  • Canada is good in Hockey LOL

Russia is good to beat Canada anywhere !

Almost all Canadians 10% winning games happened to be in Canada !

    Canada is homegames winners

Russia came in 2008 to Canada at 100 yrs anniversary of hockey

    and Fucked Canada

    Any Questions?

  • @wg390 Just 1 question - since the Olympics has allowed NHL players, Canada has won 2 gold Medals, Sweden has won 1 Gold medal and the Czech Republic has won 1 gold, how come RUSSIA hasn't won a GOLD MEDAL????? I bet they don't even win in the next winter Olympics in Russia.

  • @quincee33

Czechs and Finns stopped them. I don't think Canada will make it to medals in Russia, just like they didn't in Nagano and Torino.

  • @ardemua ya it's Gold or bust for Canada...if Crosby is healthy Canada should win the Gold in Sochi....... Russia has no excuse not to win the Gold at home. i'd say winning 50% of the gold Medals in Men's hockey is pretty good. That doesn't even include women's hockey. Is that hack in Washington still considered the best Russian? Ovechkin i think his name is?

  • from 1972 untill 1991 108 games played between USSR NATIONAL TEAM,USSR' CLUB TEAMS(CSKA,DYNAMO,SPARTAK.KRYLIA) and CANADA NHL TEAM AND BEST CLUBS(MONREAL,N-Y ISLANDERS,EDMONTON OILERS AND MANY OTHERS) THE OVERALL SCORE IS +58,-40,=10,GOALS 413-337 FOR USSR,90 %of that games were played in CANADA.IT is clerly showes that USSR TEAM HAD BETTER RESULTS AGAINST BEST NHL TEAMS IN THEIR HOME.EVERYONE CAN CHECK THE STATS,

  • I'll never forget how Tretriak played in the first period. The greatest goalie on one of the greatest teams of all time.

  • I remember this game. Man those Soviet teams were good. They just skated so fast and were so skilled.

  • Please don't let the swedish win any gold medals :,(

  • Vilket flipperspel vid till 0:31 till 0:40. Helvete vad dom måste ha tränat på det där mååånga många gånger. Läckert! Ögonen får inte nog av att se detta lag briljera.

  • wtf are they doing the russian play by play in someone's living room? lol

  • I am Canadian, but any Canadian that can't admit that Russia has had the best talent in hockey for the past 100 years must be missing some brain cells. Russia is to hockey what Brazil is to Football. Brazil doesn't always win the world cup, but they always have the best talent. Russia is the same!!! Thanks for posting this. I remember my dad picking the Russians to win this game. He took some heat from everyone, but as usual, my dad was correct. He cheered for Canada, but was always objective!

  • In Russia we believe the only worthwhile opponent is Canada. Nothing compares to Canada. Every game Russia vs Canada is a greatest challenge for our team. No one cares about Sweden or Finland. But Canada... Cournoyer, Esposito and Gretzky are the real heroes for Russians as well as Tretiak or Kharlamov.

Go Canada, go! I want you for Olympics Final in 2014.

  • @robertsteven Right. Now day we have talent but not a great team.Canada got more talents in last 20 yeare. But to be fair USSR 1970-1990 TEAM and CSKA club TEAM until 1990 was better teams ever to play this game,They got talent and thw were trainig for 360 per year,it is impossible to beta this kind of combination

  • @robertsteven The Soviets were the best in the early 80s of course ... but you can't deny that Canada has produced some pretty incredible talent ... Gretzky, Lemieux, Lafleur, Orr, Bourque, Patrick Roy, etc.

  • the funny thing was Canada actually outshot the Soviets in this game.

  • Remember watching this horror show in '81 when I was a kid...goalie Mike Liut had his worst game of his career!!

  • Overall Canada is the best hockey nation at the moment, but the Soviets OWNED our asses in the late 70s and early 80s.

    World Championships: 11-1, 8-1, 9-2 etc.

    Challenge Cup: 6-0

    Canada Cup: 8-1

Gotta tip my hat to that kind of dominance

  • @CHF2

Overall Canada never was the best hockey nation after USSR/Russia entered to hockey world.

