  • Appreciate the video. I don't fit any stereotypes of gay men, and makes me feel left out a lot. So glad to watch your videos and realize I'm not alone. Thanks.

  • I myself find it hard to find anything in common with alot of other gay men

  • Great video. I'm more on the masculine side, so it was extremely difficult for me to come out. I actually just made a vidya about it.

  • Batty bwoi.

  • I see a lot of people getting upset over the term "straight acting". Look, you know what the person means. Sure, "masculine" would be a better term, but you know what he means.

  • why cant you identify with straight blokes sporty types i love john inman and quinten crisp

  • I love straight acting men!

  • "straight acting", "masculine"....lolz

    that;ll be all

  • I think it is stereotypical to have a gay guy constantly talking about how he's just a "dude" and he's "regular."

  • @1bwash You're right, a fair number of guys do this.

  • I was always looking for people that I could identify with, it's natural. And that included looking for people to subscribe to on YouTube (I subbed to you so I guess I felt I could identify in some way with you!) It's so nice nowadays as inceasingly the gay community seems to be increasingly diverse as more people have the confidence to come out. I hope it continues

Also, I haven't heard the term 'straightacting' this side of the pond in ages. It might have already gone extinct in these parts!

  • I think your title is perfect. Everyone is going to know what you mean, although I can understand why some may complain. I see no point in a semantic war over something that serves its purpose quite well.

I am one of those gay dudes who doesn’t fit any typical stereotype. In fact, it was one of my mental arguments to convince myself I wasn’t really gay for years. A month ago, I thought I was the only one. Now I see that there must be like one of us in every state. Guess you are MN :D

  • The term "Straight acting" is marginalizing not only to gays, but to straight men. There are straight men who cook (Mario Batali), Design Fashion (Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren), Perform on Broadway (Matthew Morrison), and some straight men are the biggest primping pretty boys you'll ever meet: Ryan Seacrest, Dwayne Johnson, Mario Lopez, David Bowie, David Beckham I could go on for days, these men are down right pretty and proud of it. The term straight act needs to die out because it's false

  • This was a very good video. The first time I found your channel I had the same negative reaction to the term "straight acting". I thought you were one of those hypocritical pigs like frat boys who scream "f@g" while seeking out anal sex. But very quickly I saw how sincere and non-judgmental you are. Your honesty is so incredible that it makes your videos like gems.

  • In gay world masculinity is valued as desirable so effeminate gay guys tend to hate on masculine homosexuals by making fun of the term "straight acting". I really don't understand what the big deal is.

  • @k4th4rt1cSTATE What I see is exactly the opposite. Most of the really fem guys who are bullied and attacked, come out and live openly with courage. But the frat boys and closeted athletes stay closeted so they perpetuate their own lie that "there are no straight-acting gays". It's just that the effeminate ones seem to have more courage and integrity, and it seems like the straight-acting ones hate on them for that.

  • I had no idea there were so many gay masculine guys, maybe it's cus i haven't seen many on you tube or they don't stand out on the street in the way some people do.

  • I disagree with the title of this video! I think you need to re-word it! A guy whose not sterotypically gay isnt a straight acting gay guy. Hes gay, not straight. Also know body likes somebody that "acts" all the time. I know thats not what you mean but the wording is misleading :) Im not the sterotypically gay guy but im definetly not straight acting!

  • @123moscowman I'm biased of course, but I think the title fits very well. My two points in this video are that the term is still frequently used but I think eventually it will die out. If one browses around Youtube these days one is can find a pretty wide variety of gay people blogging on Youtube. A few years ago the variety and number of people wasn't as great. To me this is evidence of a changing society and this change in society will lead to the death of the term straight-acting.

  • @StraightActingGayGuy Wow nice answer...suprisingly I have no response, I just agree with your point :)

  • I think we can all credit AreYouSuprised with inspiring a lot of these more masculine gay men to begin coming out, at least in the past few weeks. As more masculine gay men, like Randy Philips, come out, the more society will begin to realize that being gay isn't exactly what they had been led to believe.

  • @gocallyoualawyer Without a doubt many of the recent people who have started blogging gained their inspiration from his videos. It's a good thing his coming out video gained so much attention. Now in turn, more people will be inspired by the new people who are blogging. In a way, it's a bit like the snowball effect.

  • People ought to be themselves, nothing more, nothing less...

  • @Rfritz09 Amen

  • The term "straight acting" upsets me b/c it doesn't sound like a masculine gay man but rather like a gay guy that pretends to act "straight/butch". There's a difference between being naturally masculine and "straight acting" (it's that word "acting" that ruins it). I understand why you chose it, but I hope this term or concept whatever you want to call it dies out and dies out fast.

  • I seriously love this video man. Really puts into good wording how I feel about the whole stereotypical gay scene. Its that stereotype that makes us "straight-acting" gay men more closeted that other I feel. I'll be posting this to my twitter and favorites on my channel dude. Thanks again bro

  • @CaseCloseted I made sure to include your channel because I think quite a few guys can see themselves in you. You're someone they can relate to and someone who they can be inspired by. There are people out there watching your videos who feel better about being gay, because you're posting your videos and they can relate. Good job and keep up the good work!

  • I'm a straight acting gay Guy, not because I'm in the float but because its who i am. What I hate is that when I'm in a relationship my other half likes nothing of what i do and aren't really willing to try anything more than once. Its a bummer, so if your a straight acting gay Guy in vegas.. were the hell have you been lol

  • I think that when some gay guys come out, they let their real self come out. Sometimes it's not such a dramatic change, and for some they were always feminine and that's how they were. For some, they were the most masculine thing out there and then 'turned femmy' when they came out--that was the real them. I think that people are more used to seeing the more masculine side of the spectrum now and are realizing that we're not boxes, you can't put one term to encompass all of us

  • I worked in a high school for a year and found that it was much harder for the "straight acting" ones than the "out there" ones. The teachers could usually tell, but the kids couldn't, and you could just see how tortured they were. The upside of being called "fag" at 13 is that it clarifies things particularly when you get support from other kids.

