    11/11/11

  • ARE LIVING TRADAGYS

  • What is that song? Its awesome.

  • @sniprmn8 "the Kraken" by Hans Zimmer; film music of "pirates of the caribbean 2"

  • Wooaaaao...extraordinaire ! putain cette bataille a dû être dantesque !

  • why did britain bother? britain should have stayed out of it

  • @TheBrinaleck

In case you don't know, Britain was not involved in Verdun.

  • On aurait dû bosser avec les allemands pour faire sauter la gueule aux anglais.

  • @Dicopsy C'est exactement se que je me dis quand je vois le racisme anti-français de la part des anglais/américain

  • @Zynyd54 we should have left you with the germans in 1914 and 1939

  • @TheBrinaleck C'est ce que vous avez fait en 1940, les français vous ont couvert pendant que vous rentriez sur votre île vous planquer.

  • La 1er guerre mondial, La guerre des grand ! La guerre des titan !!

  • i can not even imagine how men were able to live under these conditions and not loose their minds.

  • @deemilieu my great grandfather alexander ,lyndsey ritchie the black watch regement of scotland wearing a kilt the germans called them the kilted ladies from hell he survived had a wife and eleven children well they didnt have t.v in those day

  • those german helmets at 3.10 look just like the ones used in ww2.

    Or am i stupid?

    sorry for my poor english

  • @dcrr49 The germen helmets which you know from ww2, were first introduced in 1916, and they were already used in the battle of Verdun.

  • @dcrr49 No, it is a helmets of wwI

  • how much money could have been spent on schools, hospitals, universities but was spent on slaughter

humanity is running out of warnings

  • 500,000 dead, RIP

  • Pauls317 - Modern historians consider that the popular view that the generals of the 1st world war were donkey's is unfounded and simplistic. Here are just a few things to consider:

    1) The generals did not declare war - the politicians did and they directed the generals.

    2) British soldiers venerated Hague.

    3) The only thing they could do to take land was shell a location and then send men in on foot or horse.

The French, British etc were fighting for their freedom.

  • it's almost the clash of the titan german powerfull warmachine agains the french who dont want to give more than a feet of their country to the most powerfull country in the world at this time. Gj french. Bloody battle indeed. Those who fight at Verdun and the battle de la Somme will remember it all their life.

  • it's almost the clash of the titan german powerfull warmachine agains the french who dont want to give more than a feet of their country to the most powerfull country in the world at this time. Gj french. Bloody battle indeed

  • What can I say . You will never know hell until you walk into it.

  • if it happens once it can happen again if it happens twice it will happen again

  • kinda off topic, but it blows my mind when they say that america dropped more bombs in Vietnam, then all of WWI and WWII, and the Civil Wars put together.

  • @headbusta25 yeah, its true. and of course the bombs which were used in the vietnam war were more accurate and deadlier than in former wars.

  • @GenialerTyp do u know how many bombs it was estimation wise because i dont think anyone knows the true amount

  • @persiankid2211 ca. 7,5 millionen tonns ;)

  • @GenialerTyp

23.5 millions of shells from the French artillery,21 from the german in fact during the 10 months of the battle. The first 2 days of the battle, february 21st,1.5 millions of shells were fired by germans.1 Big shell every 2 or 3 seconds.

So 7.5 millions tonns can't be exact.

    But very nice video.

  • @GenialerTyp monsanto came up with napalm. so, the world can thank them for that contribution...

  • @headbusta25 Very few bombs were dropped in WW1. Was any dropped from balloons in the civil war? A few? Artillery shells are a different matter.

  • @ascoop22 yea but the scope of have WORLD wars vs a war in a country smaller than california, and they still dropped more bombs than all other wars...and not just "dropping" bombs. I think they were talking about all ordinace.