Never ever. I respect Canadian hockey a lot

    But Canada never dominate Russia

    USSR/Russia did but not Canada

Canada wait 50 yrs to won another Olympic gold 1952-2002

    33 yrs WC 1961-1994

Sorry, I like your comment, but Russians simply more talented in hockey, it almost same like Brasil in football

Brasil didnt won all in football, but has best football players

    same about Russian hockey,

  • @CHF2

    FYI,

According to IIHF at this moment as of 02/25/2011 Russia is ranked 1st team in ice hockey

    Your beloved Canada 2nd one

  • Mike Liut really sucked balls that night of all people.

  • Canada sucks

  • @viktorkk1 Canada cups: Russia 1, Canada 4,

    thanks for coming out.

you know whats funny? ever since NHL players began to participate in the Olympics in 1998, Canada has 2 gold, czechs have 1, swedes 1, and Russia has a big fat zero.

not so easy to win Olympic gold when you can't do it against U.S. and Canadian amateur college kids ages 19-22 huh?

Its called "pick on someone your own size"

with the NHL ban since 98, Mother Russia will never again face off against college kids

  • @evanderlazer

What are you butt hurt after watching this?

This is the USSR not Russia. The two are not the same thing, but I can't expect you to know that...

The USSR played US and Canadian NHL players and embarrassed them many times, so what is your point?

You denounce the Olympics and the World Championships (when NHL players were allowed to play) during the USSR's times, while taking the Canada Cup, Canada's home tournament, above everything... how silly...

  • @unnamed00 shut the fuck up. And don't ever use the term "butt-hurt" ever again you fucking hick, you sound like an unfunny lame ass using that word.

And yes you stupid fuck, I know Russia and the USSR are not the same, but russia is a part of it and thats where over 90% of there talent came from anyways so that point is moot.

Anyways, Russia is never ever going to win Olympic Gold ever again, you know why? because 19-22 age u.s. and canadian college kids aren't there competition anymore

  • So looks like you are really butt hurt...

Yes most of the Soviet players were Russian, but I was not talking about that dumbass.

Russia does not play like the USSR and does not have as much talent by now. Russian hockey has been through a lot during the last 20 years.

It is not about not facing "college kids". As you can see in this video the Soviets could rout the best Canadian players.

  • @evanderlazer

Russia accomplish all in 53 yrs what Canada did in 100yrs in official hockey games

It is no doubt that Russian teams always better than Canadians.

It is no arguments, it is no doubts about it , Russia hockey country.

Russia great on the ice same as Brazil on football field

Canada was not just humiliated celebrating 100 years of hockey on their own territory,

but also were fucked by Russians according all hockey rules

FYI Canada lost olympic game to UK in 1936

    What a shame

  • @evanderlazer You must be proud of your post! Right? BUT Your post exactly whymany hate Canada hockey FYI The Soviet Union (Russia) did not enter an Olympic team until 1956 After that Canada won: 2 gold-2002, 2010 3 silver-1960,1992,1994 2 Bronze-1956,1968 Total:7 medals in 53 years Russia 8 golds 2 silver-1980,1998 2 bronze-1960,2002 According this your Canada are the BEST EVER? What a Joke ! Dont be rediculous be a man or be nothing So far for me you are a crying baby
  • @unnamed00 And don't try and change the subject. Russia was a republic of the old Soviet Union. And it still doesn't change the fact that over 95% of there talent pool dwelled within Russia to begin with.

How does it feel, knowing your country will never have an easy Olympic Gold Medal against canadian and u.s. anateur college students ages 19-22? it's not so easy to win olympic gold now huh?

winning gold in 2002 and 2010 vs "real" competition was sweet necter. We'll repeat in Sochi aswell

  • The Swedes, Finns, and Czechoslovaks did not have "college kids" in the Olympics back then, and the Soviets showed that they can dominate Canadian and especially the US NHL players. So again your argument is silly.

