I was an OS2 on the USS Merrill (DD-976). I left in May 1995 to go to shore duty at NAS Fallon. I'd like to check out the new DDG's they seem pretty high tech. Do they have outboard capability?
Hey, you've got the music all mixed up -- the 1812 ouveture (last tune heard in the video) goes along with the big guns, not with a fast-repeating machine gun...
The sound crew on duty chose the music, it was being broadcast via loudspeakers on the helo deck at the time and is not a sound track added later. It was much more impressive live than in this little video!
Just Imagine World War 2 where these guns were going off at once and jap planes slamming into the water right next to you. Must have been a chilling experince. I have a world war two video of ship and air battles. Check it out in the video response.
La musique était vraiment diffusé sur le navire ? Quelle mise en scène pour une sortie avec les familles ! Inimaginable en France, vu le coût de ce genre de tir !
Yes, the US Navy sponsors "tiger cruises" like this one. The music was being broadcast by the crew on a stereo that was set up for the occasion. The civilians must pay for the food they eat and that is all. Normally only relatives of crew members may be invited but sometimes others can be invited and that is how I got involved because I was a crew member of the first USS Fletcher many years earlier. It was a wonderful experience!
I just returned from a Tiger Cruise aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). It was AWESOME!!!The artillery and air power shows were outstanding. If anyone has the opportunity to go on a Tiger Cruise...DON'T pass it up.
wow the us seems to have a lot of ammo to spare - when i did my national service in germany ('98) i was given 5 rounds - afterwards i had to shout boom boom when pulling the trigger to get my intentions (...well those of the supervisor) across.
those aren't the bullets, 1 every 5 is a tracers and those tracers have some fosfor in them so you can see them, that's what bounces of the water(you get that a lot when shouting with a .50cal)
My old ship <3 I was mk 86.

You should've told your supervisor that you needed to expend older stocks of ammunition due to safety reasons.
