Animals are intelligent and have a soul. Of course they know where they are, what they do, and can communicate more complex than us humans. we should all start to learn and understand nature. Thanks for your video! :)
Though many animals have proven to be intelligent (namely dolphins and primates), humans do posses a greater intelligence and understanding. I have met people less intelligent than crows, but I have also met rocket scientists and chess grandmasters. We can breach the atmosphere, create huge machines that collide atoms, investigate quantum theory and even just write books; It's our intelligence that allows us to build and use such technologies.
@canidaechiroptera we did not find technology waiting for us to be used ... we created it using our "brains" which is the unique ability of humans, just like every other animal has its own abilities.
though I gotta say, only few humans deserve to be praised for their brains while most others are complete idiots who does not deserve to be alive, for example those fkn hunters who hunt for fun to feel powerful while they're actually just using tools made by superior people.
@edukee It takes trial and error to create good technology too, but I completely agree with both of your points. Every species has its own advantages and disadvantages. And those idiots...will probably always be idiots.
Come on... I always like to show that we ARE animals, and that our morality is a primate morality (more specifically an ape morality), and that whatever it is we have, we can find in other animals. BUT this is stupid. Of course we have objective ways to determine that we're smarter. We see them trying to solve problems, or to avoid danger, and they do fail even when it's in their best interest not to. We watch them die when more intelligence could have saved them.
That's because they don't need weapons. They're smart enough to avoid them, unlike us. "Let me ask you this, lets say you build a room 12 feet below ground and the only way to get out would be by piling boxes on top of each other to create stairs. Which one would get out first humans or animals?" Animals don't need rooms, as they can make their own caves from nature. So your point is moot! And, if they did need to take cover, monkeys can pile boxes up. Even a monkey can do that. ;)
The claim behind this video doesn't make any sense, and it's easy to prove.
The video's author claims that humans may not be the most "superior" creature on Earth, and cites the example of the gorilla who learned hundreds of sign language displays, and then says that this undermines human superiority. That doesn't make any sense because gorilla capacity to learn is inherently inferior to humans. Similarly, virtually every intelligent thing animals have done, humans can do better.
@superdog797 Really? You mean, humans can sense earthquakes without tools? No? Animals can! You mean, humans can eat their meat, without cooking it? No? Animals can! You mean, humans can see in the dark without flashlights? No? Animals can! Gee, what was that you were saying about humans being able to do something better? So much for a superior species.
I see you've spent some time trying to disagree with anyone here who might say something akin to: humans are superior to animals. You probably admire animals and are fascinated by their abilities. I am too. But they are not more intelligent than humans, and any superiority they have is completely innate in them, while humans have unlimited potential to shape the world around them into any form. Anything animals can do humans have the potential to exceed, and that makes us far superior.
@superdog797 And that just proves the authors point! :) See, animals don't need to tell us how great they are, or how much they can accomplish. They just do what they do, and they have no ego involved, whereas humans NEED to tell others how great they think they are. In 2050, we will have overpopulated our world, so much, that there won't be enough food to supply for all, which means long term suffering for the majority of humans. Yes, we've done well shaping it, haven't we? :( .
@veryangelic1 Don't you get it? Any time you try to give animals credit you make them out to be something they are not. They have natural abilities that are fascinating to observe as a product of evolution, but they did not earn the abilities they have; they were given to them. Humans have the ability to do a wide variety of things and to hone their skills creatively in a chosen direction using hard work. Things such as these are to be admired in a way animals simply can't compare.
@superdog797 They can actually sense your feelings, humans can't! Yes, their abilities to do these things are NATURAL, meaning, they need NO HELP, whatsoever, from humans or their tools. So, if you have an ability in art, and it's natural, you earned that? No! Animals can do a wide variety of things, too, & they hone their skills from the day they are born so they can survive. Can u catch prey without tools? They can! Their abilities far exceed man's. Animals don't need admiration, unlike man.
Humans overpopulate? Animals die all the time from lack of resources and predators of the natural order, because they don't have the intelligence to cooperate for their group benefit in the manner humans do to control their groups. The very nature of natural selection is to facilitate evolution through wiping out those less fit elements of the population. Why isn't this video just a nice collage of cool animals? That would at least be entertaining without being overshadowed by pretentiousness.
@superdog797 Oh, but they do cooperate in their groups. Look at wolves, they do it on a day to day basis. How about lions and their pride. It's done, daily. How about elephants and birds. The list goes on and on. Even the bees work together to make sure they have enough. They don't die from lack of resources, they die because MAN interferes with their natural resources, killing everything in their path. No, that's just the way man thinks. Animals are smarter!
Great points in this video. It's simply vanity & arrogance and the need to feel superior that shapes the majority of humans' views on other species. In actuality, animals' instincts and telepathic communication are so highly-tuned that it makes us humans look like dumb, primitive rocks!
Humans have done their best to ensure that animals are thought of as stupid, unfeeling, dirty, and/or dangerous simply so money can be made off them for food, testing, clothes & entertainment. It's just WRONG.
Though I do agree with the notion that we tend to (sometimes) underestimate the intelligence of animals (and overestimate our own), I still think it just simply is a true fact that we (humans) are the only ones on this planet that posess the Kepler telescope, cell-phone and internet creating kind of intelligence! Intelligent as we are, we are also the most f**cked-up species on this planet.
@boomtao Animals don't need tools like phones, telescopes or the internet -- they already have highly-advanced methods of communication, including telepathy and sonar! It's actually so advanced, it's beyond the comprehension of humans -- and yes, humans are the only species that have succeeded in destroying ourselves, other species and our own planet by greed and stupidity.
@boomtao Maybe animals don't need all that junk? In fact, in order to get that junk, humans rely on little children mining in dangerous areas. Think ANY animal would send their offspring to do dangerous work? No, they're smarter than us. hehe
