  • Hair is hair..there are deeper issues

  • 2:27 I experience that as well.

  • I really loved making this film! Please check my new blog on my Sisterlocks!

    wendyrose-infullbloom.blogspot.com

  • 3:41 preach girl i feel the same way

  • @Aeropostale087

The problem is that it damages your hair and kills the hair slowly.

The product they put in it can actually destroy a can of coke.

It also can lead to baldness and cancer.

Not worth it if you ask me.

If you want straight, have a weave or something...

  • They should have interviewed more people with perms, hear more of what we got to say.I like my hair soft &shiny not because of what society tells me,I stopped watching t.v. 3 yrs ago & I don't buy magazines. I like the way it looks this vid is condemning me because I do.Also all blacks don't have tightly curled hair they left them out of this video like they not black or something. My sister saw a demon with dreadlocks so even if I ever go natural I will NEVER get dreadlocks, ever, Lord's will.

  • I decided to go natural myself because I realized that it was time for me go with the flow of who I am and stop trying to fit into that "image" of what other people feel is beauty. I feel more beautiful, confident and sexier now than I ever have and I have only been growing my hair naturally for the past five months. I say do what you want with you hair...but never jeopardize the true you for anyone else.

  • The Sister in the green dress is very very very beautiful.

  • whatever! white ppl wear extensionsalso we are not the only ones

  • Black people, its time for us to be who we are. Everyone wears their natural hair except for us. Love yourself black man and black woman.

  • I'm curious what the last women in this vid said back to her boss...

  • I love my locks.. the thought of cutting them to please the work world upsets me, but its tough to get hired with the long hair as a man.

  • I have been natural for about 17 years...I have had more complements from non-africans than africans about my hair. This is about self love and accepting myself in my natural form. it is a shame, I had to learn this in my early twenties, and not taught during my childhood to love what is natural

  • Locks blow in the wind just fine ;).

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • Im a latina too, and my hair is curly, sometimes it's afro ish, sometimes its not, and I saw this video and I thought . . wow , vanity its rridicoulous. Being Puero rican, a mix of african, and spanish and a little bit of taino ( native PR indian) there is a a lot of judgement on hair. I think natural is beautiful and we were not ALL meant to look the same. One should have pride in where they come from. It's ok to switch it up sometimes, but not to chnage your ESSENCE.

  • im a latina girl, i tell my friend, why she put that creme in her hair, i told her i will kill to have her hair, its so pretty, and you can do soo much with it, she stop putting the creme in her hair, now she is learning to like it too.. i never understood, why most of black girls do that to their hair, but never said anything because they get offend so easy..this a great vid, to show them, there is nothing wrong with their natural pretty hair!

  • THANK YOU.

  • people!! africans have naturally straight hair too. africans are very diverse people... we need to stop linking only curly hair to natural..and we need to stop hating each other or putting each other down because of hair..other races tamper with their hair too..why do we focus on black women only..u hardly see a white guy makin a hate video about white women using clip on extensions or dye..there are bigger issues in the world..lets live with love

  • Its not a debate about what other ppl or Afrikans have-its about learning to love what You have and stop letting propaganda and societal pressure program your mind. If you are not black-you shouldn't be comparing yourself to what white men and women are doing. Their cultures are not beneficial or healthy for afrikans. Afrikans should be following Afrikan culture and loving their Afrikan selves-so what a white person does is not a good example of what an Afrikan(black person) should follow. Htp

  • I meant 'if you Are black....'

  • that girl in that green dress hair is so cute LOL.

  • i never flat iron or anything. i always wear it curly. i have 4b hair ok. I get so many good comments from blacks, whites, latinos. this latino lady saw me and was like, omg, i love your hair. it's so pretty. I like, thank you lol. also, i was at an art festival, and one of the artist (white man) was like, wow, your hair is pretty, how do you do that? it was in 2 strand twist, and i took one down in showed him how i do it. and he love it. LOL.

  • other races can accept natural hair before blacks can, thats why people of other races usually comment on natural hair being beautiful, and furthermore natural hair is something different from what other races are accustomed to.

