  • I want to bring my dog on a trip soon. I noticed you put Maddy's food in the pack, not in your food pack/barrel. Has dog food ever been a problem for critters on your trips?

  • Y is there a little door in the background

  • Just wanted to say thanks for all of your extremely helpful videos. My bud and me are going on a 15 day trip to the boundary waters on june 10th and I honestly didn't know what to bring at all. Luckily i stumbled upon your videos and completely outfitted our entire trip based on your gear and food walkthroughs (with a few modifications to make it more affordable). Now were ready to go. Thanks again. Maddythegoose rocks!!

  • lmao i love the door lol so funny to me

  • yea really whats up with the little door? does it go to Narnia?

  • @verbillion91 lol, Naria. That's crazy talk. It goes to the Shire.

  • did you say what kind of pack that is???

  • @djSpinege It's an Arcteryx Bora 80. Pretty big pack but it does the trick for all occasions and is tough as nails. At some point I'll likely get a smaller pack for the weekend trips but to be honest the extra size and weigh doesn't bother me on canoe trips.

  • Have you ever filled that bag? I have never filled mine. Its like the Mary Poppins bag.

  • @LukeWarmHand I have filled it on an eight day solo trip with Maddy. The extra food, fuel land dog supplies add up with no restocking.

  • What kind of pack is that?

  • What kind of pack is that?

  • As soon as you said Maddie her head perked up from the couch!

  • The little door must be the easy access hatch for Narnia.

  • What lives behind that little door?

  • great vid thanks just wondered how do u pack ur canoe what other gear do u take with u and what about waste (the human kind) how do u deal with those issues of weather to poop and scoop

  • Hey,

Where can I find a tarp like that?

  • Hey Just wondering what you do with all the stuff you kept aside for inside the canoe when your portaging? Do you single portage or double? Thanks.

  • @idrosynth I tend to do portages with a single carry when I can, the exception is if I'm soloing for over a week and my pack is on the heavy side with food. As for how I carry everything when I do a single, you can see it all in this video: "Solo Canoe Trip 2009 (1 of 3)" at the 3:33 mark. Perhaps I'll take that clip and make it into it's own vid since this isn't the first time I've been asked this question. Hope that helps.

  • what is that little door in the background?

  • Awesome set of gear videos. I spent three summers guiding canoe trips a couple years ago and I still learned new things from these

  • This is an interesting video. But i find my self totally fascinated by what uses the little door behind you...

  • Wow, you got some great lightweight gear there, I particularly like the sleeping bag, it's about a tenth of the size of mine. For what I've seen so far great vids! Did you ever put up more info on how you prepare your food, the dehydrating etc.

    thanks

  • I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I do plan on doing a video on food prep this season. It's a popular request.

  • where do you pack the rest of the water gear?

  • I have a video in the wings that I'm editing of a solo trip I did this summer that details just that. It pretty much all gets attached to the boat.

  • Hey troy im just wondering how many videos i can expect in the next couple months. I know its alot of work and you may not have the time but it is always good to see a new video up. And hey i jsut got my onepolar 80 Pack.

  • I've got a fair bit of video waiting to be edited. I'm pulling together another solo trip vid and whatever footage I don't use in it I'll look at putting them up as individual "tips" videos. Hard to give times or numbers as I work on them when I can find time. The editing process can also take a while on the full length trips. There will be more in the following months for sure though.

  • thank you very much for sharing awesome.

  • Love all of your videos! Very informative. Keep them coming - especially your solo adventures! These help cure my Spring Fever!

  • How much does the pack and gear weigh?

    Thanks

  • I have the various weights depending on the trip posted on my web site (w w w MaddyTheGoose period com) under the Gear/Complete List section. If I'm going solo with my dog Maddy it weighs in at about 39 pounds (that includes some dog food and various other doggy related items). If I were strictly hiking I would look to shave off more weight.

  • Enjoyed the short video very nice. You mention in the tags provincial interior and park.

Are you referring going into the Q??

You have a great saw you use there, Its the one we bring along also. They (the saw) can be purchased in Pariagas in Ely MN among other great canoe gear,

Just curios though when in a canoe there

is sometimes water in the bottom (bilgewater) but do you use any type of plastic liner to keep the contents dry when on the bottom or the event of a capsize?

    Thanks for vid.

  • Very informative but I too was transfixed by the wee door in the wall! Happy St. Pat's! :)

  • whats in the door in the wall XD

  • Hobbits of course! Actually it's just something I put together to cover our main water line shutoff and meter.

  • That's an awesome packing job. Excellent video.

  • Great video, Cant wait to see ur trip u took this past fall.....Keep up the good work :)