Well said and good solid argument! This is something that bugs the s@&! out of me and has all my life. I see and recognize thinking, rationalization, problem solving, emotional interaction and decisions based on emotional incidents like compassion, etc. I have also noticed that we, as people, tend to test animals based on our own methods of communication which means, animals must then figure out how to speak to us rather than us really learning how to speak to them. Hmm, who is smarter?
what do you mean with superior? we suck at flying and swimming etc. but no earth creature come close when it comes to creativity, building things and reasoning. that's idiotic to question.
some animals use tools, like crows ex. big monkeys are very close to us genetic so of course we can relate to them.
I'd also like to point out the flaws in your logic...
1) Just because humans think mankind is the most intelligent doesn't mean it is self-serving. We don't call ourselves the strongest, the largest, the fastest, etc. There are MANY times where man knowingly recognizes NOT being the best.
2) You seem to hold the accomplishments of non-human animals to a different standard.
Non-human animals are smart, but this whether humans are the smartest or not is not a matter of perspective.
We can split and fuse atoms, travel into space, cure diseases, create electricity, build cars and ships and submarines, make robots, clone life, etc.
Other animals use sticks, twigs, and grass to poke and prod and pick at things. No animal other than humans can even successfully create fire. Hell, great apes won't even work with each other if there is no immediate reward.
We humans may have created great things like cell phones and computers, but we also invented weapons, bombs, different was to kill ppl (guillotine, electric chairs, etc..)
@7Trisanaty7 He doesn't need to make one. He just needs to find a tall tree, and use his cunningness, as they do all the time. They have abilities far beyond what humans have. In fact, did you know that certain dogs can multiply, divide, add and subtract and communicate their answers to humans? How about dogs and cats that are BILINGUAL...meaning they can talk in our language and understand us, yet, most humans can't do the same in return. Go figure! Even there, they have us beat!
Excellent video! Humans are the most arrogant and destructive species in existence. Arrogant to think that life on other planets does not exist, destroy it if they try to communicate with us, and are disrespectful to animals. Just because it may be a hard concept to swallow for 95% out there, it doesn't mean it is not possible. Sharks have shown abilities for problem solving. Sadly are currently becoming extinct due to man's greed and arrogance.
As one who has dogs and cats, I don't ever call myself their owner. We live together and how I communicate is not how most would communicate. I am an energy sensitive person, trained in communicating with others on an energy level. Guess what nonbelievers, animals communicate on this path. You just don't see it because your brain is closed off to that portion. It is a beautiful thing how intelligent others are. Sad that humans have their head up their butts too long to see it.
Lastly, there are animals on this planet that have been here long before humans evolved from our cousins. Once humans evolved and learned things like harnessing the power of an atom, etc we have, as an entire species, in the past 50-60 years been the sole cause of destroying Earth! This is where arrogance has brought us! If we are supposedly more intelligent, then is killing the planet that supports our existence something intelligent creatures do? Not at all. Leave only your footprint!
You had a picture of a telephone in that video. No animal has come even close to inventing something as complex as that. This is a simple argument so that you will understand it.
1) i can imagine something more intelligent than myself
2) opposible digits arn't a measure of intelligence
3) tool use IS a measure of intelligence and some non-human animals ARE considered intelligent for this fact
4) Coco has not acquired syntax. Sort of looks like this: Banana banana now banana now now now banana. ie: repeat symbols over and over for results. There are however other cases of captive animals that have a very minimal syntax, you just picked the wrong captive animal...
this is a nice video to the animals, but i mean come on not practical at all. To say we are not vastly superior intellectually in every way to animals is like saying the sky is not blue. All you have to do is look around you... we are on our laptops connected instantaneously to people thousands of miles away while chimps are out slinging their own crap at eachother.
1. We communicate across the globe within milliseconds . Animals dont
2. We travel faster than any animal: planes
3. We can use strategies and our weapons to fight of the best animal army out there.
4. Even if animals have certain characteristic NATURALLY better then humans, even then humans are able to use strategy and do that same task a million times better then a animal.
5. Scientists have objectively measured intelligence. What particular bias is thr?
@05khanha You seem to have misunderstood the premise of this video.
I was not suggesting that animals are any better or lower than humans. I think any notion of comparison is, frankly, kind of crazy. You are, in fact, demonstrating a key point I was making in the video: that people want to place themselves "above" others and will construct their arguments accordingly.
Lastly, superior is a very general term. I would not use that, I would use something more specific when making comparisons. I would say we are intellectually superior then animals. Which has led us to be better in other ways (communication, traveling, fighting abilities, etc). This is the reason why people might use the word superior in general.
We do not need to know what is going on in the head of these species. Of course, they posses a level of intelligence. But the results speak for themselves. Do I really need to repeat my original post
@05khanha Just wanted to point out, your opinion on communication traveling etc
1.communication ?? some species have thousands of ways humans just cant seem to comprehend take the lyrebird can copy any sound it hears
2.traveling can humans fly natrualy or migrate??
3.fighting abilities well why did ancient chinese monks base there martial art`s combat on animals, and yousing similar tactics in warfare to this day, allso name me one other species apart from us that damages our planet..
2. You proved my point right there, although humans might be limited naturally they have used INTELLIGENCE to overcome those limitations and have figured out ways to do it better then other species that do it naturally.. You are hung up on the methods while ignoring the results.
3. Right, how does that apply here? Let see those inspiring animals try to fight a apache helicopter.
@05khanha The results stand...we're so busy trying to figure out what the animals already know, that we ended up endangering our world, on a day to day basis. We're busy destroying it, while animals ONLY take what they NEED. No more, no less! We, on the other hand, are such a stupid bunch, that we rape the world of everything in it. That's intelligence? That's foolishness!!

