I personally think the reason we need Slippy to see the bosses' health meters is so we'd try to save him every time. It's nearly impossible at that point in Pigma's level since you have about five seconds to shoot two or three enemies chasing Slippy before he retires. Which is cruel because we've been wanting to destroy Pigma for a long time and might have trouble if we can't see his HP.