  • It is very true that the only people who really have a problem with natural African (American) hairstyles are African Americans. Other people just see it as hair and consider (as with every other set of styles) whether or not it is well kept and looks good. 'Blacks' bring up the more controversial aspects of natural hairstyles

  • You know, all I have to say about this, is that most people who wear their hair natural has more of a cofident ability in themselves. To me having natural hair gives a girl/man a cofidence complex because they have to go out and face the ideas of everyone else in american society who says black hair is ugly. It's fair from ugly. It has to be the most beautiful thing ever seen. I mean is curly in a way that you pull it out and it goes right back in. To me that is just so exciting.

  • I agree with you on the hair. However, not all rice has bleaching agents in it. Not all rice is brown. LOL you need a 101 on rice. How did u get to talking about rice anyways this is about hair.

  • The BEST decision I ever made for my hair was to get rid of the weaves, and go Natural!!!

  • i'm actually going natural now i cut all the relaxer out of my hair and just starting 4rm scratch

  • I think as black people we should be able to rock whatever hairstyle we want. However, we need to check ourselves an our motivations? I am going natural because I am tired of apologizing to whites and blacks for my kinky hair...I should not, in 2009 have to apologize for one iota of what that being black entails... including my hair. For me perming my hair as a black woman is like a brunette white woman dying her hair blond. We both are believing a beauty myth..I am tired of the lye!

  • That comment was very empowering. I am a college freshman and my mother has been trying to figure out for the longest why I stopped getting my hair relaxed. I used to cry if my hair didn't lie flat on my head. Now I'm embracing my curls!

  • Congrats!!!

  • @oooop95 same here!

  • i study chemistry ignant, so its alright if you dont believe, most people who dont go to school, lol, rice having a bleaching agent, IN WHAT CONCENTRATIONS, lol

  • they are many ways to solve a problem, like huh, getting straighteners that are not dangerous to the scalp, sheesh, i didnt know there, and guess what , there are straighteners like that, so shutup now,

  • what the heck does hair have to do with natural progression, people should allow people to be what the hell they want to be without anyone talking, whether they wear flippin weave or not, how come other ethnicities can do what the hell they want without being judged so vehemently by others, like if their not even human, yeah they do get disenfranchised too, i dont diagree with that, but they are allowed to be themselves, they are not seen as less human , so frig you

  • throwing people in boxes doesnt help the problem , it makes it worse, just because someone wears a style that is so called European doesnt mean they are self hating, plenty of other types of peoples have napppy hair , not only black people, would you like me to name them lol, cause its everyone, its whats in style that counts sometimes, i agree thought process should be changed, but at the same time, we shouldnt ignore bigger issues for smaller ones, what would make sense to tackle first

  • if they are ashamed they are shamed they are plenty of ways to go about it, but simply telling them they should all change their hairstyle is petty, some people just like the style , they dont hate their hair, so why go after that, sorry dont go by popular statisitcs, i know how those can be skewed to make one group look bad, and when i judge someone, i judge on the individual, not a whole group of people,

  • Somethin I noticed one day when I was at walmart is most people of color have really long hair. If black women didn't damage their hair like they do it will grow really long really fast. Look at all the women on fotki, and the average white girl hair only comes to about her shoulder or back. And then you see indian and hispanic women hair go to bra strap length and further and you can see plenty of Black women (natural) hair grow that long to.Mos of the time it's longer than what it seem because

  • it's curly. All I'm saying is people act like white folks are the epitome of long hair. And also Black hispanic indian people hair is thick and full and long. Just somethin I noticed while at walmart.

  • @Amarra2012 That is because white folk love to cut it off, most are lazy about their hair and cut it off so they can just brush it down, many have told me this.

  • lol, once again dealing with silly shit and not dealing with real problems, why dont people just wear what they want and stop all this, 'we all gotta do this , we all gotta do that'

  • @MUN7001 There was no need to cuss, I agree people shouldn't be condemning me and others like me for wanting to wear my hair straight. Seems like to me they want everyone to be the same and not have their own ideas of what they like and what they don't. Oh and as for dreadlocks my sister saw a demon with them in his head so I will NEVER wear them, ever.

  • I hear this too often about working in corporate offices wearing your natural hair. It offends the upidies. As long as you go to work neat, clean, and do your job it should'nt matter if a person goes to work with dreads, afro etc.