@veryangelic1: Just because animals cant do something doesn't mean they would chose not to if they had the opportunity. Hell they even eat their own kind, they arent even smart enough to tilt the odds of a fight in their favor by building weapons. Let me ask you this, lets say you build a room 12 feet below ground and the only way to get out would be by piling boxes on top of each other to create stairs. Which one would get out first humans or animals?
@05khanha To your points: It has been proven that whales, for example do communicate over many thousands of miles. Their songs travel that far when not interfered with by noise pollution.
Humane have built all kinds of technology to help with war, communication, etc. How many have you designed and built?
Many animals have abilities humans have yet to re-create. "Scientists" are humans and, therefore, are not objective.
how many communication/technological devices have I built? None, I will explain why. Humans are really smart in dividing up various value added activities and then share the benefits. For example, someone is a scientist, another person could be an engineer, another could be a business man. For you to say a chemist has not invented telephones so he is not as smart at communicating as a whale is ridiculous. No other living creature has ever behaved in such a sophisticated way of creating value.
@05khanha All you have demonstrated is that the form of "intelligence" you assign to humans in general may be something different entirely. I believe it is mostly cultural. Many human cultures on the planet have never developed advanced technology. Does that mean they can't? No. Genetically, they have the exact same brain as the cultures that have.
Cultures do play a role in human behavior and yes between humans there have been different levels of advancements. But that really has nothing to do with our argument.
Secondly, please learn to read. What i said was i would not use the word superior alone as it is too general. When i add specific characteristic like "intellectually" then it changes the context of the word. Instead of trying to come up with flaws in my writing why dont you come up with real arguments.
I do understand your argument. Lets break it down:
- I agree with the comment about everyone believes they are superior
- Tools argument: Humans have created way more sophisticated tools then animals. You mention nest building, compare that with humans building space ships..
- Learning sign languages - compare that with humans communicating in several languages. Not only that humans are the only species that have learned ways other species communicate.
@05khanha Again, you missed the point AND got the facts wrong. Lots of other species have figured out our mode of communication.
I don't need to compare nest building to building space ships. The point was that humans, for millennia, have told their children that humans are the ONLY animal that uses tools. They were wrong.
The fact that you keep trying to assign a hierarchy to living beings with humans on the top also reinforces the point I was making in the video.
For example how do you know a student is intelligent? You give them a challenging test and see how they do. Animals have only been able to do what they are naturally good at. Whales can communicate long distances naturally. Whereas, humans can not and we still came up with ways to communicate distances FAR greater then whales. If this does not show you the difference then I do not know what will.
Humans are so intelligent. We design and make different machines that ruin life on Earth and then we keep running the machines decade after decade making life harder for everyone, polluting and destroying. This is not intelligent behaviour.
Like humans, other animals also create complex social structures and patterns of social interaction. Encouraging species development and well-being should be the driving force of our civilization.
I'm not 100% with this video. Opposable thumbs and use a communications are not the only reasons people try to define themselves apart from other animals. And scientists DO have objectable ways of trying to figure out animal intelligence. Otherwise, it wouldn't be science. I'm not saying that humans ARE superior to other animals, but our intelligence (so far) has been shown to be outstanding from the rest. That doesn't mean we're superior, it just means we're really smart.
You are right. Science does have "objectable" ways of measuring intelligence. They do NOT have objective ways of doing so. That is the problem. All methods are tainted with our own, built-in bias.
we are (somehow lol) superior to animals because of our intelect, but thats as good as saying a lion is superior then a human because the lion runs faster.
Ego is a big problume for us humans, real data is multi objective, our data is only relevent to the human mind and perception and all else data cannot be read animals are extreamly complex thats what i say anyways thanks a lot for the great video. Peace.
You do realize that scientists have roughly measured the processing power (intellect) of the human brain, right? We have roughly 100 billion neurons in our brains, which far exceeds other animals. I would call this objective, wouldn't you?
Misanthropy aside, there is an immense qualitative difference between the tools, language, and intellect of man and animals. The fact that I am communicating with you by sending phonetic symbols over a global digital network attests to this.
Wow. How the humans bitch. They sound like chimps before a rumble. It's amazing how personally some folks take it when you suggest that 'homo sapiens' might be a misnomer. As if they're spokespeople for the whole race. God help us if they are. Some of them can't write simple English. BTW, the word "sapient" is defined as "Wise, or attempting to appear wise". I guess in that sense we ARE different from animals. They don't bother trying to appear wise. Nothing to prove, I guess. Good video.
My goodness....I can't help but laugh! You nailed it right on the head. As I was going through and reading the comments, I was thinking the same thing.
Enjoyed watching....... l love vedio.s on animal intelligence.......Oh PS- how does any one know that there could be an even more intelligent race- in the vast outerspace ...which is yet to discovered?....
hmmm yeah, because in 30 years the whales are going to be able to stop a giant meteorite from hitting the earth, thus saving it for another day... ignorance is bliss i guess.
Wait...so 2+2 DOESN'T =7?? Jesus Christ, you basically won the fight right there. You're absolutely right! We don't know anything!!! Scientists don't even exist! No one ever thought that we came from gorillas before! In fact, I'm pretty sure that the so called "researchers" just sit around on youtube and spew out blind quotes and snide remarks that don't mean anything!
they just discovered a new intelligent species in deep sea trenches. they communcate, and develop technology. they have their own virtual telecommunication (like the human internet). there has been 4 civilizations discovered so far, one of which was a main city for the species. theyre believed to be an evolved squid species
woaha faaaaar outtttt maaaaan! why go vegan. why that would be mean killing plants. how do you not know that plants do not think either? they probably think we stupid! and what about the abiotic life! THEY'RE JUST LAUGHING AT US! i mean, its alive and your killing it to eat. if you buy into this bs video, you have to go all out and understand that this concerns all life. there are no exceptions.
To be fair, the reason we set ourselves as the most intelligent on this planet is because we're the only species (on this planet) capable of even comprehending such a list, let alone placing ourselves anywhere on it. Although from an outside perspective, we are probably the MINIMUM intelligence to do this. Any less intelligent, and we wouldn't be able to even comprehend the claim that we are intelligent.
Animals are superior to us, because they live in harmony with nature. We do not, we destroy it, are arrogant, lead wars. Is that intelligent? No. Read the bible. People sin and can be evil. Animals do not, so they are perfect in this sense, pure as a child, they go to heaven, adult humans do not. I respect every animal, period, and no I'm no tree hugger or peta guy. :)
you suck go die do you want to be shot! they are smarter!IM GONNa shoot you if you keep killing animals what did they do to you you think its fun killing other animals!THATS like murdering somone!
I used to wonder as a child (while I observed human cruelty, war and hatred) if maybe the animals of the world weren't all looking at us and shaking their heads at our stupidity. Clearly my cat thinks HE is superior;and since he has me so well trained, he's probably right.
People need to wake up; our intelligence is far and away exceeded by arrogance. Self-destructive and out of touch with everything but the most basic of sensory perceptions, we undervalue life and still have a lot to learn.
You should see the arrogance and superiority feeling of a male lion... I would say we share our aggression and violent behaviour with a lot of species.
As for self-destructiveness, we are at least capable of thinking of our influence/destruction on nature. I don't think any other species do that.
What a rubbish argument. Oh, I see— lions /are/ actually more intelligent than humans. We thought that, judging from human civilization, from philosophy, religion, science, etc.— we just /thought/ that we were the most clever mammals because we happen to be from this group. If we were mice, we would certainly know that we were the smartest. You know that's what mice think about, since they are comparably intelligent to human
But maybe I'm wrong and I ought to ask my dog what she thinks.

