That's about right. Victor Zaragosa walked the song into Wild for us just before Christmas 1993, but most people likely heard the song after New Year's Day 1994 as it began to really do well here in the Bay Area and in other regions.

New School Freestyle is everything that came after Lisette Melendez 'Together Forever' and Corina 'Temptation' from 1991. Everything before those tracks is concidered Old School Freestyle. So, for example, lets say you're talking about Collage 'I'll Be Loving You' from 1993. That song might seem "classic" but it's still New School.