  • @chocara1 Um that is true but why are you condemning me because I CHOOSE, no one can force me to do anything trust me (except my mother lol). I LOVE the way my hair acts after getting a relazer, how easy it is to coomb and style. If you want to wear it natural go ahead. Me I won't be caught dead in dreadlocks, so help me God, even if I did go natural because my sis saw a demon with them in its head. Oh and dreadlocks is trying to be white by your standards, how else will those napps swing?

  • @SkyyeEyes Huh! What are you talkn about. I don't remember condemning you. You must be responding to an old old comment.

  • I agree

  • Quality of hair? Do you mean type 2, type 3, and type 4? Someone with wavy/curly natural hair, opposed to someone with coily, kinky hair?

  • But why do black people treat wearing natural hair as more than what it is. Every other racial group wears their natural hair everyday and don't really treat it like some "spiritual journey" -- it's kind of just hair

  • That is because, people of color, have been to hate our hair. When slavery was apart of our society when had to keep our hair covered, we was taught that our hair is not beautiful, and to get a job a person of color needs to have non kinky hair. It just goes on and on why it is a spiritual journey.

  • I guess

  • Dumbass!

If a woman is ugly with natural hair (the hair she was born with), then she's still ugly with a perm or a weave - so it's doesn't make a difference. An ugly person is an ugly person. You don't have to be pretty to wear your god given hair - hair and beauty are separate. A weave will not turn a ugly chick into a beauty queen.

    fucking fool, lmfao

If YOU are the President of the blacks with thoughts like that, I feel sorry for us all

  • so powerful!

  • These "treatments" are loaded with chemicals; if it smells bad, it's bad for your body! Women, we are in our =full= glory with our own, natural, God-given hair. I have not permed or dyed my hair in 12 years and I have no regrets. Live by your =own= standards and respect yourSelves, just as God made you.. God does not make mistakes!!

  • oops Preach!

  • wow. gave me chills "i went from un-natural"

    PREACE SISTA!

  • Good vid.

  • The woman at 3:20 is speaking the truth !!!

  • I agree with everything that the beautiful natural sister said from 02:53

  • we as a people need to get over this hair thing and skin thing! who cares what your hair is? i don't give two hoots about the next person's hair and not gonna knock them if they don't go natural, and not gonna hate if they have striaght hair! my hair is to the middle of my back and people ALWAYS think it's fake because why? i'm dark! like we can't grow something as simple as hair!

  • having straight hair isn't evrything, you have to be happy with what u have u know evry1 wants to have the perfect hair, even other ethnic groups but as for african- american people who want "good hair" they get a relaxer but what makes it unnatural to me is when black ppl startcomparintheir hair to other women's period. thats when evry thing just gets twisted

  • OMG..I'm going back natural and my parents have shown me a different side. THey are not happy at all..they think it is not feminine and not cute..I'm appalled...

But it gives me even more Push to DO IT!!

  • I would like to see less complaints and more videos about a going natural diary. I have been natural for 2 years now and I love it. I am in the process of growing my hair to my lower back. I can't wait. I am keeping a diary. I would like to see videos about black women who grew their hair long and natural. Without relaxer!

  • i have been relaxer free for two years now too! my last relaxer made all of mty hair fall out- i was left with about an inch of new growth. i now have hair that is about 3-4 inches from being bra strap length (yeah). i usually keep it in twists though. having natural hair is something i always wanted (i hated the burns that i would always get from a touch-up)but was always afraid of doing because i was afraid that it would be unmanageble. in short, i'm glad my hair fell out,t'was my wakeup call.

  • People of color are being brainwashed. Everyone needs to open their eyes and realize that people of color are the majority on earth. All of this can be over if people stop buying into this white image. White corporations use black hands to reach out to the black demographic, but the black hands they use are tools, clay molded by corporations to be what they say people of color should be. Everyone is trying to fit that caucasion mold because they think that they need to fit in with the majority.

  • If people don't accept our naturalness f*ck them. It's aggravating when another black person tells another black person that their hair needs to be "relaxed" or that their skin is too dark. This shit needs to stop. It's not even just a black thing now. Everyone is white washed and they ignore it. You have Asians telling others that their eyes slant too much and Indians telling others their skin is too dark. Why is it hot to look white? Why are people of color becoming ashamed of themselves?

  • yeah i agree.

  • So you are saying be more like white people?