He may be true about the animal instincts and their communication abilities. But do monkeys have instantaneous communication devices? Have lions discovered anything about their anatomy? I believe that the superior race is defined by how dominant it is over all other species. And don't you blame this on the superiority complex welded into human nature. It's just the truth.
So what if animals don't have computers and such? We don't know if that is their goal, we don't know anything about them. For all we know they could just want to live in the wild, and hunt, and live as what people would call 'savages'. Humans don't even use most of their brain, the size of the brain doesn't matter the intelligence of anything. A cat could be using 95% of their brain ability for all we know, even if their brains aren't very big.
Sorry, but until animals can create there own written language, build civilizations that span continents, study humans and blog there findings on YouTube. Than Humans will still be intellectually superior.

Actually we are superior. It is proven that we have a larger brain capacity than most other animals. And honestly, if other animals were smarter, why don't they have structured colonies, Computers, phones, televisions, cars, alarm clocks lights, musical instruments, well built and thought out homes, and the list goes on.
You unfortunately are ignorant. I do believe that animals can be and are intelligent, but we are superior. And about barn owls, they can't make a list. They aren't smart enough

I thought this was going to be a video about how smart animals are, not how dumb and arrogant you think humans are. Humans are at the top above the animals because of superior intellect wider variety of abilities. That's a fact you'll just have to get used to.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think that our superiority as a race is demonstrated quite well by the fact that we are the only beings that can even comprehend what superiority means.
Thank you for bringing this worldview into the fore. I'm not going to argue who is more intelligent than the other, and yet I believe that there are various intelligences that are as vital as the preferred mathematical and linguistic intelligences in Western school. Even so, intelligence is for naught without a well developed thinking mind.
Actually, that is not true. "Cranial capacity" is the measure of the volume of the interior of the cranium (also called the "brain case"). There are many animals that have larger brains, brain cases, and, thus, cranial capacities.
Ironically, some of the animals on the planet widely regarded as very intelligent have relatively small brains. Octopus, for example.
So, even if it were true that brain size was a measure of intelligence, humans would not measure up in that department.
If hes trying to suggest that other animals exhibit some level of intelligence, then thats fine. But if hes saying that we have no justification for our belief that we are intellectually superior, then I strongly disagree. Homo sapians degree of encephalization (brain mass to body weight) is grossly higher then any other species and our neocortex (the area of a brain responsible for cognition, language and creativity) is the most highly evolved. Our ability to utilize technology is unmatched.
Actually, the point I was making, genererally, is that we choose the criteria by which we measure intelligence. Naturally, we pick aspects of mental processing that we are good at, because we are biased.
Sure we have cell phones and nuclear weapons but can we communicate in color? NO but some sea life can. While that might not be a worthy trade its still a skill we do not possess.

Actually, given enough time to learn it, we could. How can us programmers comprehend binary? You think an animal would be able to read 00010101? And for all of you wondering, that is 21. Humans can actually learn anything we set our minds to. And we do actually have color coded communication. Just view for example NASAs color coded asteroid collision threat level. And we have left the Earth. What other animal has done that? Hm... none, without us doing it for them.
We assigned meaning to those colors through spoken language thats different. We probably could learn anything we set our minds too though. I am not saying we are not at all more intelligent but we aren't as high on the horse as many of us think. Most of the time people think that might makes right and you're average person is a selfish ass. Basing superiority on what we do sometimes is a mistake, I think.
I actually do agree with you. Let me put it this way, the human race has the ability to be greatly superior to any other species of animal. Of course, there are most definitely people who make me question whether they are superior to anything. The few of us who are in fact intelligent perform most necessities to keep technology advancing, whilst the others act as mindless drones performing tasks we tell them to. They don't contribute anything to technological advances.
I work with several drones myself. They are a frustrating bunch. There moral scope doesn't reach any further than the people they know personally, and they hate so many people and things for no reason and when you call them on it they shrug and say "So, this is how I am and you can't change my mind". Pathetic.
Indeed. I find people who are hateful towards humans tend to be illogical. The human race should strive to keep strong, not kill each other for minute reasons.
I do sometimes wonder which will happen first: We find alien technology out in space, or some existing species evolves to the point where we can have a philosophical discussion with it.
I think animals are much more intellignet than we give them credit for. But on average humans must be more intelligent since we are the dominant species (we can do what ever we like and there is nothing that the other animals can do to stop us) I'm talking about on whole since im sure a group of tigers could easily do what they want with a group of civillians, but the millitary, thats another story.

