I dont think Ive ever seen a skater cause so much drama in her career, just my opinion, but a gifted skater none the less in being able to land those triple axels. But a skater with little class in trying to sabatoge another skaters career.
@iceroby72 First of all you talked about her skate showing to the judges!!!!!! (read what u wrote) with just happened twice..second...calling me a nazi while im gay and jewish????you confirmed you are an idiot!!!!!!!

- Skate America in 1991, Harding was stranded in heavy traffic just before her event was scheduled to begin.
- In the short program at the 1993 U.S. Championships, Harding had to ask permission from the referee to restart her program after the back of her dress came unhooked as she began to skate.
- At 1993 Skate America, Harding stopped midway through her free skate and complained to the referee that her skate blade had become loose.
- Also at Skate America in the fall of 1993, Harding claimed to be suffering from an ovarian cyst that was on the verge of bursting, seriously endangering her health.
- The medal ceremony at the 1994 U.S. Championships had to be delayed because Harding could not be found backstage after the competition.
- During the 1994 Winter Olympics, Harding almost failed to appear on the ice when her name was called for the free skating because she was scrambling to replace a broken boot lace.

no i think she is very brave because the same thing has happenened to me when ui tried a double flip and there was noting i could do but fall and she saved those landings with fight
She seemed eager to pick up where she left off instead of waiting until the end. In hindsight that was probably a mistake. She had only succeeded in two of four triple jumping passes until that point in the program, so it might have benefitted her to start over anyway.
The sad part about the early 90's skaters was that they didn't get much sponsorship. Kristi wasn't Dorothy, so it wasn't until the pro boom that she made her earnings. Nancy, if you remember, was encouraged to get her teeth capped before they would endorse her. Tonya got lucky when she landed the Texaco deal, but after that, her skating fell apart.
I remember watching this when it happened. I felt so bad for her. If the blade had been okay and she had won Skate America everything that year could have been different.
The commentator says something like, "With Tonya Harding, you're never quite sure what you're going to get. Last night, what we got was spectacular." She used the exact same words in the commentary for the 1994 Nationals short program.
Thanks for posting this. I have never seen this. Too bad the loose blade disrupted the rest of her performance. Do you have her SP that I heard was "spectacular"? Would love to see it. Thanks!
Uh oh...she's growing.

The blade didn't break..Rather, she claimed that the blade was coming loose and it was "moving everywhere." Oh, well...

OMG.... She cannot avoid to slam her skates on the judge's desk... She seams to do so all her career...

ITA. I remember once, Katarina Witt said she was afraid to jump after her landing blade broke off while trying to land a triple toe.

I don't understand how a world class skater can't get a world class sponsor to give her some DECENT SKATES! She's had too many mishaps w/ her skates.
MishuTaste 3 years ago
Its not her skates. She might have been too stressed out to compete properly and the other thing is with the asthma that she has there.

It was her skate blade...did you even look at the video?

does someone has the 94-videos. her olympic sp and lp? with the us commentary???

I second that request. Someone used to have her 1994 Olympic short program with U.S. commentary, but it was taken down.

exactly also the long programm but unfortunately with the terrible japanese commentary

Julie Moran always said the exact same things from one competition to another. She was skatings worst commentator of all time. Glad she is gone!