About 2014, don't forget that Canada failed to medal the times the Olympics were held outside of North America...

  • The only thing I will give a nod to was Vladislav Tretiak. The best goalie of all time. Other then that, Canada was and still is the top Hockey Nation.

  • I could watch this all day! What a team!!! My fave team of all-time. I think I own the only book ever devoted to this tournament, not a bestseller in Canada to be sure!!

  • what was the final score?

  • Final score was 8 to 1.

  • That has to be the worst goaltending in hockey history at this level - it's almost as if Liut was throwing the game or too scared to move - just disgraceful

  • Canada was asleep during this one.

  • imagine how good team Canada would have been if they had trained as a team year round like the Soviets ....

  • @infinitidal

The Soviets did not train year round...

  • @unnamed00 yes they did ...

  • No, you think you are an expert on the Soviets...

  • @infinitidal you forget about 1980 for USA, it was not a case of "training year round."

  • Great Soviet team, but Canada won more Cups then anyone, I believe we only lost twice.

  • The Canada Cup was a home tournament for Canada and Canada had many advantages over other teams, so it is not the only way to judge the best team.

  • @unnamed00

Not true at all. The Canadian players hardly played together in fact they didn't and had only a few weeks to get their act together. The Russian and other teams played together as a unit. None of the Teams complained that the tournament had advantages for Canada. They all came to win. Canada won in '72 and they won in Russia. They won in 76 and they won in Canada. They lost in 81 but then after they pretty well owned the cup.

  • There were plenty of complaints about the Canada Cup from many teams.

If team Canada did not play/train together more then it is their fault. It is not like the other teams played together year round...

The USSR only sent the best team to the Cup in 81, 84, and 87. In 87 they most likely would have won if the officiating was neutral like in 81.

  • @unnamed00 funny how you think that the only time the SOviets sent their best team was the ONLY time they won. your bias is too obvious. The SOVIETS ALWAYS sent their best. They never wanted to look bad in international competition and particularly against the best team ...ie Canada. Even training year round together and playing as linemates wasn't enough to beat Canadas best who came together a couple weeks before every tournament. You have to admit that Canadian teams are the best.

  • Once again you just repeat the same silly things.

Why don't you learn something about hockey history and then try to talk.

And don't accuse me of saying something I did not say.

  • @unnamed00 lets be honest here ... hockey history was born in Canada ... here in the west we were allowed to watch every game/tournament team Canada and team USSR played against eachother. Russians are famous for rewriting history to suit their propaganda needs ...

  • Many nations write history to suit themselves and Canada is a good example of that... Thanks for proving this once again!

  • @infinitidal Пропаганда говорите.Посмотрите фильм КРАСНЫЙ ОКТЯБРЬ Всеволода Кукушкина

  • @unnamed00 I agree!!!!!!! Remember also that the 1984 Canada Cup was the first major tourney post-Tretiak, and Fetisov (injured) didn't play, either. And, remember that the Soviets had never played an overtime game before, only to lose when its goalie was without his stick!!!! Even though I'm Canadian, Team Canada would seemingly "win ugly", while other teams would usually win with more grace. I miss the glory days; now NHL hockey is too much of a dump-and-chase game for my liking.

  • @babystinky

    Russia - Canada 1992 Olympic final 3 : 1

    Russia - Canada 2002 Olympic game 2 : 0

    Russia - Canada finals 2008,2009 5:4,2:1

  • @NanoTechStone1

Once again. The Olympics began allowing pro hockey players since 98. The only team to have won twice so far, is Canada. We won in Salt Lake and We won in Vancouver. Canada is repeating their superiority as they did in the Canada Cup. They will loose a few here and there, but with All the Best Players Playing, they will consistently win more then any other nation bar none.

  • @babystinky If Canada didn't win more than other countries I'd be worried as hell. When excluding Americans Canada has more registered hockey players than the rest of the world combined. So I'd give Russia a big respect for their success even though the size of their player pool isn't that big to choose from.

