also this is the most biased thing i have ever seen. you make it sound like BC is finding out where all the gay kids live on campus and burning crosses outside their dorms. Learn to live in the world that you're in. Work to make it better, sure, but don't bitch about shit that you know won't change.
I go to BC and have a few things to say. If you think the school isn't accepting of gays, I don't know what you were expecting. Sorry we don't have gay fiestas in the quad everyday where we go around blaring daft punk and complaining about the "heterosexist" school we attend. Don't go into a large place like BC with all of its history and think you can change it with BS youtube videos. Gays always have something to complain about. Would it not be weird if the school was filled with transgenders?
I do not get this at all. There are PENTY of colleges where gay students and organizations are tolerated, recognized, funded, encouraged, exalted and treated like a privileged caste. In fact, it's hard to find a college where this isn't the case. So if you want to be an open, militant, recognized and a specially honored gay person, why go to Boston College? Sounds like these students have an axe to grind with Catholicism. They're not looking for acceptance, they're looking for a fight.
i recently visited bc and the jesuits described the school as extremely open and accepting of who you are, regardless of sexual orientation. i don't know if bc has changed since 2007, but for those who say that lgbt students should know better than to attend a catholic university, keep in mind that bc claims to welcome the lgbt community. students are not expected to be catholic at bc, but to be respectful and caring of others. im disappointed to see that bc contradicts its teachings.
I am an epic liberal from a jesuit high school in San Francisco (frosh now at BC). What I started to befriend the administration or jesuits at my HS, a lot of my views of the overpowering administration lowered. I had to learn that as a jesuit school, we had to follow the Catholic teachings. I did, however, have a sexuality class that would have given the pope a heart attack. Keep rockin on!
How ironic that people call you whiners, and yet they whine when they do so....
clearly the point isn't to represent the majority of BC student opinion, but to represent alternative opinions so one can have a more plural understanding of what it's like to attend BC
If you're gay why are you going to Boston College? It's their institution, they're not using any taxpayer money, and I'd guess most of the people paying tuition at that school don't condone homosexuality in any way shape or form. Got a problem with that? Go to Emmerson.
BC is a private school. BC is a Catholic school. Exactly why are people confused, and indignant, when the university chooses not to overtly support groups/causes which conflict with it's teachings? They knew BC was a private, Catholic school when they chose to go there. BC is not preventing anybody from being or doing what they choose. This is like insisting that a pro life group provide support to the pro choice cause (or vice-versa).
Well that wasnt too biased/ boring. I hate that a group of kids decide that they want to badmouth BC as some crazy Catholic school. You knew it was Catholic and you know the church's stance; why is there such a surprise when the school follows its catholic identity.
If close-mindedness,hate, hypocrisy, and unacceptance are all part of the Catholic identity, I want no part of it. Maybe we should look around BC's campus and see how TRULY biased it is. Ask those who side with a sexuality, religion, or viewpoint that is not considered "the norm" at BC, if THEY think BC is biased. It is sooo easy for us (the majority) to say "get over it." BUT we don't have to deal with these things everyday.
God Damit it sucks that I moved to Florida i was on the campus everyday with my friend from Newton! That place was the best it also sucks that you guys have been in the championships twice in the last 2 years for hockey and won 0 Times!!! Best of luck next year, is Cory(the goalie) still on the team next year?
Martin Luther King implored us to judge people "not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." True justice will not come at BC or anywhere until all people, both liberal and conservative, can learn to treat human beings as the unique individuals that they are, and not merely as segments of racial, gender, religious, or other categories.
why are these views "pretty extreme?" As a current BC student, these issues are a big part of university life that are NEVER mentioned on the "official" tour. Its easy to say certain views are "pretty extreme" when all you are told is the sunny side of things. Thanks to all who made this video, and I hope any prospective BC students will take the time to watch it.
