx has to put power to all 4 wheels thats why subaru top end is not good. and m3 comes with 333hp 04 wrx stock 224hp even with his stage 2 from cobb 04 wrx makes 285hp
@musa2011wrx most stage 2 wrx's wont make over 245 at the wheels with just stage 2 tune. mine sure doesnt. running catback, cobb access port stage 2 tune, intake. only put down 237 at the wheels. but much better over my 165 stock numbers.
i own an 06 wrx myself, and i know that sucker runs out of steam after 5k lol. i also know that given that M3 should to start pull past. at the end of the vid i looks like it had matched speed. but then again i dont have a stage 2 and have yet to experince it. but even still the numbers between the two stil favor the M3 IMO. Not hating here one bit. i love all and anything fast.

@TheVertro HP is nothing without torque. Flat 4 power all day... yea, but how about all year??? More cylinders means more mass means more torque and less wear to get the same HP numbers. @afgandominator I have owned 8 BMWs. Two of them I put close to 300k miles on and they still had high compression and no leaks. So if your kid broke his BMW at 70k, then he abused it.

@afgandominator I do drive my BMWs hard but I know how to take care of them. If I was going to drive like a grandma I'd get a cheap Hyundai or some other four banger that got me from point A to B. If a part starts to fail you replace it. Also replace fluids, timing belts, spark plugs, filters, etc... at proper intervals. Some people just drive their car into the ground with changing nothing more than their mind. ;)
@viggoM35a rwd bmw doesn't anything to do with an STi or stage 2 WRX from 0-60 lol. I had an STi before my stage 2 wrx and there are very few cars that will keep up through 2nd gear none that i ever came across for sure. i had a ka turbo 240 that would take both on the highway and 0-60 is a struggle to not burn rubber at that level.
The subaru has decent low-speed accelleration, but when the cars pick up speed, the m3 walks away from the scooby... after about 100mph... its plain sailing.
I find this hard to believe. I had a stage 2 wrx and down low it may have had a chance against the M3 but the stock turbo dies off pretty quick and the M3 just keeps pulling.
@seanwilliams78 I'd say more like 250/275. But keep in mind that's at the wheels. Not the crank. And look at an M3 power curve.. It's no surprise a stage 2 WRX beats it..

I just went stage 2 with my 02. Full turbo back, K&N SRI, and cobb AP Stage 2 map. I don't know if I'm over boosting, but the Cobb AP said I hit 17.3 PSI. What you guys been hittin on the stock turbo under stage 2? I know they claim 16.5 PSI and you should get 15.8 + or - .5 Just curious to what y'all get.
No I do not have BOV. Just the stock bpv. I think it's all good, I only hit 17psi in 4th gear. 2nd and 3rd are 16. Either way it seems to be runnin good.
I would stick with a bypass valve. The wrx's tend to have problems once you vent to atmosphere due to the change in air intake back to the system. If you change it over to venting to atmosphere then I would make sure you compensate for it with a custom tune. I run 11's in my wrx and I still run a bpv.
Yea I agree, I use the stock bpv. BOV's take away from turbo spool and cause you to run rich, even with a tune you don't gain anything but a cool sound(if your in to that). Right now I'm runnin a full turbo back, K&N SRI(which is almost identical to cobbs) and cobb stage 2 flash. It's got plenty of pep for me. Wouldn't mind an sti with that setup though.
Yea I have come to find that STi's aren't that much quicker when it comes to modding. They have more computer stuff and they have the fly by wire throttle instead of the cable driven system that my 03 has. It's just more simple on the 02 and 03's. The STi's are great but I would rather keep my 03.
Yea I like my 02 rex as well, but that STI is a bit more bullet proof, especially when it comes to the tranny. Next car is for sure an STI, preferably 05-07 models. But, I'm in no hurry.
Yeah to start but you can swap out the gears in the 02-03 models and be better off the sti 6 SPD you have to shift too often. I had an sti tranny and the gears are just too short. But hey to each is own.
Yea the gears are shorter, but much stronger which I like. It's really kind of a wash, the 5 speed requires less shifting but you don't accelerate through them as quickly, if your quick at shifting it's pretty much a wash for the same given horsepower. How many miles you got on your 03? mods?
50k miles, I have a gt30r kit 4 into 1 headers up pipe down pipe with electric cut out large tmic Cobb accessport running 18psi and cranking out 11's in the 1/4 and 400whp. I fucking love my wrx lol.

@kylepope519 If you are not modified properly for a BOV(specially for wrx's)you can cause damage to your car. For a stock wrx there is less amount of air than expected coming in from the intake and the blow off valve (if 100% atmospheric) will decrease the air to fuel ratio causing you to run RICH, this in turn can cause backfire and will not allow as much spool because of extra gasses left in the exhaust tract that were unburned because of this rich condition. And please don't call me retarded.

For your stock wrx there is less air in the intake tract than expected and you'll end up running rich between gears in turn causing backfire, which will also cause less spool because of extra gases left in the exhaust tract. That is why I said you lose spool from a BOV. Now if you have the right tune than its not a problem, but for the wrx's all you really gain is that sound that all the little boy's and girls like. No. As far as spool, I was referring to overall spool up, not response time in between shifts. As far as power numbers posted by Cobb goes. They're referring to their AP off the shelf maps, which are crap. Safe, but don't make any power. Get on NASIOC, look up what others have made.

@speckle1234 - Are we discussing the DESIGN of the interior OR the materials and quality? Two different things! If you think the BMW interior is boring, that's your opinion and you're welcome to it. I personally like the design of the BMW interior, but that has nothing to do with the QUALITY of materials between the two cars. Lastly, the reason I bought my Rex over the BMW is because I paid cash for my Rex, I own it outright. It's the best bang for the buck. I couldn't have paid cash for a E92.