  • @headbusta25 It is amazing that they dropped 7 million tons on Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia compared to 3.4 million on Germany in WW2. They did however have over 10 years to drop that number during the Vietnam war compared to 6 years for WW2. Also, very low tons were dropped on Germany prior to 1943. I really don't think artillery shells are included. The British alone produced over 500,000 tons of explosives during WW1 and that doesn't include any steel for the shells.

  • @headbusta25 chemical companies like dow and monsanto always make a 'killing' when we go to war...

  • @deemilieu Many more than those companies too. It is beyond sickening, but it is not going to change.

  • To see captured moments in time...just amazing. The music is the best....great video. Thanks so much.

  • nice video but sorry it's not only videos and pictures about The Battle of Verdun...

we see videos with brits &/or American (the biggest error here because American soldiers will arrive only in the middle of 1917)

I remainber to you that Verdun was the biggest battle of the WW1 and only between Frenchs and Germans...

in the Battle of the Somme later yes we see a big majority of Brits but also French vs Germans but not in Verdun only between French and German

    /watch?v=Tl6DgjlchxI

  • Video quatlity was poor but the way this was put together plus the choice of music make this worth watching well done

  • jeffc152 is right and heatwave2010 is right, but that is how we are sad, the next war the rich will die and the poor will suffer more,

  • In WW 1, "the rich", or at least the sons of the bourgeois & aristocrats, died even more than the poors, since most were junior officers and were the 1st to go over the top. In the French infantry, the casualty rate was 18% for the rank-and-file, above 21% for the junior officers. The most spared were the factory workers, as many were needed in the weapon and ammo industries.

So please don't apply "class struggle" models to WW1.

  • How do so many millions of men agree to do something so senseless? And it continues to this day... Killing and maiming one another over what? They want you to think it's for country, its your duty! Only the rich and powerful benefit from war, it's for them... The rest only suffer.

  • it wasnt senseless if you look at their point of view. to their perspective, they believe that they were fighting for what they believe was right. what they're doing is probably wrong on our side but be that as it may, to them, they were right aswell.

  • all intervinientes of wars should be ashamed!! PEACE RULLS

  • VIVE LE FRANCE.

  • Amitié franco-Allemande !

  • GLOIRE ET PAIX POUR LES HEROS!

  • Some of this footage is from the Battle of the Somme.

  • stfu

  • impressive

  • shell shock...brutal thing it is

  • To The government war is called "Population Reduction" think about that or we would be like China

  • No more war. There are no winners. Only victims.

  • Agree 100% Centaur. However, until the people en masse stop voting for parties they see as being patriotic by taking their lads and lasses into a war situation it will continue.

If for one moment they thought they'd be voted out for going into a war they'd soon change their minds double quick.

  • You mean that didnt happen:

    watch?v=hmvbJkY01us

  • Gruesome facial injuries at 6:15 :(

"The Price of Glory" by Sir Alistair Horne is an excellent English language accounting of this battle.

  • ,,,,"♫tell me where to get the real documentary♫",,,,, or the name of the program or documentary, i shall truely apreciate it very much :)

  • it's from the documentary "hell of verdun" and was showed by SAT1 and ARTE (two german TV broadcasts). sry, but I dunno where to find it :(

  • 3:30 hardcore rush

  • it's "The Kraken" from "Pirates of the Caribbean"

  • what song is playing in the background to this?

  • it was insanity

  • When you know how this war began, it makes even less sense. This went terribly out of control.

  • one ruler besting the other ruler that his BALLS are bigger than the other ruler's BALLS?

  • These generals who sent men to die in waves should have been arrested for war crimes. What a waste.

  • @pauls317 war crimes were not established until post WW2 my good man

  • I meant my grandfather was French not that only the French suffered. I have the same compassion for both the franch and germans in that foolish war.

  • Dear Genialer Typ, thank you for a heartwrenching documentation of this horrible baltte in a horrible war. I am old enough that my grandfather was one of those soldiers (french) who on both sides equally suffered hell on earth, I feel sorry that this piece so respectful of both sides is followed by so many divisively inappropriate comments.