  • @Europemanx

Actually, Canada has a very low population from which to choose players. Canada has about only 33 million people. So out of that number, excluding the elderly, women and children the sick and those over 40, your not left with a huge number of people.

  • @babystinky Well that still doesn't change the fact that Canada has the biggest player pool in the world and when excluding USA Canada has more players than rest of the world combined.

  • Comment removed

  • @Europemanx : Well to my mind Canada is off course one of the greatest teams in hockey, you just have to look at the impressive pool of great players they have at the moment, but the Russians/Soviets had and have many unbelievable players at well, just think of fetisov, kasatonov, larionov, makarov, krutov, kharlamov, fedorov, bure, petrov and so on ;) Or actual stars like ovechkin, gonchar, malkin, datsyuk, kovalchuk etc.

I'd love to see more Russians in the hall of fame ;)

  • @gangstarr92

Canada wait for 50 years to won another Olympic Gold 1952-2002

Canada wait for 33 years to won another WC Gold 1961-1994

Please dont be asshole about your "Greatest Canada"

Please be human being not your canadians hockey apes players

Face a true and dont bullshit about your Canada

  • @wg390 : I said they are ONE OF THE GREATEST ;) I'm a huge fan of soviet and russias hockey, but canada had and has great players as well ;)

  • @NanoTechStone1

Try and count tournaments where all the best players from the World are Playing.

  • I think Canada won the first game between them 7-3. But CCCP was however great! Many things would be better if that old system did prevail. Well, at least for some people.

  • wow 8 to 1. Its either the Russians were too good that day or the Canadians were to shitty.

  • they should have throwned in the Towel......instead of beeing embarressed.

CCCp Team was was still using Anabolic steroids for their flag waving at that time

  • @dellotti

    Steroids?? Bad excuse...

  • @dellotti Cant believe you people still to this day do not realize that all those excuses and stereotypes were western propaganda.

  • russians was actually hugging each others even in 1981

  • That that was iin Vancouver it is trifles in comparison of a victory of Russia for 100 years of hockey in Canada. Russia the Champion

  • @dimonil4ik thats a lopsided score Canada the best..you know it dont lie!

  • haha, is that guy lafleur at 2:34? wow, what a chicken shit. so uncanadian.

  • Comment removed

  • To be honest, I miss the old days when Russia/USSR had a competitive team. It was a great rivalry, but it seems now that Russia has been eclipsed by USA as Canada's main challenger. Or Sweden even, in terms of talented players. USSR cant be called "dominant" in the 70s when Canada beat them in 72 and 76. But they won a couple themselves. Now its the cheesy Yanks. Just not the same.

  • There have been many changes in Russian hockey since 1991 and Russia is just not nearly as good team wise as the USSR was...

And for the 76 Canada Cup the Soviets did not send all of their best players and got third place like they expected.

  • @TheDaddyCokes I do too. It just isn't the same somehow. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because the Russians were/are as passionate about hockey as we are; in the US it's just another sport, and the No. 4 one at that. I think a lot has to do with the US attitude though, at least through these postings. A lot of what they say smells too much of that archetypical "we're the best of course we win and if we don't it doesn't matter because it's not important anyway."

  • @TheDaddyCokes

Beating the Russians was satisfying, and not to be taken for granted. Beating the Yanks is necessary, because if you don't, geez do they crow about it! If the Russians beat you they were gracious about it. The Americans rub your nose in it. Maybe that's the difference? The games are nastier now. Gudge matches. And I don't like that.

  • @TheDaddyCokes in which world do you live ? Russia eclipsed by USA ? it s not because Canada was the lone team to defeat russia in Olypics that US are better. for my point of view Canada is the best rival of russia but acctually russia have no real problems for the 3 last years. but it s right Soviets was better because they played altoghether all years. now all player play in different team and it make a big difference. but the old canada team with gretzky, lemieux.. was better than the actual

  • Man! The USSR team, and the KLM line was so dominant it was ridicoulus!

  • subtitles please?

  • 1972 win is the smile of lady Luck and lack of expoerience of USSR team head coach no more. You would have no chances if Anatoly tarasiv wasn;t released from being head coach before the serie.

