it can be done either way, I have set up several preset drum racks to choose from and also built in functionality to allow loading of samples to individual tracks.

@titusandcrush This is using a program called Max/MSP. I have created a patch for it which turns the APC40 into a step sequencer. You'd need Max/Msp to have the APC40 to function as it does in my video. I have however seen other people creating ableton midi setups to do the same thing within Ableon Live.

@fenlandhippie however you can download 'max runtime' for free. This lets you run max patches, but you can't edit them.