  • I've been there. It must have been a nightmare for the soldiers there. Let them rest in peace

  • chemical weapon used

  • "The Wehrmacht was disciplined and acted like soldiers"??!!!! I cannot believe I am reading this crap. Ukraine welcomed the German army as liberators and discovered that the "civilised" Germans were worse than Stalin. There is overwhelming evidence detailing the Wehrmacht's complicity in some of the worst crimes in the war...it was not just SS! As for the raped Berliners, well, they sent their men off to war without qualms as to what would happen to their millions of victims.

  • Behind this war and all our wars since two centuries, you can found the same bastards. The same families.

And now this is still the same families, from the same system, who want war against Iran.

  • What the hell are you talking about? How did you get 11 thumbs up? Your comment doesn't even make any sense.

  • you call them racist, are YOU racist?! I do not know where to start with you, ignorant pig!

  • Being a soldier myself, I cant believe how much human conflict has changed when I watch this, these men were truly a breed appart.

  • FraKlan, I am assuming you are American. You obviously don't know how much the wars have hurt Europe. Many Europeans are still feeling the impact of WWII. Another war like that would certainly crush the hearts and souls of Europe.

  • what is left to crush in europe. you are in shambles. You are being over run by muslims immagrants who want to dominate and not assimilate. You have ceded all of the authority of your nations to the non democratic EU, which is really platform for germany to conquer europe without using troops. Who will controll the EU, well the richest and most powerful state, germany, by the time you all realize this it will be too late. democracy will have died without a referendum,

  • How is the EU undemocratic? Also, Germany at least deserves to have Prussia back after all we did to help in the cold war AND Afghanistan AND Bosnia AND Iraq. Monty, I also have one last question- are you a European?

  • First sending fat drunk useless soldiers to afghanistan has hurt more than helped, as has been catalogued in many articles.

It is undemocratic because there was no referendum for the countries to enter the union. And almost every time there was a referendum it was voted down. Look at ireland. they EU'ocrats didn't get the answer they wanted so they will force them to vote over and over again until they get the answer they want.

  • I agree that Russia should relinquish kalingrad to germany. I think Russia should have had to lose anything it gained during the second world war, ie giving land back to finland, the baltics, and poland. Germany should get back kalingrad and that's it.

  • i agree 100%. Lets not forget that an estimated 250,000 german civilians were massacred in and around "kalingrad". an area that was always german ever since the middle ages. now there is not 1 ethnic german in that area. Talk about genocide. Not all germans were monsters in ww2. Lots of them were ordinary people trying to live their simple lives and they were killed too. so both sides suffered.

  • i wouldn't go that far. sure a lot of germans were decent people, but they voted the Nat Soc. as the majority in Parliament and for Hitler(i know hindenberg won). Both sides did suffer, but the germans surely caused more suffering than anyone else. That does not absolve the communists, but there isn't a real equivalance between what the Germans did as policy and what the other nations did to defeat the germans. The Brits and americans never exterminated people as policy

  • Let me remind of something, about 66.66666% of German women in Berlin when the Russians invaded Berlin were raped by Russian soldiers. At least the Wehrmacht was disciplined and ACTED like soldiers.

  • I will agree, the Russians raped an pillaged Eastern Germany, but it was a direct result of what the Germans did in '41-'44. Sure the Wehrmact fought like soldiers, but the fact remains that after the Wehrmacht's military victories,SS or other death squads would exterminate unwanted elements, essentially any russian. But this doesn't matter much now, considering Europe is dying in terms of population, is beholden to a russian gas pipeline, and can't back up its soft power with military force

  • That was not only "the direct result" of what the Germans did in 41-44. The african in the french army have done the same thing in Italy and in Germany, even in the south of France.

A lot of russian troops wasn't European.

All these people were barbarian (and still are). For them war means rapes and pillages.