I think that win is no more than the smile of lady Luck because it's the only big win of your national team for doxens of years.

The next one i can remember is 1994 WC in Italy, but it happened just after USSR ruined.

2 big wins for 25 years it's very cool surely )))

  • Like I said Russia is not on the same level as the USSR was.

There have been only 5 tournaments where Canada's and the USSR's best played. The USSR won the 79 Challenge Cup and the 81 Canada Cup in blow outs. Canada won in 72, 84, and 87 in very close games. However in 72 there was a lot of controversy with the way Canada played and in the Canada Cups the Canadians had many advantages. In the final game in 87, referee Koharski was like team Canada's MVP...

  • @unnamed00 You know, between 1976 and 1984 the NHL devolved into a "Slap shot" type beer and pizza league. It was after the era of Bobby Hull and Bobby Orr, and before Gretzky and Lemieux. As for the refereeing, if the Soviet pros can pose as amateurs and win Olympics (except in 1980)...

Still, it took the 1979 and 1981 losses for Hockey Canada to finally take the situation seriously.

  • At that time all non-NHL players were allowed in the Olympics (Czechoslovaks, Swedes, Finns, Germans), not just the Soviets.

  • So it was a lot closer than you think.

Canada is better than Russia has been, but not the USSR.

  • Man it was 40 years ago. Forty! Name me one more win of brave Canada team outside north-american ice , without home rinks, spectators and own refferees for the last 38 years.

  • @GaurMiaur

Let's count the number of tournaments that the Soviets or Russia have won in which every country can ice their best team...That would be the Olympics since Nagano, The Canada Cup and The World Cup of Hockey (previously the Canada Cup)...Don't worry you won't need a calculator...Cheers!

  • @chichigord Dude, the canadian fan knows tons of excuses for defeats. Its like this: Canada won? We had our best players! Canada lost? We didnt have! Canadas olympic victory over Russia was obviously the first big and clean real victory by canada over russia in hockey history. Ya, you cant count SS72, CC76/87 and you know why, at least every hockey fan knows why, i dont have to tell you.

  • @GaurMiaur

Funny how you never hear the Americans complain about the officiating when they lose to Canada...Go ahead and tell us how that 7-3 schooling Canada gave the Russians in Vancouver was the result of biased officiating...Ovechkin said it was like when little boys play big boys and the big boys dominate...Well said OV...I think I'll take the opinion of the best player in the game today over some Internet whiner...Cheers!

  • Moscow 2007

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like you're going to have to rewind this one again...But don't worry, it looks like the NHL may be out of the Sochi Olympics, so Russia can win gold medals in hockey once again...Cheers!

  • @chichigord, very interesting comment indeed.

  • Well yes maybe the Russian coaches can watch this (you know like the Canadians did many times) to see how to play team hockey.

  • @unnamed00

Welcome to the NHL Russia. How do you like having to throw a team together in less than a week? It's not easy, eh?...Even when you have a lot of the world's best players...

  • Team Russia was not just thrown together. Many of the players played together during the last few WCs, and some played together for years (Morozov line). So the problem is not as simple as having to have to throw a team together...

  • We will win gold medal anyway. The only worthy canadian win outside their home ice happened 1972 ))))

Since the you lose or even afraid to try.

  • best hockey game!

  • @Audioquest56, counts by whom?

  • Canada cheated in the 1987 game against USSR. I've seen the replays a USSR player was tripped twice and no penalty was called. I know the referees did not see it, I'm not arguing that. But Canada did cheat, because you are not allowed to trip someone. It really baffles me when people say Canada fairly.

  • @thefutureboom

they didn't cheat, there were things missed going both ways.

  • SaintDemetrio да, ты прав наша молодежь звезду поймала, так же как канадцы в 72г. наступили на те же грабли, сейчас вообще в современном спорте в полсилы не кого не обыграть, пусть, в следующий раз будут умнее.