@GKballinSTI The wrx is only on a td04 still, The M3 being N/A translates to a more linear power band but that is a small turbo it comes in and doesn't punch you at all. And probably still has about $7K in the wrx owners pocket. M3 is defiantly one of the most expensive cars to wrench on as well.

WRX curb weight 3100lbs

From a roll, assuming the WRX was in boost, it might be close. Otherwise, i'd say this video is absolutely staged.

The wrx is at a disadvantage here it has a 2.0 4 cylinder so its already short on displacement which means torque and cylinders. also if you are doing a roll and go awd vs rwd is a disadvantage because wrx has to put power to all 4 wheels thats why subaru top end is not good. and m3 comes with 333hp 04 wrx stock 224hp even with his stage 2 from cobb 04 wrx makes 285hp

i own an 06 wrx myself, and i know that sucker runs out of steam after 5k lol. i also know that given that M3 should to start pull past. at the end of the vid i looks like it had matched speed. but then again i dont have a stage 2 and have yet to experince it. but even still the numbers between the two stil favor the M3 IMO. Not hating here one bit. i love all and anything fast.

@afgandominator I do drive my BMWs hard but I know how to take care of them. If I was going to drive like a grandma I'd get a cheap Hyundai or some other four banger that got me from point A to B. If a part starts to fail you replace it. Also replace fluids, timing belts, spark plugs, filters, etc... at proper intervals. Some people just drive their car into the ground with changing nothing more than their mind. ;)

I had an STi before my stage 2 wrx and there are very few cars that will keep up through 2nd gear none that i ever came across for sure. i had a ka turbo 240 that would take both on the highway and 0-60 is a struggle to not burn rubber at that level.

I just went stage 2 with my 02. Full turbo back, K&N SRI, and cobb AP Stage 2 map. I don't know if I'm over boosting, but the Cobb AP said I hit 17.3 PSI. What you guys been hittin on the stock turbo under stage 2? I know they claim 16.5 PSI and you should get 15.8 + or - .5 Just curious to what y'all get.

I would stick with a bypass valve. The wrx's tend to have problems once you vent to atmosphere due to the change in air intake back to the system. If you change it over to venting to atmosphere then I would make sure you compensate for it with a custom tune. I run 11's in my wrx and I still run a bpv.

Yea I agree, I use the stock bpv. BOV's take away from turbo spool and cause you to run rich, even with a tune you don't gain anything but a cool sound(if your in to that). Right now I'm runnin a full turbo back, K&N SRI(which is almost identical to cobbs) and cobb stage 2 flash. It's got plenty of pep for me. Wouldn't mind an sti with that setup though.

Yea I have come to find that STi's aren't that much quicker when it comes to modding. They have more computer stuff and they have the fly by wire throttle instead of the cable driven system that my 03 has. It's just more simple on the 02 and 03's. The STi's are great but I would rather keep my 03.

Yeah to start but you can swap out the gears in the 02-03 models and be better off the sti 6 SPD you have to shift too often. I had an sti tranny and the gears are just too short. But hey to each is own.

Yea the gears are shorter, but much stronger which I like. It's really kind of a wash, the 5 speed requires less shifting but you don't accelerate through them as quickly, if your quick at shifting it's pretty much a wash for the same given horsepower. How many miles you got on your 03? mods?

@kylepope519 If you are not modified properly for a BOV(specially for wrx's)you can cause damage to your car. For a stock wrx there is less amount of air than expected coming in from the intake and the blow off valve (if 100% atmospheric) will decrease the air to fuel ratio causing you to run RICH, this in turn can cause backfire and will not allow as much spool because of extra gasses left in the exhaust tract that were unburned because of this rich condition. And please don't call me retarded.

No. As far as spool, I was referring to overall spool up, not response time in between shifts. As far as power numbers posted by Cobb goes. They're referring to their AP off the shelf maps, which are crap. Safe, but don't make any power. Get on NASIOC, look up what others have made.

Why do all these people think an e46 is so fast. A stage 2 wrx is generally a low to mid 13 sec car. an e46 is a high 13 sec car every single time I have seen one run.

My STi has cobb stage 2 ecu with a full exhaust and pulls hard all the way to 140 which is fast enough to still be pulling me n my seat.

funny thing about the video is that the wrx guy slowed down before the m3 was about to take him notice how towards the end the m3 stops going backwards and starts catching up and if the wrx has 300hp than it probably has about 250 to the wheels meaning the me would waste it cause it has 280 to the wheels

Cobb stg2 doesn't add that much power, my brother's bugeye wrx wagon is stg2 and my teg raped it when I was @ 275whp. E46 M3 stayed door to door with me.

That m3 would rape that wrx and dont get me wrong I am not choosing sides here i have a stage 2 wrx and there is no way that could happen unless the driver of the m3 is a total dumb ass. I have driven both cars and trust me the m3 would take the stage 2 wrx not to mention that the m3 puts out 40 more hp.

ur dumb, a stg 2 wrx is generally as fast as a stock sti. a stock sti is faster than an m3. which means wrx>m3. and a wrx would feel faster because the m3 has a more usable and smoother power band, where as the wrx, the power feels like it comes all at one time. you =fail

@GKballinSTI The wrx is only on a td04 still, The M3 being N/A translates to a more linear power band but that is a small turbo it comes in and doesn't punch you at all. And probably still has about $7K in the wrx owners pocket. M3 is defiantly one of the most expensive cars to wrench on as well.

@GKballinSTI a stock sti is not quicker than a stock e46 m3. m3 stock for de limiter from 155mph and the e46 will hit 186mph the sti will not.
the sti however does have more available mod potential. im talking about the uk versions of these cars the US versions differ slightly.