  • Again, no argument here when it comes to some of the "troops" used by France and Russia, just look at what Russian 'Troops' did to Georgian civillians in 2008. However, a lot of the brutality commited by the white european russians as a form of revenge, vengence, nemisis, whatever you want to call it, for the brutality commited by germany and her allies in russia. It does not excuse it, but even the Germans knew it was comming towards the end of the war, that is why so many fled to the west.

  • and the civillians fled to the west before the end of the war. Entire groups of German soldiers fleed to the west to surrended to the US because they knew they would end up dead or in gulags if they fell into russian hands. Germany devoted the majority of its resources to the Eastern Front because they knew what the Russians would do if they ever occupied German soil. the German Army surrendered to the US/UK a day before it surrendered to Russia because it knew who the benevolent people were.

  • Again that doesn't mean that the russians deserve to occupy land that is historically german, or absolve their crimes, but the phrase "suffering on both sides" implies that the vast majority of germans were just innocent bystanders, when many of them did vote into power the very entity that ensured that gotterdamrung

  • In 1940, the Belgians & French were suprised to see how "korrekt" the occupying German troops behaved. They could compare this with the general behaviour and the many war crimes committed by the German army in 1914-1918 in occupied regions.

In the beginning of WW2, the German soldiers were ordered to behave correctly, in order to avoid "Grauelpropaganda", so that the Allies could not exploit the theme of "german barbarianism". This policy did not last, once in Russia.

  • i find the EU VERY UNDEMOCRATIC. look at the fucking lisbon treaty! ireland voted NO and guess what??? THEY WANT THEM TO VOTE AGAIN. how offensive that must be for the irish people. could you imagine if america votes obama in and then they say oh wait... you have to vote again... like they dont trust your opinion. how is that democratic? but atleast ireland had the chance to vote. other countries were not allowed to vote on it because their leaders simply wouldnt let them. very undemocratic

  • Fort Douaumont brrr the mere name is still frightening. One of the most modern fortifications then. Almost disarmed in 1915, so that the Germans took it like a flower at the beginning of the battle of Verdun. Brilliantly reconquered by Mangin in autumn 1916 — then a "quiet sector" (= "Friedhof")

  • FraKlan- Don't confuse me with a pacifist; I am not- nor am I gay- you need to look up the definition of that, instead of throwing the word around as if it was an insult.

Yes those things are happening, but you are exploiting and contorting the situation. Im not naive; immigration needs to be seriously controlled and Europe is not taking islamism seriously enough but that doesn't mean every muslim or immigrant is a criminal or terrorist; it just doesn't. The far right are just as dangerous.

  • FraKlan- what the fuck are you talking about? Do you want Europe to be at war again?

  • ... blah blah poor guys

  • Good one

  • This video captivates me, I think a large part of it is due to the Music which suits aptly. But what is that fort, was that the main centrepeice of the battle?

  • it is the Fort de Douaumont. on of three big fortress in verdun.

  • what is the music?

  • REad the Info box, its "The Kraken" from Pirats of the Caribbean 2, composed by Hans Zimmer.

  • Is that true about the not walking the battlefields after dark due to the ghosts? Strange I know, but I do believe in them and I guess with all the torment the men had to go through it would be a very eerie place after dark, I guess Auschwitz would have a similar kind of feel to it to

  • Well, I dont know, but during WW1, a lot of religouse rituals where practised and all. I know that the Italias would put a pice of cloth into the mouth thier fallen comerads, so they could pay the boatsman who would bring thier souls over the river styx to the afterlife.

Also, you didnt went out in the dark, becuse if you got located, you where dead. The brits had that problems wehn they repaired the razor wiers. Lots of soldier where killed by MGs that way. Totally insane.....

  • "Is that true about the not walking the battlefields after dark due to the ghosts?"

I've heard that about the Vietnamese (French colonists said that Vietnamese could not be good warriors, exactly for this reason the Vietnamese proved them wrong! after communism swept superstitions away).