  • Ha Ha Ha, I love the defending at 2.35. The Russian fakes a slap shot and the Canadian defender is so afraid he hides at the board giving the Russian an ocean of ice to score a goal. That's awesome, lol. Man if that happened today his career would be over. Btw I'm not Russian but just think it's hilarious since the Canadiens are usually famous for their big hockey hart =)

  • канадцы в очередной раз отсосали

  • На этот раз, увы "отсосала" наша молодежка. Уважать соперника надо!

  • Молимся за Быкова!

  • Seriously, you talk about not bringing heart and desire to a game. Potvin looked like garbage on one of those goals. Trottier was a great NHL player but he cannot play the Soviet's type of game. Same goes for Gillies and Duguay. The players who needed to step up in this game were vets like Perreault, Lafleur and Dionne. Even Danny Gare.

  • Uh, ya.

Apparently, Team Canada got killed in this one.

Also, I'd have to say that some of those goals allowed by the Canadian goaltender(s) were fairly suspect at times...

  • Nice hit by Krutov !

  • Canada looked about as bad as it ever did in hockey history in this game. I recall Canada beating USSR 7 - 3 or something in the Round Robin. I also remember Guy Lafleur laughing at the camera after Liut let in the 5th goal or so. I also remember Canadian players being told not to "try so hard they get hurt for the NHL season". What a stupid bit of advice that was. This team got embarrassed by the Soviets and Canada should never forget this moment of humility.

  • mike liut was playing very well for the blues at that time.

  • USSR hockey team are the BEST for ALL-TIME

  • @AndruhaUkraine

No way. They lost in '72 when Canada was an out of shape team. They couldn't win as many Canada Cups when players like Wayne Gretzky show up. Not to mention Mario Mario Lemieux. HOw many players from other countries top the scoring in the NHL? Look at the records and the dominating performances by Canadian players in the NHL. How many players from the USSR or any other country come close to those records?

  • Great names! bring back memorys.

we in sweden allways lost against ussr back then,, but how beutiful they played.

If this game had been on big ice the score would have been the double

  • Wow ! Us as Canadians had a verry good lesson of hockey by them. They were just too much better than us in 1981.

Nice talent to see and remember !

  • thats liut in net?? what happened?

  • What? Liut was Canada's #1 that year.

  • Krutov's goal = AWESOME.

  • Canada was completely and utterly out-coached in this tourney. When we played them in the first round (round-robin), Tikhonov put Myshkin in net and Canada cruised 7-3 in a meaningless game. But we thought it was decisive - we had the Soviets' numbers. In the Final, Tretiak asserted himself in the second period and we collapsed. It was and still is the greatest old-fashioned butt-kicking we ever suffered. It was the only time we let our heart (our greatest weapon on the ice) break.

  • dude that was just gay

  • Wasn't the Canada team here half Oilers and half Islanders?

  • Well like half the team were either Oilers or Islanders.

  • @Oilblood87 I think Gretzky was the only Oiler there in 1981. In 1984, the team was mostly Oilers and Islanders.

  • I forget is USSR the Soviet Union?

  • Yes the USSR is also called the Soviet Union.

  • O.K. Thanks. It's hard to believe they were that good to defeat Canada 8-1 and Sweden 13-1 and now you hardly hear of them it's just Canada and Russia or Canada and USA and Canada and Sweden.

  • Well don't you know that the USSR broke up into 15 countries, one of which is Russia.

  • sundin456 youre a fucking retard

  • Yeah how.

  • Sundin456

    Your comment perferctly good here.

You just proved how great canadians fans.

    Total IDIOTS

Go to kindergarden but not canadian one, but USA one.

USA is not idiots but canada is

  • USA Isn't idiots LMFAO YOU ELECTED BUSH FOR YOUR PRESIDENT YOU FUCKING IDIOT!!!! Lets not forget for the juniors in Ottawa when USA was leading 3-0 against Canada what happened? You got smoked 7-4.You Americans are typical.

  • Sundin456

I forget is you gay for money or gay just because you Canadian ?

Whole world knows that canada is gay country !

