@Vanacus I never really animated it to the point where I could argue this over your own idea, but I think of them as people that each kind of represent the mundane to awesome hopes, ideas, and ideals any single person has. The trip pills try to water those out, and the one girl who fights back is like DETERMINATION itself trying to stamp that out.