In WW1, night operations were common: Patrols to collect prisoners and information; advanced parties who prepared an offensive (cutting barbed wire, etc.). Even grand attacks by entire divisions.

  • @AngryAlbino

    thats not cool...but with your nick I supposed you are a child...when not...my god...palin...did you hear me...palin...;)

  • 2:41 thats cool...... 2:47 not so cool more like horrific

  • @ Albino - where is your brain ? Compassion not your thing ?

    WW1 screwed our world .

  • no it didnt it helped women get their rights in britan because they had to do lots of mens jobs.... pleas think before commenting.

  • A lot that is wrong in the world today can be traced back to WWI. Do some research.

  • People often berate Germany for the use of Concentration camps, yes they were evil, especially wha tthey used them for. I understand they were British invention, although I don't think we tried to annilate people, I maybe wrong, please correct me if I am.

  • they did a good job trying to kill boers.

  • How can Germany be the root of all problems, she is not we are, The Human Race, power tempts us all as nations, and the worst of it is we never ever learn from past mistakes, it wil never happen again due to superior armour and tactics nowadays but stil we send men to die in wars which are not ours, maybe in another 90 years the human race might have learnt some lessons if there is anyone left.

As for the video, its a good tribute to men fallen, is it real footage or from a film?

  • ukchris64- Well said.

  • All those high ranking officers at the rear that were drinking Burgundy wine and smoking cigars while troops were sent to death...

  • Thats not true! if it is, than who's killing palistinians daily? Who killed thousands of american indians in the 19th century? Who's killing tibetans who are only trying to leave to india? Who's killing innocent afghan families in the latter's country. And one more thing, Stalin killed more of his own people than Hitler killed in total during his time as chancellor of germany.

And no, I'm not german at all, I'm english.

  • then who send Lenin to russia ? who started ww2 which split the world in half ? who supported Mao ? who fuckd up asia and afrcia in cold war ?

who gave reason for jews to create their own state(mass emigration in 1930)?

    regarding america, ok its true

  • That's just an unbelievably stupid thing to say.

  • maybe, but if you think about what germany did and what it resulted in...

  • sakal88- a very stupid statement.

  • the germans have killed a lot of innocent people in Europe.

  • as did the romans, norwegian, danish, frisian, french, spanish, serbs, greek, portugese, dutch, english.

killing for benefit is sadly a human property.

  • Support the EU? - Thanks god for the EU ? LOOL

    EU = CRIME

  • Never again!

    In Variate Concordia!

    Support the EU!

  • Thanks god for the EU. Now an inter-european war is immpossible.

  • leonleonceur- well said. Europeans have been killing each other for centuries. Our blood-drenched continent is now at peace and we should all appreciate that.

  • hi people. I had problems with the publisher of the music "The Kraken" from the movie "Pirates of the Carribbean", because they say I broke the copyright-law. Well, I wrote the name of the music at the end of my vid, but to be sure:

All rigths deserve to the Walt Disney Studios, Hans Zimmer and other companies or persons who produced the music "The Kraken".

I can't say if i can show this movie in future.

    Your GenialerTyp

  • Even to this day, you are advised against roaming the battlefield after dark.. the ghosts y`know. Thank your maker that you where not in fighting age in 1916..

  • Dulce et decorum est, pro patria moret. A good video.

  • Rosa Luxembourg got what she deserved,a bullet to end her worthless life, the red scum. Sorry it wasn't me who put her down. Same with the rest of the red crowd back then.

  • dumb little ungrown wanker. fuck off and squeek your dumb shit around with your retarded freaks. how can a little ugly ungrown pig like you make comments about a time, where totally other circumstances ruled. well luxemburg was "red scum", eh. and hitler and his nationalsocialistic neurotic losers did some good? fucking little asshole. even with pictures like that above you are not able to shut up with your idiotical brainfuck. asshole.