there's no doubt that animals to some extend are intelligent. none is able to accumulate knowledge and pass it down to their younger generation (except some monkeys in japan that learn to wash dirt from sweet potatoes before eating them).
You obviously don't know what you're talking about! Many animals would not survive were they not able to accumulate knowledge and pass it down to the next generation.
In Australia there are size restrictions for catching fish, i.e. they must be a certain age, you cannot take home young fish. Several of these fish species now fail to turn up at their correct spawing grounds. Scientists, who have recently learned that fish can learn a skill and remember it for over one year, now believe young fish have to be guided by older fish to the breeding grounds. This is not happening due to overfishing of mature fish. It is a kind of 'culture' not a hard-wired skill.
I would not consider learning new paths to different breeding grounds or grazing ranges or new watering holes as culture and accumulating knowledges. It simply remapping what has been inherently there. For it to be considered culture, it has to be entirely novel to the species (like the potato eating monkeys I quote above).
Simply not true. Many examples show different mammalian species, and not just primates, passing on knowledge to their young, i.e. 'culture'. Do some research.
Simply not true. Many examples show different mammalian species, and not just primates, passing on knowledge to their young, i.e. 'culture'. Do some research.
You are assuming that other animals would want to invent machines. There is that automatic, built-in bias again.
There are all sorts of human cultures on the planet that have NOT invented any machines. According to science and genetics, they are just as "smart" as other human cultures. Do you have proof otherwise?
Oh, and, by the way, what machines have you invented?
Every animal and person wants to get what they want with minimal effort. For example: Machines will make getting your food and water easier. Even those peoples who didn't advance above the stone age eagerly want tools and machines what will make their lives easier.
After WW2 it has been against the law and/or Political Correctness to come to the conclusion in scientific studies that there are differences in IQ, but still IQ tests have shown there to be big differences in IQs between people and peoples. There are a lot of books and studies on the subject, but to pick one: Richard Lynn's and Tatu Vanhanen's "IQ and the Wealth of Nations".
I have a lot of ideas for improvements to existing machines and vehicles, but because making a patent in my country costs in the tens of thousands of Euros I haven't gotten the courage or money to patent any of them, but thank you for asking :)
Sorry. Excuses don't count. If invention of machines is a sign of intelligence, in your view, you need to produce some actual machines you have invented, or you score pretty low on the intelligence score.
By the way, that is YOUR definition, not mine. After all, animals cannot really give us their excuses, can they?
Comparing your cultural concepts of importance and applying them to all human cultures or animal populations does not cut it. You have got to do better then that.
Please don't take this in a hostile insulting way. I don't know how to rephrase this point any better: "If you don't value the machines and level of development what provide food, water, shelter and warmth/air conditioning easily then show it and go live in the wild for the rest of your life." But honestly me, you and your animals are probably the happiest living in a developed society with easy food, water, safety and shelter. :)
I never said that I do not value our technology. I actually worked as a technology consultant for a very long time. I LOVE technology, and have even been accused of being a "gadget fanatic". I have simply said that inventing machines is not, in my opinion, a viable measure of superior intelligence. This logic implies that every being or culture will value technology as much as you and I and that is both an unrealistic assumption and, frankly, very biased.
There are many human cultures, even today, live virtually without technology. They believe they are perfectly comfortable, and probably are. That does not make them "unintelligent".
Fundamentally, you seem to think that inventing machines is intelligent. I think intelligence goes way beyond that, and is far more complex.
If the people in those tribes would get machines what would make their lives easier they most probably wouldn't want to give away the machines after a few years. I am sorry, but I fundamentally disagree with your thesis. Every animal (humans included) want to satisfy their wants in the most easy way possible. Calling your opinion "far more complex" doesn't make it more complex or right.
Sorry. We will just have to disagree. Just because YOU think that machines would make their lives better does not change their culture to make them want to invent them.
You just don't get that part.
And, you still have not answered my question:
If the invention of machines is a key indicator of intelligence, what machines have you invented?
Well said! If humans are so intelligent how come they are destroying the planet that they live on? Animals live with the environment, not against it like humans! It's time people woke up and grew up and started accepting personal responsibility.
I believe certain animals such as Primates, Cetaceans and especially Elephants share a similar intelligence to humans. Do you know elephants are the only other creature besides humans that have a death ritual? They bury their dead. NO ONE can say that there isn't something special about that...to show that much emotion requires complex intelligence.
Although I agree with you and am amazed by the ways that other animals communicate and survive, i believe that it is our enhanced ability to reason and problem solve that sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom. having said that, it does not mean we are any better. there are animals that are faster and have better senses than us. it is completely subjective to say which traits and animals are superior.
Could be all species are hardwired to think they are superior... possibly another mistake to think it exclusive to humans... could be the same reason animals tend to flock or herd, birds of a feather and so on, clearly an obvious distinction between us and them... as much as my dog loves people, he clearly prefers the company of other dogs, or maybe he just thinks we're really stupid no matter how much he likes us!

On an individual level, intelligence among humans isn't entirely universal... but I gotta call out a straw man when I see one. I don't think anyone is really saying that opposable thumbs are a sign of intelligence, only that certain lucky evolutionary developments made it much easier for humans to become what we are today--opposable thumbs, upright posture, communication and the leap in brain size are all part of a holistic system that made humanity possible.
On the flip side of animal intelligence is human stupidity. Check out my video response on "Denver's Pit Ban Bull" to see a shining example of that. Then check out my "not so evolved" playlist to see other examples of stupid people.
wow! nice presentation man! I suspected what you are saying for a long time now! now i got a reason to believe it!
Hey, i was actually looking for info about the limits of the brain and relation between brain size and complexity and intelligence, anyone got any info. on that?
I would look at the book "The Octopus and the Orangutan" by Eugene Linden. The book is all about animal intelligence. There is some talk about brain size.

Animals are intelligent and have a soul. Of course they know where they are, what they do, and can communicate more complex than us humans. we should all start to learn and understand nature. Thanks for your video! :)

Imagine all the creatures living life in peace...
But which animal would imagine peace with other species? Which animal, at the current stage of evolution, would be able to enforce such peace?
Do you know any dolphin who chose to become an activist?
Or any gorilla who proposed equal gender rights?
A lion that convinced his tribe to become vegetarian?
Darkonomist 11 months ago
Though many animals have proven to be intelligent (namely dolphins and primates), humans do posses a greater intelligence and understanding. I have met people less intelligent than crows, but I have also met rocket scientists and chess grandmasters. We can breach the atmosphere, create huge machines that collide atoms, investigate quantum theory and even just write books; It's our intelligence that allows us to build and use such technologies.

human ARE the superior creatures on this planet.
we can move faster than all other creatures
we can fly higher and insanely faster
we can breath and swim under water faster
we can (easily) kill anything we want without having claws, teeth, poison .. etc
we can see even farther than the galaxy
we can hear sounds on the other side of earth or even in outer space
Hell we can even make a mind that can think and take decisions on it's own and count better and faster than us.
edukee 1 year ago
@edukee You're only counting technology. Naturally, humans can't do all of those things.
canidaechiroptera 11 months ago
@canidaechiroptera we did not find technology waiting for us to be used ... we created it using our "brains" which is the unique ability of humans, just like every other animal has its own abilities.
though I gotta say, only few humans deserve to be praised for their brains while most others are complete idiots who does not deserve to be alive, for example those fkn hunters who hunt for fun to feel powerful while they're actually just using tools made by superior people.
edukee 11 months ago
@edukee It takes trial and error to create good technology too, but I completely agree with both of your points. Every species has its own advantages and disadvantages. And those idiots...will probably always be idiots.
canidaechiroptera 11 months ago
We watch them die when more intelligence could have saved them.
lardhat 1 year ago

