  • o: I want one! Or one of the small creatures from the beginning.

  • At the end, he finally learns to fly...

  • evolving dancing creatures!

  • It's good that these creatures are made of blocks... It's very interesting though... Imagine these like real creatures: Abomination! :-)

  • Congratulations, your elephant creature evolved to stand on it's trunk.

  • i love it and when they got bigger thier shadows look like dancing jestors

  • Amazing

  • @DownUnderDoug Thanks! This is one of my favorites :)

  • when i press go in evolution it just shows a red box that doesn't move

  • @videonfan Uh oh. The infamous red block. I know exactly what you're talking about. It usually means there's a file or folder that's missing or corrupted. Here's what you can do...

    Load your evolution

Use "browse history" to see how far back you have to go before the creatures load properly (try to find a generation right before the problem started)

Quit 3DVCE, open your .evolution file with notepad, and change the 2nd number in the file to that generation number.

  • Alternatively, send me your .evolution and the accompanying folder. I could try to fix it.

  • if i get this and learn to makes games i will use creatures i make in this program in my game :D

  • @videonfan That's a pretty interesting idea!

  • Gotta resort to seldom used parlance here. Simply put, I find this video Quite Lovely.

  • @patienceking Thank you :)

  • This one reminds me of a creature I evolved awhile ago that was lost to a corrupted file. :P

  • @Noctokage I've lost some that way too. Frustrating. That little horselike creature from way back in the second video I ever posted here was lost that way. I'd love to do a follow up on that one, but alas it's gone :(

  • @kjlg74 I've lost a couple that way, only one of them I'm upset about though. Like I said, this one of your reminds me of it, but only in it's movement. I haven't seen anything on here or in your Zoo similar to the creature I evolved, I was about 2 days from submitting it when I lost it. It was slightly depressing lol.

  • unsymmetrical creatures can later become symmetrical?

  • @BananaftRu Yes, if the right mutations come along, and those individuals are successful and/or lucky, etc. In this system it can happen. Usually it doesn't, but this population is so tiny that the creatures change drastically fairly often.

  • the creature at 2:00 looks more like it's doing a handstand :)

  • @TheReasonWhyGuy Yeah, I see what you mean. It does a little.

  • looks spider'ish for a while...

  • Very nice, and the music fits perfectly!

  • @newcoleco Thanks! :)

  • That last jump was pretty epic. I had a similar set up only with a population of 80. Mine didn't turn out nearly as interesting though. Just a worm that balanced its self on a tail and then jumped. I'll have to try again.

  • @MaestroAlvis It seems at least half of the runs produce relatively dull creatures (in my opinion). I haven't yet really gotten selective about which creatures I'll record and post on the channel - so the distribution of creatures in the videos is fairly representative of what the program produces. I'd say, if it doesn't look interesting by about generation 30, abandon and start fresh. That would be my rough rule of thumb.

Oh, and I switched gravity off during that last jump :P

  • @kjlg74 How do you change gravity? I never saw anything about that in the tutorials.

  • @MaestroAlvis Sorry about that. It's quite likely that I didn't cover everything in the tutorials. Gravity is under the Settings / Physics menu, if I recall correctly, or just press CTRL-G to switch it on or off. You'll hear a little noise to indicate that you've changed it.

  • can you use the programme to show how a real animal might evolve to look in 12k generations?

  • @MrStripyHead Pretty much, although since the fitness is based on values and not actual survivability your creatures will be good at what you tell them to be good at. Like making high jumps, for example. Or moving quickly or as far as possible in a given time.

  • @MrStripyHead Depends what you mean. If you mean a "real animal" in the sense of body shape and so on matching an existing real-world animal, then no, these block-shaped bodies are just too simplistic. Too alien.

If you mean "real" in the sense of letting a whole population inhabit the world together and live/eat/fight/mate/die/reproduce and so on, then yes, it could be done but I didn't program that because it would run *way* too slowly.

  • @kjlg74 i meant real animals, that would be cool to see

  • wow.... this is awesome

  • @keysle Thanks, keysle!

  • That was poetry in motion, very exotic creature... excellent choice of music!

I've had the 3DVCE up and running, all is sorted out, I'll have fun with this!

    Thanks Lee! :)

  • @rgman66 Thanks! I usually put a bit of effort into finding music that seems to fit.

Be sure to send any interesting creatures you might evolve my way :)