  • what a civilization... pff! Rosa Luxemburg tryed to convince european people to avoid this war and support the international fraternity, but they chose to follow their generals and ultra-nationalism...

  • were was the documantary from i am a real history freak and about verdun i think it was stupid to attack it bleeding frans to die was pointles with there endless supplys think about this guys they needed frans russia great britain and america to beat the germans

  • russia was loseing badly and the usa only turned up a week before the war ended and

    verdun was a good move

it was a city the french could not lose so if the germans attacked it the french would have to withdraw its forces from the others fronts to defend it

problem was it back fired on the germans

  • UKconservative, you are slightly exaggerating when you write "the USA only turned up a week before the war ended". We were pretty glad to see them arrive in mass from Spring 1918 on — so glad that we equipped them with our modern weapons. But I agree they too often take full credit for wars fought by other nations.

It's true that the French were ready to defend Verdun at all costs — which they did.

  • wow get ur facts straight

  • they are straight

  • Sorry but you've got your facts wrong there mate. The USA turned up a year before the war ended.

  • they might of but they had no effect on the outcome of the war

  • of course they had an effect! They provided around a million fresh troops to the war which tipped the scales of the stalemate.

  • no first of all there was only a few thousand seccend of all the roy navy had cut off german supplys and they where on the verge of surrending

  • ya it did...but only after losing generations of the french army, the french army paid a heavy toll to keep the city....they say if you were a french soldier in WWI you had fought in Verdun...so sad :(

  • yer i bet verdun was a mess after the war

  • You think Germany fought alone?? You need to educate yourself. Germany had numerous allies. By the way, Russia was a worthless ally in WWI as they army was poorly trained and equipped and was divided along ideological lines. Read up on the Russian Expeditionary Force. And Russia was eliminated from the war after Tannenberg. The U.S. was a minor player entering late and suffering few casualties. They lost 120,000 men but 90% of them died of the flu. It was France and the BE against the Axis.

  • Germany's allies in WWI were mainly the Austrian Empire and Turkey; later, Bulgaria to balance Romania and Greece. Russia was not a worthless ally at all, as it kept many enemy forces busy in the East. Their army was comaratively poorly trained and equipped, yet they had a good aviation and artillery. Read Soljhenitsyn "August'14". Russia was not eliminated after Tannenberg (Aug. 1914), it still won victories on Austria, but only in the Summer of 1917.

  • Yes, but the Germans entrenched and technology favoured defenders. Politically the entente had to attack the Germans at huge cost. The only times the Germans mounted big offensives (i.e. Verdun and the Spring offensive of 1918) they didn't do any better than the allies when they attacked....

  • quite sad

  • What's the song called?

  • The Kraken, from pirates of the caribbean 2

  • ok thank you!

  • People back then had no real Idea of what a modern war involved so volunteered readily enough.

Theres no way you'd get volunteers like that today.

Dying for your country is horrible, painful, brutal and pointless.

  • zaohad1

Peopel didn't join to "die for their country" They joined to fight and win. That is like saying people join the fire department to get burned up.

Can't say to much about your way of life since you think so little of it as not to want to protect it

  • The Stahlhelm is the helmet that replaced the Pickelhaube (the one with the spike on it). The latter was made of leather and was the same as wearing toilet paper in a trench war, so the Wermacht started issuing the Stahlhelm (the one we all know as the German helmet)early in the Verdun campaign. Technically, you're right, but replacing the helmet of all your troops is time consuming. The older model was gradually phased out of combat duty.

  • you know your history on ww1

  • Hello JuanCha1228,

but there was no Wehrmacht at this time! In imperial Germany the name was: Reichswehr (= Imperial Defence). In the times of the republic sometimes Wehrmacht (Defence Powers) was used for Army and Navy as a whole. Officially the Wehrmacht was founded by the Nazi-Regime in 1935.

Perhaps it will be for you interest.