Similarly, virtually every intelligent thing animals have done, humans can do better.
superdog797 1 year ago
@superdog797 Really? You mean, humans can sense earthquakes without tools? No? Animals can! You mean, humans can eat their meat, without cooking it? No? Animals can! You mean, humans can see in the dark without flashlights? No? Animals can! Gee, what was that you were saying about humans being able to do something better? So much for a superior species.
veryangelic1 1 year ago
I see you've spent some time trying to disagree with anyone here who might say something akin to: humans are superior to animals. You probably admire animals and are fascinated by their abilities. I am too. But they are not more intelligent than humans, and any superiority they have is completely innate in them, while humans have unlimited potential to shape the world around them into any form. Anything animals can do humans have the potential to exceed, and that makes us far superior.
superdog797 1 year ago
@superdog797 And that just proves the authors point! :) See, animals don't need to tell us how great they are, or how much they can accomplish. They just do what they do, and they have no ego involved, whereas humans NEED to tell others how great they think they are. In 2050, we will have overpopulated our world, so much, that there won't be enough food to supply for all, which means long term suffering for the majority of humans. Yes, we've done well shaping it, haven't we? :( .
veryangelic1 1 year ago
@veryangelic1 Don't you get it? Any time you try to give animals credit you make them out to be something they are not. They have natural abilities that are fascinating to observe as a product of evolution, but they did not earn the abilities they have; they were given to them. Humans have the ability to do a wide variety of things and to hone their skills creatively in a chosen direction using hard work. Things such as these are to be admired in a way animals simply can't compare.
superdog797 1 year ago
@superdog797 They can actually sense your feelings, humans can't! Yes, their abilities to do these things are NATURAL, meaning, they need NO HELP, whatsoever, from humans or their tools. So, if you have an ability in art, and it's natural, you earned that? No! Animals can do a wide variety of things, too, & they hone their skills from the day they are born so they can survive. Can u catch prey without tools? They can! Their abilities far exceed man's. Animals don't need admiration, unlike man.
veryangelic1 1 year ago
Humans overpopulate? Animals die all the time from lack of resources and predators of the natural order, because they don't have the intelligence to cooperate for their group benefit in the manner humans do to control their groups. The very nature of natural selection is to facilitate evolution through wiping out those less fit elements of the population. Why isn't this video just a nice collage of cool animals? That would at least be entertaining without being overshadowed by pretentiousness.
superdog797 1 year ago

Humans are so smart that WE are the ones that are wrecking the planet.
Akkra0 1 year ago
Though I do agree with the notion that we tend to (sometimes) underestimate the intelligence of animals (and overestimate our own), I still think it just simply is a true fact that we (humans) are the only ones on this planet that posess the Kepler telescope, cell-phone and internet creating kind of intelligence! Intelligent as we are, we are also the most f**cked-up species on this planet.
boomtao 1 year ago

Hmm, who is smarter?
weepingturtle 1 year ago
what do you mean with superior? we suck at flying and swimming etc. but no earth creature come close when it comes to creativity, building things and reasoning. that's idiotic to question.
some animals use tools, like crows ex. big monkeys are very close to us genetic so of course we can relate to them.
massimpify 1 year ago
I'd also like to point out the flaws in your logic...
1) Just because humans think mankind is the most intelligent doesn't mean it is self-serving. We don't call ourselves the strongest, the largest, the fastest, etc. There are MANY times where man knowingly recognizes NOT being the best.
2) You seem to hold the accomplishments of non-human animals to a different standard.
GEKGanon 1 year ago

Go figure! Even there, they have us beat!
veryangelic1 1 year ago
Excellent video! Humans are the most arrogant and destructive species in existence. Arrogant to think that life on other planets does not exist, destroy it if they try to communicate with us, and are disrespectful to animals. Just because it may be a hard concept to swallow for 95% out there, it doesn't mean it is not possible. Sharks have shown abilities for problem solving. Sadly are currently becoming extinct due to man's greed and arrogance.
MoMosheshow 2 years ago
As one who has dogs and cats, I don't ever call myself their owner. We live together and how I communicate is not how most would communicate. I am an energy sensitive person, trained in communicating with others on an energy level. Guess what nonbelievers, animals communicate on this path. You just don't see it because your brain is closed off to that portion. It is a beautiful thing how intelligent others are. Sad that humans have their head up their butts too long to see it.
MoMosheshow 2 years ago
Lastly, there are animals on this planet that have been here long before humans evolved from our cousins. Once humans evolved and learned things like harnessing the power of an atom, etc we have, as an entire species, in the past 50-60 years been the sole cause of destroying Earth! This is where arrogance has brought us! If we are supposedly more intelligent, then is killing the planet that supports our existence something intelligent creatures do? Not at all. Leave only your footprint!

You had a picture of a telephone in that video. No animal has come even close to inventing something as complex as that. This is a simple argument so that you will understand it.

this is a nice video to the animals, but i mean come on not practical at all. To say we are not vastly superior intellectually in every way to animals is like saying the sky is not blue. All you have to do is look around you... we are on our laptops connected instantaneously to people thousands of miles away while chimps are out slinging their own crap at eachother.
GETitYAdig42 2 years ago
Here is why we are smarter:
05khanha 2 years ago
@05khanha You seem to have misunderstood the premise of this video.
I was not suggesting that animals are any better or lower than humans. I think any notion of comparison is, frankly, kind of crazy. You are, in fact, demonstrating a key point I was making in the video: that people want to place themselves "above" others and will construct their arguments accordingly.
mikefry 2 years ago
Lastly, superior is a very general term. I would not use that, I would use something more specific when making comparisons. I would say we are intellectually superior then animals. Which has led us to be better in other ways (communication, traveling, fighting abilities, etc). This is the reason why people might use the word superior in general.
05khanha 2 years ago
@05khanha So...
You would not use the term "superior" then in the next sentence, you say we are "intellectually superior"? NOW do you get my point?
And you make this statement without knowing at all what is going on in the heads of other species!
mikefry 2 years ago
We do not need to know what is going on in the head of these species. Of course, they posses a level of intelligence. But the results speak for themselves. Do I really need to repeat my original post

