Esta interpretacion me parece la más sublime de las que escuchado, la de Yepes la más perfecta y formal, y la de Paco de Lucía la que más emociona y transmite. Por eso, me quedo con la de Paco, y Rodrigo así lo comentó también.
The intro is done by an English Horn, not an oboe. The oboe has a straight bocal, or actually, no bocal at all as the double reed fits directly into the instrument. The English Horn, much like the bassoon, has a curved bocal which fits into the instrument and holds the double reed.
La interpretación es excelente aunque en el 1er compás el pulso de Sr Williams es algo más rápido que el que le marca el director a la solista del corno inglés.
John Williams here performs his spanish guitar tablature at highest level as Maestro Yepes, Maestro Rodrigo or Paco de Lucía. Playing here guitar he "feels" as a spaniard, he transformed his whole being into a spaniard, long time abroad, missing his Country and the gardens of Aranjuez. Incredible how an anglosaxon player can love Spain. Only if you love Spain can you play spanish guitar like this.
Anglosaxons and germanics have Spain as favourit touristic resort. They love us and we love them.
Remember this song can be only played on spanish acoustic guitars and not any acoustic guitar (for example, hawaian ones) because our guitars (I'm spaniard, yes) are solid, they are completely hollow and 100% wood.
Williams's model is the best and most known choice of a spanish guitar: The Admira Juanita. It's very popular and a must have for flamenco players and, of course, guitar concerts such as this "Concierto de Aranjuez".
It's the best non-spaniard spanish guitarrist I've ever seen.
Viva Rodrigo! Viva España!
May I suggest, that if someone don't like perform of John Williams, but like Yepes a lot, to write it in other place, under perform of mr. Narciso, for example, I think it's better way. Cause if I prefer Williams, I'll write it here, and I'll not write "Yepes is worst" no matter, what I think.
nunc.. is being a bit disengenious when he claims that JW cant play the chords at 7:54 as he well knows he does it on the other version impeccably.I bet if his False God Yepes made this change he would be raving about it.
There is a posted video of Pepe Romero where he explains more aspects abput the concierto de aranjuez, if you´re interested you should see it, especially if you actually believe this is a good version.
WTF? he modified the rasgueado, look in minute 7:54. I didn't like that at all, that part gives me the chills when it's performed by yepes or paco de lucia, I can´t decide which one of those two is the best, but I have to say that this version is inferior to both of them.
Not only that, compare his slow, uneven trill at the end to the sublime, perfect embellishments of Yepes. Williams also doesn't have the dynamic & coloristic range of Yepes, the cantabile tone, sense of rubato, or feeling for polyphony. Why did the guitar world not notice they worshipped false idols like this (& still do others) players good enough in a conventional sense making few mistakes but whose music is all a mistake: bland, asleep, characterless?
Absolutely. THANK YOU! I'm not the only one who notices these things. How can they continue to claim JW is so wonderful and Yepes so awful when Yepes plays with such profound musicality and technical mastery and Williams cannot even manage the final rasgueado (at 7'54"), which he plays an octave lower than it should be (because the written chord is too difficult for him, but NOT FOR YEPES!)
For one, Williams' fingering is so conventional, it's boring. He does not come close to the coloristic shading of Yepes. The guitar, under his fingers, seems somehow smaller, less significant, than the robust, full-voiced guitar of Yepes. Yepes belongs with the orchestra. Willaims seems out-of-place.
Williams cannot even play the strummed chords at the end of the cadenza. He plays them an octave too low, but Yepes plays them correctly and with enough volume to rival the orchestra. Also, Yepes's embellishments (ornaments) are far superior, particularly the trill at the end. Williams is downright feeble.
are you serious??? yepes is sloppy.... compare the first mov of aranjuez williams vs yepes...... it's very clear that yepes.... is off rhythm.... noisy.... and not as musical.... he's an embarrassment to guitarists... if other instrumentalists heard him they'd think... very sloppy.... very unmusical.... awkward........ just my honest opinion
You make me laugh. Compare the 2nd and 3rd movements. Williams has neither the technical mastery of Yepes (the clarity and precision of extended, prestissimo trills and embellishments) - he cannot even play the final rasgueado chord of the cadenza as written and has to do it an octave lower - nor does he come close to having Yepes' musicality, sense of drama, colour, tempo rubato etc.
I would agree with you that Yepes is "an embarrassment to guitarists". I think he caused guitarists great embarrassment considering how he totally blew all the heroes of the guitar out of the water, utterly surpassing them in technique and musical understanding. The fact is, it is mainly guitarists who have such opinions like you; non-guitarist musicians held Yepes in far higher esteem than other guitarists.
I agree Yepes is in a camp with some other irritating Spanish/Catalan artists who through their achievements spoiled things for so many. Casals springs to mind immediately...
Beautiful and perfectly technical. If you compare with the Paco de Lucia version (or almostany other version), you can easily notice that Williams version is cleaner. There are no notes missing and the quality of each note is consistently good even in the difficult parts.
I am very sorry your father died. Have you heard this song sung bu Amalia Rodriguez? It is fabulous! I heard it when one of my professors put it us and told us to think of something. Thanks for posting it!

Pepe Romero isn't authority for Williams, who is competitive for Segovia. And for me it's the best performance ever.

To me, this is way behind Paco de Lucia's perfomance.
