I want me one like this, and a red 1981 cub. Add those to my 1986 1015 cub, and I got a collection. the 86 is an MTD, but ohh, well. Its done everything I ask it to and more
They other day me and may grandpa went tractor supply (my grandpa has 127 cub he plans on giving it to me in the future i think) and we saw some of the new cubs and a few were belt drivin i was like wow thats going to suck for who ever buys this cub i say shaft drivin is the way it shouldn't not belt. Oh well the old cubs are great i dont like the new ones.
my nabor had one but it broke down so much that she went and bought a bran new john deere i suggest you should do the same there good mowes just... think about it peace :D
Haha thanks for the laugh. A John Deere, better than an old IH cub? What a hoot. Nothing beats these old tractors. I could get an old powerhouse IH cub cadet for $200 dollars and I could outmow and outlast a new $2000 dollar john deere. These were some of the most reliable tractors ever built.Your neighbor clearly doesn't know how to take care of a tractor if she was able to get one of the toughest tractors ever made to break down. Talk to any old tractor enthusiast. You'll hear the same thing.
@worknsnow345 i have heard nothing but bad stuff bout em I had a cub cadet push mower nothing but a waste of 220 dollors I heard the zero turns r good tho
i agree. nothing new is any good, john deere or cub(which is now sadly MTD). these machines, these are the best ever built. that thing was built over 40 years ago, and look at how it still performs. its a beast. to say that a new john deere or anything is better is PURE BS. i have both a IH cub 147 and a jd 112. they are both good tractors, but the cub is stronger, and its a hydrostatic. anyone that cant keep one running doesnt know what the hell they are doing.
I'd say that the only thing that could beat an old Cub would be a '70's Gravely rear engine tractor, they have all gear drive, an 8 speed trans, and shaft driven PTO's that can run front, mid, or rear mount attachments. Plus they can work with any of the 30+ Gravely walk behind attachments.
@worknsnow345 I own a Cub Cadet 147 exactly like this one only in better condition. I got mine for 450 bux which was a steal. I only put a seat on it, changed the oil, and put gas in it. I have 3 acres and it mows it like you won't believe. I also have a '72 Sears Custom 10XL, its a hot rod, and a 1992 Murray 12 which is my beater. I have owned a lot of tractors since I was a kid, mostly Suburbans and Toros. Friends don't let friends ride John Deere.
@triplex4286 have you ever worked on a cub cadet? have you ever mowed with one? if the grass was 3 foot tall. and you mowed with one itd leave a finish better then a bush hog... the frame and sheet metal is thicker then a truck for god sake and the rear ends.... forget it. they r much better then a peerless peice of shit they put in the new JDs or even the old JDs.
hey sounds like what i did because i asked a guy for his cub 122 and he said no but im gonna ask him again if he wants to sell it for 100 cause its been sitten for soo long.
I actually just got a Cub 127 for $100 with a mower deck. Sat outside for almost 10 years without running. Of course all the original cloth-wrapped wire had rotted out. Just changed out the gas, and jumped the coil and starter-generator and she fired right up.
Hey I'm sorry for asking if you'd seen my vids, I guess you have. Sometimes I get so many comments on my accounts its hard to keep track. I saw your 127, it looks great! Starts up way faster than ours. Keep it running strong. Nothing was built like these old IH cubs.
they are more than lawn mowers, they are garden tractors. true utility machines for the homeowner, a scaled down farm tractor. i have a 1971 john deere 112 and its equally as tough. newer cub cadets are garbage, made by MTD they are a shame to cub cadet legacy. these old machines will do just about anything. tired iron is the only way to go.
hey i cant argu with you on that! the new lawn mowers are cheap plastic made in china bulit in america crap i got a craftsman gardon tractor its a 92 but it runs great
good viedo, great tractor.i recall my grandfathers "the sprit of 76 cadet"...would be a welcome tractor in my collection.just got a 42" IH plow for my 72.normaly get alot of snow here in N.E OHIO.
This is New Hampshire. I know what you mean, its really fun to see (and work in) every season around here. The ol' cub cadet is fine with any of them.
hey there, I remember my Cub Cadet used to have the gear shift inbetween the legs v.s by the stearing wheel. I also remember that I used to cut in second gear after going around first gear, by the shrubs.
Yeah, usually IH cubs that were geared shifted down below the seat or somewhere along that center frame piece. This cub cadet is hydrostatic, so there are no gears. The hydro lever on the dash just has a few visual dashes so you can sorta guess where the right speed might be. Hydros are truly awesome for mowing. No shifting, and you can change speed pretty much instantly.
I have a 106(gear drive) fitted with an 18hp v-twin and its got the factory 42in deck, but I think the v-twin can handle a whole lot more......129 thats a wide frame, I didn't think parts from a wide frame would fit on a narrow frame...guess i was wrong lol
yeah turns out the mowers will fit on either a wide or narrow frame tractor. I made sure to get a narrow frame cradle and mule drive though, because those parts aren't interchangable. It works like a charm. A v twin? wow thats a beast of a motor. how's it run with that thing?
Its amazing, take what your tractor can do right now and multiply it by 10. The only thing about it is that it kept burning up clutches so I put a heavier clutch on it and hasn't stopped since. Its been on there for over a year.
Its a 48 inch deck that came off a 129. We bought it off ebay. When my great grandfather got this tractor brand new it didnt come with a deck. My dad had been searching for many years locally to no aveil, but luckily I found this one and now we're in business.

it should be about 1/4 an inch.