@05khanha Just wanted to point out, your opinion on communication traveling etc
1.communication ?? some species have thousands of ways humans just cant seem to comprehend take the lyrebird can copy any sound it hears
2.traveling can humans fly natrualy or migrate??
3.fighting abilities well why did ancient chinese monks base there martial art`s combat on animals, and yousing similar tactics in warfare to this day, allso name me one other species apart from us that damages our planet..
nelsonsilk 1 year ago
@nelsonsilk:
1. Great a $1 mic can do that and do it better...
05khanha 1 year ago

05khanha 1 year ago
@05khanha To your points: It has been proven that whales, for example do communicate over many thousands of miles. Their songs travel that far when not interfered with by noise pollution.
Humane have built all kinds of technology to help with war, communication, etc. How many have you designed and built?
Many animals have abilities humans have yet to re-create. "Scientists" are humans and, therefore, are not objective.
mikefry 2 years ago
how many communication/technological devices have I built? None, I will explain why. Humans are really smart in dividing up various value added activities and then share the benefits. For example, someone is a scientist, another person could be an engineer, another could be a business man. For you to say a chemist has not invented telephones so he is not as smart at communicating as a whale is ridiculous. No other living creature has ever behaved in such a sophisticated way of creating value.
05khanha 2 years ago
@05khanha All you have demonstrated is that the form of "intelligence" you assign to humans in general may be something different entirely. I believe it is mostly cultural. Many human cultures on the planet have never developed advanced technology. Does that mean they can't? No. Genetically, they have the exact same brain as the cultures that have.
mikefry 2 years ago
Cultures do play a role in human behavior and yes between humans there have been different levels of advancements. But that really has nothing to do with our argument.
Secondly, please learn to read. What i said was i would not use the word superior alone as it is too general. When i add specific characteristic like "intellectually" then it changes the context of the word. Instead of trying to come up with flaws in my writing why dont you come up with real arguments.
05khanha 2 years ago
I do understand your argument. Lets break it down:
- I agree with the comment about everyone believes they are superior
- Tools argument: Humans have created way more sophisticated tools then animals. You mention nest building, compare that with humans building space ships..
- Learning sign languages - compare that with humans communicating in several languages. Not only that humans are the only species that have learned ways other species communicate.
Seem to me you are the one ignoring facts.
05khanha 2 years ago
@05khanha Again, you missed the point AND got the facts wrong. Lots of other species have figured out our mode of communication.
I don't need to compare nest building to building space ships. The point was that humans, for millennia, have told their children that humans are the ONLY animal that uses tools. They were wrong.
The fact that you keep trying to assign a hierarchy to living beings with humans on the top also reinforces the point I was making in the video.
mikefry 2 years ago 4
For example how do you know a student is intelligent? You give them a challenging test and see how they do. Animals have only been able to do what they are naturally good at. Whales can communicate long distances naturally. Whereas, humans can not and we still came up with ways to communicate distances FAR greater then whales. If this does not show you the difference then I do not know what will.
05khanha 2 years ago

S0XF0X 2 years ago
You are right. Science does have "objectable" ways of measuring intelligence. They do NOT have objective ways of doing so. That is the problem. All methods are tainted with our own, built-in bias.
LOL.

we are (somehow lol) superior to animals because of our intelect, but thats as good as saying a lion is superior then a human because the lion runs faster.

But a Platypus could :)

-.- Obviously not.
I'm a Platypus.
Eglice 3 years ago 3
So what if animals don't have computers and such? We don't know if that is their goal, we don't know anything about them. For all we know they could just want to live in the wild, and hunt, and live as what people would call 'savages'. Humans don't even use most of their brain, the size of the brain doesn't matter the intelligence of anything. A cat could be using 95% of their brain ability for all we know, even if their brains aren't very big.
Katiethewolf 3 years ago 3
Sorry, but until animals can create there own written language, build civilizations that span continents, study humans and blog there findings on YouTube. Than Humans will still be intellectually superior.
canmoore 3 years ago
From our point of view, that could be true... But is it? o.^ How can you be so sure?!

I think that our superiority as a race is demonstrated quite well by the fact that we are the only beings that can even comprehend what superiority means.
BIGEE5 3 years ago
Its not a race. Its a species. And we are the only animals with nuclear weapons too. Not THAT smart.
UcanbeGOD 3 years ago 4
Thank you for bringing this worldview into the fore. I'm not going to argue who is more intelligent than the other, and yet I believe that there are various intelligences that are as vital as the preferred mathematical and linguistic intelligences in Western school. Even so, intelligence is for naught without a well developed thinking mind.
RomaOldWays 3 years ago
Sorry but Homo Sapiens are more intelligent than other animals we have a larger cranial capacity hopefully you know that :)
Kujien 3 years ago
Actually, that is not true. "Cranial capacity" is the measure of the volume of the interior of the cranium (also called the "brain case"). There are many animals that have larger brains, brain cases, and, thus, cranial capacities.
Ironically, some of the animals on the planet widely regarded as very intelligent have relatively small brains. Octopus, for example.
So, even if it were true that brain size was a measure of intelligence, humans would not measure up in that department.
mikefry 3 years ago
True but homo sapiens are the most intelligent species on the planet.
Kujien 3 years ago
Still waiting for facts, rather than opinion. Your opinion, you have to admit, may be at least a little biased.
mikefry 3 years ago
If hes trying to suggest that other animals exhibit some level of intelligence, then thats fine. But if hes saying that we have no justification for our belief that we are intellectually superior, then I strongly disagree. Homo sapians degree of encephalization (brain mass to body weight) is grossly higher then any other species and our neocortex (the area of a brain responsible for cognition, language and creativity) is the most highly evolved. Our ability to utilize technology is unmatched.
danieln6531 4 years ago
Actually, the point I was making, genererally, is that we choose the criteria by which we measure intelligence. Naturally, we pick aspects of mental processing that we are good at, because we are biased.
mikefry 4 years ago
Sure we have cell phones and nuclear weapons but can we communicate in color? NO but some sea life can. While that might not be a worthy trade its still a skill we do not possess.

