I know that the U.S. sold Saddam chemical weapons but not as much as Russia, France, China, and Germany, they were Saddam's main weapons suppliers. The reason why we supported Iraq in the war with Iran was because of what Iran did to our hostages, but after what Ayatollah Khomeini chanted and did when he gave support to Saddam the U.S. turned their support to Iran giving them TOW anti-tank missiles.