  • Of course, you are correct. I forget the German Military was disbanded after WW1 under the Paris Peace Conference and rebuilt under the Third Reich.

  • 2 things are evident from ww1, a war can kill 30 million people without accomplising very much at all. and the real great war will never end because war is the health of the state.

  • lulzwarrior, true, the term"hero" is one of the tools in the psychological methods perfected by the military to manipulate men. Yet it is not that ridiculous, as it appeals to the highest emotions in human beings. How they are used is another matter.

Did anybody fight there voluntarily? Yes, and it is not just an opinion, but facts: Look at the hundreds of thousands of guys who volunteered in the armed forces in 1914-1916, in France, Britain, Belgium, Germany, even the US before 1917.

  • very brave men , this is england. I am a royal marine and this is why I fight

  • thanks for making this, a good video.

  • Obviously, once Germany had violated the neutrality of Belgium in Aug. 1914, Belgium and its defenders had no reason to respect the neutrality of Germany territories.

As for the Marokko crisis in 1912, England feared that Germany would invade Belgium to attack France, and prepared to protect this country.

The British knew that, with the Schlieffen plan, Germany had a well-prepared strategy to attack France through Belgium. The whole German army was trained for this.

  • Stark & gerade gemacht. Hochachtung!

  • esxcelent use of music

  • after an assanation russia beefed up her army germany used this as an onpening for war, france being allies with russia declared war on germany. to get to the french germany invaded luxonberg and belguim. belguim being allies with england ment english and all parts of the english and french empire this meant canadian and austrlian's were sent to france to push bak the german army but they hit a stail mate out side france.1 year before the war ended america enter the war.

  • ab 6:15 wirds ziemlich hart

  • Someone here wrote that "It was France that declared war on Prussia. France was the aggressor." Not in 1914: Germany officially declared war to Russia, then to France, and invaded Belgium, whose neutrality was guaranteed by a treaty signed by the German emperor... So, who was the aggressor was very clear in WW1.

  • There was a secret treaty between big nations(England/France/Germany) allowing them to march through Belgium! England also prepared to invade Belgium, but Germans were faster! Besides: Belgium was NOT neutral! Belgium fought against German colonies in Africa and occupied together with France German colonies violating the Treaty of Kongo (Kongo Akte).

Russia and France made it look as if Germany was the aggressor, but it´s not true. This war was well prepared and not by Germany.

  • We might believe you if you could provide a serious reference to this "secret treaty". But it simply doesn't make sense.

England did not "prepare to invade Belgium", as it had practically no army, except in India.

The neutrality of Belgium had been recognized by the major European powers, including Germany which violated it in 1914. It was one of the crimes which justified the international condemnation of Germany in 1919.

  • Well, England did even prepare in April 1912 to invade Belgium if Marokko crises became serious. There are many books and british officiers who confirmed this. I do not mention German books but look at Niall Ferguson "The Pity of War" chapter 3 (page 105 in German version). And do not forget that Britain violated neutrality of Greece in WW 1.

The dirty game with Belgium was: The big nations said: marching through Belgium is not considered "war".

  • do NOT forget the Kongo Treaty "Kongo Akte". The Neutrality of the colonies had been also recognized by all big nations but France, England AND Belgium violated this neutrality invading Kamerun and other colonies. If you condemn Germany for violating neutrality, why is it o.k. if Britain, France AND Beligum violated other territories neutrality? And Belgium was an Empire of Evil.look what Leo- poldII did to/in Kongo! ALL nations were reigned by criminals, letting people die for their sick ideas.

  • I also checked the files of German Foreign office. It is absolutely true that Germany in 1914 violated Belgian Neutrality and this was a crime. Even if France would have declared war first, Germany would have been to be blamed for political stupidity of Schlieffen Plan. I totally agree. But all I want is that what Britain, France and Belgium did, violating neutrality of Greece, Kamerun and other territories is considered also crime. Also Japanes and British attack on Kiautschou.