Actually, given enough time to learn it, we could. How can us programmers comprehend binary? You think an animal would be able to read 00010101? And for all of you wondering, that is 21. Humans can actually learn anything we set our minds to. And we do actually have color coded communication. Just view for example NASAs color coded asteroid collision threat level. And we have left the Earth. What other animal has done that? Hm... none, without us doing it for them.
VoluntaryDeception 3 years ago
We assigned meaning to those colors through spoken language thats different. We probably could learn anything we set our minds too though. I am not saying we are not at all more intelligent but we aren't as high on the horse as many of us think. Most of the time people think that might makes right and you're average person is a selfish ass. Basing superiority on what we do sometimes is a mistake, I think.
UcanbeGOD 3 years ago
I actually do agree with you. Let me put it this way, the human race has the ability to be greatly superior to any other species of animal. Of course, there are most definitely people who make me question whether they are superior to anything. The few of us who are in fact intelligent perform most necessities to keep technology advancing, whilst the others act as mindless drones performing tasks we tell them to. They don't contribute anything to technological advances.
VoluntaryDeception 3 years ago 3
I work with several drones myself. They are a frustrating bunch. There moral scope doesn't reach any further than the people they know personally, and they hate so many people and things for no reason and when you call them on it they shrug and say "So, this is how I am and you can't change my mind". Pathetic.
UcanbeGOD 3 years ago
Indeed. I find people who are hateful towards humans tend to be illogical. The human race should strive to keep strong, not kill each other for minute reasons.
VoluntaryDeception 3 years ago
I do sometimes wonder which will happen first: We find alien technology out in space, or some existing species evolves to the point where we can have a philosophical discussion with it.
TheMathGuy 4 years ago

I think animals are much more intellignet than we give them credit for. But on average humans must be more intelligent since we are the dominant species (we can do what ever we like and there is nothing that the other animals can do to stop us) I'm talking about on whole since im sure a group of tigers could easily do what they want with a group of civillians, but the millitary, thats another story.

there's no doubt that animals to some extend are intelligent. none is able to accumulate knowledge and pass it down to their younger generation (except some monkeys in japan that learn to wash dirt from sweet potatoes before eating them).
agungk 4 years ago
You obviously don't know what you're talking about! Many animals would not survive were they not able to accumulate knowledge and pass it down to the next generation.

agungk 4 years ago
In Australia there are size restrictions for catching fish, i.e. they must be a certain age, you cannot take home young fish. Several of these fish species now fail to turn up at their correct spawing grounds. Scientists, who have recently learned that fish can learn a skill and remember it for over one year, now believe young fish have to be guided by older fish to the breeding grounds. This is not happening due to overfishing of mature fish. It is a kind of 'culture' not a hard-wired skill.
TheVeganicWitch 3 years ago
I would not consider learning new paths to different breeding grounds or grazing ranges or new watering holes as culture and accumulating knowledges. It simply remapping what has been inherently there. For it to be considered culture, it has to be entirely novel to the species (like the potato eating monkeys I quote above).
agungk 3 years ago
Simply not true. Many examples show different mammalian species, and not just primates, passing on knowledge to their young, i.e. 'culture'. Do some research.

So our ability to invent machines what do incredible things doesn't make us smarter than other animals on the planet ? Are you serious ?
Finn001abd 4 years ago
You are assuming that other animals would want to invent machines. There is that automatic, built-in bias again.
There are all sorts of human cultures on the planet that have NOT invented any machines. According to science and genetics, they are just as "smart" as other human cultures. Do you have proof otherwise?
Oh, and, by the way, what machines have you invented?
mikefry 4 years ago
Every animal and person wants to get what they want with minimal effort. For example: Machines will make getting your food and water easier. Even those peoples who didn't advance above the stone age eagerly want tools and machines what will make their lives easier.
Finn001abd 4 years ago
After WW2 it has been against the law and/or Political Correctness to come to the conclusion in scientific studies that there are differences in IQ, but still IQ tests have shown there to be big differences in IQs between people and peoples. There are a lot of books and studies on the subject, but to pick one: Richard Lynn's and Tatu Vanhanen's "IQ and the Wealth of Nations".
Finn001abd 4 years ago
I have a lot of ideas for improvements to existing machines and vehicles, but because making a patent in my country costs in the tens of thousands of Euros I haven't gotten the courage or money to patent any of them, but thank you for asking :)
Finn001abd 4 years ago
You have got to do better then that.
mikefry 4 years ago
Please don't take this in a hostile insulting way. I don't know how to rephrase this point any better: "If you don't value the machines and level of development what provide food, water, shelter and warmth/air conditioning easily then show it and go live in the wild for the rest of your life." But honestly me, you and your animals are probably the happiest living in a developed society with easy food, water, safety and shelter. :)
Finn001abd 4 years ago
I never said that I do not value our technology. I actually worked as a technology consultant for a very long time. I LOVE technology, and have even been accused of being a "gadget fanatic". I have simply said that inventing machines is not, in my opinion, a viable measure of superior intelligence. This logic implies that every being or culture will value technology as much as you and I and that is both an unrealistic assumption and, frankly, very biased.
mikefry 4 years ago
There are many human cultures, even today, live virtually without technology. They believe they are perfectly comfortable, and probably are. That does not make them "unintelligent".
Fundamentally, you seem to think that inventing machines is intelligent. I think intelligence goes way beyond that, and is far more complex.
mikefry 4 years ago
If the people in those tribes would get machines what would make their lives easier they most probably wouldn't want to give away the machines after a few years. I am sorry, but I fundamentally disagree with your thesis. Every animal (humans included) want to satisfy their wants in the most easy way possible. Calling your opinion "far more complex" doesn't make it more complex or right.
Finn001abd 4 years ago
Sorry. We will just have to disagree. Just because YOU think that machines would make their lives better does not change their culture to make them want to invent them.
You just don't get that part.
And, you still have not answered my question:
If the invention of machines is a key indicator of intelligence, what machines have you invented?
mikefry 4 years ago

Although I agree with you and am amazed by the ways that other animals communicate and survive, i believe that it is our enhanced ability to reason and problem solve that sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom. having said that, it does not mean we are any better. there are animals that are faster and have better senses than us. it is completely subjective to say which traits and animals are superior.
ironman12348 4 years ago
what really sets us apart is imagination. The ability to see little pictures in our heads that have nothing to do with what around us.

I don't think anyone is really saying that opposable thumbs are a sign of intelligence, only that certain lucky evolutionary developments made it much easier for humans to become what we are today--opposable thumbs, upright posture, communication and the leap in brain size are all part of a holistic system that made humanity possible.
thelooseteeth 4 years ago
