  • My old ship <3 I was mk 86.

  • i didnt know bullets can ricochet on the water

  • Compared to the Battleships those gun are puny.

  • @Tang0Fox1 Not if you're on the receiving end.

  • @randy946 true.

  • This is when it is fun to be an FC or GM.

  • it bouncis off the waturr?

  • look up videos of ww2 bombers droppin barrle bombs that skip off the water to blow up damn to avoide torpido nets

  • @sseliet88 they were called bouncing bombs

  • lol 0:35 you can hear the shell drop

  • the phalanx in incredible

  • were the bullets boucing up on 1:30

    from the water??

  • it has to be the water

  • Yes

  • Throw a stone like a disc in a sharp angle against a water surface and it will bounce of too.

  • I was an OS2 on the USS Merrill (DD-976). I left in May 1995 to go to shore duty at NAS Fallon. I'd like to check out the new DDG's they seem pretty high tech. Do they have outboard capability?

  • Is that the surface radar sweep affecting the video quality?

  • Yes

  • @Ebbonified no, it was the air search radar. the an-sps 40. the surface search was the an-sps 10.

  • Hey, you've got the music all mixed up -- the 1812 ouveture (last tune heard in the video) goes along with the big guns, not with a fast-repeating machine gun...

  • The sound crew on duty chose the music, it was being broadcast via loudspeakers on the helo deck at the time and is not a sound track added later. It was much more impressive live than in this little video!

  • Very impressive!!!

Now, how about the next time those Somali pirates start their shit...put this firepower on their asses!!

  • Just Imagine World War 2 where these guns were going off at once and jap planes slamming into the water right next to you. Must have been a chilling experince. I have a world war two video of ship and air battles. Check it out in the video response.

  • if only we had r2d2 back then =D

  • great video !! why do all of the GMs and FCs have all the fun

  • I was looking for the WW2 version...

  • Search, "USS Fletcher DD-445".

  • holy crap, look at those .50 bullets ricocheting off the water!

  • I have been on the Fletcher... AWSOME!! i had a bf there... :( still... the love of my life and i never saw him again... ( de vette )

    sigh....

  • at 1:15 are they arlikon machine gun..?

  • fishing anyone?

  • their littering lol

  • those Tracers hitting the water looks badass. Wish they could of just fed the guns pure tracer-round belts

  • notice how the tracking radar is powerfull enough to interfere with the video recorder

  • only one in like 5 are tracer rounds

  • god, ricochets are cool!

  • haha you here the strong radar on cam szrrr szrrrr nice vid >=)

  • tracer rounds huh?

  • La musique était vraiment diffusé sur le navire ? Quelle mise en scène pour une sortie avec les familles ! Inimaginable en France, vu le coût de ce genre de tir !

  • Yes, the US Navy sponsors "tiger cruises" like this one. The music was being broadcast by the crew on a stereo that was set up for the occasion. The civilians must pay for the food they eat and that is all. Normally only relatives of crew members may be invited but sometimes others can be invited and that is how I got involved because I was a crew member of the first USS Fletcher many years earlier. It was a wonderful experience!

  • I just returned from a Tiger Cruise aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). It was AWESOME!!!The artillery and air power shows were outstanding. If anyone has the opportunity to go on a Tiger Cruise...DON'T pass it up.

  • my dad was a lt. commander on this ship back in the late 80s and early 90s

  • I served on the Fletcher from 95-97 Jared Plourde HT3 got out as a fireman LOL! I would love to hear from an old shipmate. Thanks for the vid!

  • I was on the ship from 89-93, when was this footage shot? Mark Myers FC2 - Mk86 and Harpoon

  • wow the us seems to have a lot of ammo to spare - when i did my national service in germany ('98) i was given 5 rounds - afterwards i had to shout boom boom when pulling the trigger to get my intentions (...well those of the supervisor) across.

  • You should've told your supervisor that you needed to expend older stocks of ammunition due to safety reasons.

  • oh man, thats so badass when they hit the water!

  • Thought the Fletcher was decommissioned by now. Haze gray and under way!

  • Oh yeah all the spru cans are gone. I had friends on the O'Brian and the Fletcher. My DDG was the O'Kane, she's still kickin.

  • I love the CIWS.. my fav weapon ever... and gonna be working with them soon aswell.. cant wait!

I didnt realise the bullets could skim off the water like they did.. that was impressive...

  • @xhoobx

those aren't the bullets, 1 every 5 is a tracers and those tracers have some fosfor in them so you can see them, that's what bounces of the water(you get that a lot when shouting with a .50cal)

  • that music and shooting that starts at 2mins reminds me of the movie apocalyse now

  • USS Elliot crew?

  • Yes, Team Elliot was the last of four teams involved with Fletcher's Sea Swap experiment.

  • Now that is a 4th of July.

  • the phalanx ciws is my fav wep its awesome when it goes off when ur stoof next to it

  • That was awesome when the tracers were bouncing