  • Good video. I noticed you haven't made any in a while, so I'm glad to see you back!

  • "Straight acting" sounds like "closeted"

    Masculine is more proper.

  • You're right about there being so many more gay guys that are just regular guys posting vids on youtube. Its pretty damn cool actually, I'm sure its let alot of guys know that there are people out there like them. I know it has for me.

  • Here are some great videos by some great gay teens (and twenty-somethings): denactor - The secret to life is..., BradSoHood - Don't Judge Me, big93scott - I Support You, big93scott - Is Being Gay a Choice, big93scott - It Gets Better, markmywords09 - Do This Not That - Dating, PandaManDanny - [BEING GAY] Coming to Terms With it, ImaZombeh - Marry Me - Gay Love Story, shep689 - Our Story, reinforcedchair - Forever and always,

  • not so straight with a dick in your mouth.

  • @oxygene6661988 One could argue that.

  • @StraightActingGayGuy is the dick str8?, it's not gay unless the dick is crooked, lol jk

  • Hey there its nice to see you again! I can't believe that its been "years" . To me it feels like it was all last week, when Jay made that video of how you got attacked on a website, I remember that was the 1st time I saw you and then subbed =D.

  • @LazyTallGuy Yes, it is surprising. He made that video nearly two years ago. Thanks for continuing to watch.

  • glad your back!!!

  • @thisispaul7 =)

  • I consider myself more masculine, I think that's a little better fitting than "straight acting..." but I don't know...

  • @CJCA915 I think your right.

  • Erik glad to see you back

  • Your list is really good but don't forget areyousurprised (randy phillips) as he was the inspiration for many of the people on your list to make videos. and you're right about your username. it is how i found you and for that very reason as I am also "straight acting". Great vid as always buddy!!

  • The reason you get so much criticism for your name is because it doesn't make sense. "straight acting" would mean you liked women. You are either gay or you are straight. Gay people don't have to be feminin, but there is no way in hell I'm ever calling myself "straight acting" even though I am considered such by many. It imply's that "straight" is "normal" while "gay" is "bizarre and weird." Humans need to stop focusing on their sexuality so much. It hardly changes even 1% about who you are.

  • @PurpleKillJoy Believe me, I've heard every reason why I should be criticized for my name. I understood when I was creating my channel the connotations, the implications, etc., that the name could have. I was sure though, at the time that I would do much more good with my channel than harm. I wanted to reach out specificly to the guys who identified under this label. Two and a half years later I am sure, without any shadow of a doubt, that my idea of doing more good than harm has com to fruition

  • @StraightActingGayGuy next there will be channels like "WhiteActingBlackGuy"

  • @PurpleKillJoy Anythings possible.

  • @StraightActingGayGuy and you would find nothing odd or insulting about that name?

  • @PurpleKillJoy I wouldn't really pay much attention to it.

  • @StraightActingGayGuy that's pretty messed up.

  • @PurpleKillJoy I understand where you are coming from and I agree that the word "straight acting" gives a little too much power to the straight part, but I honestly think that it's a term that works and even in my writings I have had characters who are gay but try to act straight. I don't think straight acting should be used for people who are out and are perceived as straight, but instead for guys who are in the closet and act like a straight guy.

  • @BrianRegan5 your use of the term makes a lot more sense then this guy's use of the term. Although I do not believe in the invention of the "Closet" that the gay community has created for ourselves to hide in. ALTHOUGHHHHHH I do realize that in some situations it is necessary because sadly people are still EXTREMELY ignorant, and it's better to be safe and unharmed. This world is a f'd up place.

  • Word.

  • Always love your videos!!!!

  • You are very correct! What does "straight acting" really mean, anyway? I think the idea was that "straight acting" would mean not feminine or stereotypcial, but more or less "regular." However, plenty of straight guys are kind of feminine, so who knows? Your comments are always thoughtful and appreciated.

  • yea, thx for posting. good to hear from you again bro!

  • @cumpanyun =)

  • Most are like you. Maybe you are the sterotype and the flamboyant are the exception. On the new comedy show Suburgatory on NBC, two swishy guys are talking to the new str8 guy who moved into the neighborhood with his daughter. Str8 guy says to the two swishy guys, "I'm glad to see there's a gay couple here." They respond, "Really, dish." Then the wives of the two guys walk up. Stereotype was blown out of the water. The soldier that came out and others are changing our image, along with you.

  • @Flanole I very much do think that historic gay stereotypes have been overblown. I suspect that more people than we realize are gay. One of the reasons I suspect this is because so many people make it such a big issue. For most of history many guys have just blended in, many not ever acting or speaking out about their feelings. It no longer needs to be like that anymore. The people I've listed are only just several of many guys who feel the same way.

  • Great to hear from you again Eric! Keep up the good work!

  • @janaxis Be sure to check out some of the channels I've listed in the description! All of them are on the journey of coming out and they all are helping people in a lot of different ways! They are really encouraging!

  • Just a regular guy. That's me. I'm not so straight, but not flamin' either, just in the middle. Good to see you again.

  • @Drawlen Thanks, I'll be uploading another video a little later tonight.

  • nice love it thanks

  • Thanks for posting this, I agree. It will be great when a guy can just be someone you know and his sexualtiy will not be an issue. Thanks for the links too. :-)