Sundin456 when you watching this video and you gay lover fucking your asshole you excited? LOL

  • And your just jealous that we have like the friggin most gold medals in hockey.

  • The USSR national team of 81 is the most superior hockey team ever. 7-1 in this final and 13-1 against Sweden in the IHWC final earlier the same year.

  • The Soviets showed some class not rubbing our noses in this one. Canada stunk big time. Good thing this game is an anomaly. It seems to me in retrospect that Canada loses when there's inadequate preparation, or just plain lack of respect for an opponent. The skill and talent are there, but it still comes down to playing as a team. Especially in the big games.

  • Well the Canadians had a lot of preparation time for this tournament and played well as a team until the second period of this game.

  • pod orex razdelali. Slezy na glazax....

  • Best Canadian Players: 1. Joe Sakic 2. Brett Hull 3. Scotty Niedermeyer 4. Andy Brunette 5. Maurice Richard Best Russian Players: 1. Federov 2. Ilya Kovalchuk 3. Samsonov 4. Khabibulin 5. Mogilny
  • Dude, are you serious? Samsonov?

Just because these are the latest players you've seen, doesn't mean they are the best.

  • 1) Harlamov

    2)Krutov

    3)Tretyak

    4)Larionov

    5)Petrov

    6)Mihailov

    7)Fetisov

    8)Ovechkin and so on ... u r not correct ...

  • Fuck Brett Hull!!!!

  • 1. Gretsky 2. Lemieux 3. Sakic... 1. Larionov 2. Makarov 3. Fetisov 4. Kharlamov 5. Mikhailov... and somewhere close to these 5 are Khomutov and Ovechkin.

  • and well... I forgot Pavel Bure. He should be in the top 10.

  • You don't even know how to spell Gretzky lol

  • Да....Были времени, когда для выявления сильнейшей хоккейной команды мира требовалась всего лишь, что бы Канада и Россия встретились лично. Один на один.

  • what an ass kicking we got- the klm line was incredible

  • KLM line. Larionov and Makarov went on to have good careers in the NHL but Krutov didn't work out in Vancouver. Too used to playing on the same unit through his career. The Soviets would often play units of 5 players all the time.

  • Hey, get serious. You canadiens shouldn´t have won neither 1972 nor 1987. In 72 you cut off the best soviet players leg, and in 1987 you had all the referees on your side. The soviets were better both these years.

  • I totally agree.

  • ...The Soviets had the refs on their side big time in 72, certainly in Russia. But that didn't seem to matter in the end... Too much heart on the Canadian team. And 87 ... Gretzky to Lemieux... The two best players to ever play this game... Ya, I think we "shoulda" won that one as well and evidently we did.

We are and always will be the best hockey nation on the planet. Deal with it. lol

  • All the referees on our side???

That was the situation for the 1972 Soviets in Moscow.

  • I don't take any of the Canada Cups seriously. Even the 1981 Cup. It's amazing how the Soviets dominated that year though, despite the blatant refferee bias. Tells you a lot about how good they were. It's ridiculous though that an entire tournament is to be played on one of the team's home ice - that's nonsense. After losing this, Canada made sure to do everything in their power to never let this happen again and resorted to really dirty tricks in 1987.

  • indeed you cant take the canada cups too seriously..the refeeing was often a joke .....

obviously the soviets would have won in 87 if the refs would have been neutral.

in canadas defense you have to remember that they didnt have much time to practice as a team. (compared to the soviets)

  • Truly the most embarrassing international game ever played by Canada. The defense in this game was non existent for goalie Mike Liut, and he himself played poorly. After the Soviets played possum and lost an earlier game to Canada 7-3, the Canadians underestimated how hard the Soviets would play the final. One of those games where they weren't mentally prepared and nothing went their way. This began the process of positive change, Canada winning all but one of the next 5 World Cups.

  • hi is emreesded passed my histofy of exam

  • LOL. Liut was nominated for awards that year? He played horrible, as did the defense. A good Jr team could have beaten Canada on this night, and I'm not exagerating.