  • my last relaxer was 6/9/07 (in addition to a MAJOR hair cut). needless to say my hir is growing CRAZY fast. I got the BC 3/4/08 (then went and got braids) Im just to busy to do my hair right now... + i wanna wait till the 1yr ann to rock my AU NATURAL look (and my 25th bday 6/14) My fro was crazy big though :) I am excited for june!!!

  • I am in the transition of going natural and I love it. God gave all of us different kinds of skin tones and textures of hair and we should embrace the blessings. It's only been six months without chemicals but my hair is growing faster without it. Thank you for sharing your experience. I remember my Mommy used Sulfur 8 or Blue Magic Bergamot to press and comb to make it sizzle...remember y'all???

  • These "treatments" are loaded with chemicals; if it smells bad, it's bad for your body! Women, we are in our =full= glory with our own, natural, God-given hair. I have not permed or dyed my hair in 12 years and I have no regrets. Live by your =own= standards and respect yourSelves, just as God made you.. God does not make mistakes!!

  • I am a straight (mixed) girl, but...

A big afro actually looks cool and sexy on black women.

like, for example, Pam Grier in her younger days. When she wore her hair natural = BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Sister, you keep on teaching our people the truth. Keep up the good work....

  • haha. true, very true. i forgot that

  • Their are dark-skinned asians, dark-skinned latinos, dark-skinned indians....a simple correction of letting them no your not will do. People ask me what I am all the time and I am dark brown.

  • That dark skin comes from their African ancestors!

  • monkey's don't have nappy hair so don't compare the two

  • Your heritage is very similar to my own. I've got some Jewish thrown in the mix as well. My poor nieces and nephews are part Korean as well. ;D I understand having to constantly affirm your Blackness...mostly to other hatin' Black folks, too. I love my people, but we do still have a ways to go, don't we.

  • i have never put a drop of perm in my hair in my entire life i have be natural since the day i was born im 22 and im proud be black.

  • Yes keep it as real as possible lov...

  • yeah but you are saying that ppl with perming/weaving they are not saying "black is beautiful"! You are basicly judging them by the way they do their hair. So why cant i judge you for the tone of your skin color?!

  • Thats what im trying to say! How can a certain hair texture or just your hair, make you not black or deny your roots?! Thats basicly just saying a certain skin tone make or doesnt make you "black" there is too many different black ppl in the world to be saying that kind of crap=_=

  • By you saying that comment, then i quess i can say you are not a "sistah" because you are lightskinned(judging by your name). Do you get what i am trying to say? Quit judging your own black ppl and just be happy that YOU are who YOU say YOU are!

  • How are we not saying "black is beautiful" by perming and weaving our hair? Its freaking hair for crying out loud! Yes i dont weave my hair anymore(only did it for about a year) but i do like to relax it, and i still think black is beautiful! Some ppls hair is just so unmanagable or they may not have no hair!

  • GREAT piece I really enjoyed it!!!!

  • I am a sista who has recently freed myself from perms. I receive compliments on my hair every day. Now my hair is FUN! I thank God for my natural texture and I thank God for finally appreciating it.

  • And my teacher asked me: Why is it that u have straight hair and all the pictures i see in history books are full of women and men with their afro natural hair? I'm now natural. Thanks for learning me the truth.

  • That is so true. People cover the truth by relaxing. They are so ashamed by where they come from and who they are. I'm 16 years old. I come from Ghana. And have been relaxing my hair since i was 3 years old. I never ask WHY all the women in my family were relaxing their. And last year december 06. We had a topic about the black history.

  • this disease is widespread around the world in regards to black women. they attempt to program us by regulating our beauty and relationships with european standards. we are still fighting to establish our own in this world, and we cannot build on a eurocentric standards. we are all Afrikan. we come from soul and strength and ingenuity. let us love one another, black and all!!

    Mayadia of The 144 ELiTE

  • I'm sorry, but my last thought & I'm pretty sure the last thought of most Black people is how "disappointed" we've made white folks.

White folks were "disappointed" when they stole us from our land & refused to adopt their own customs.

White folks were "disappointed" when we decided we needed to be free.

White folks were "disappointed" when my brothers & sisters stole into the night to get away from the rape & brutality of the plantations.

  • White folks were "disappointed" when we wanted to vote just like every other American.

White folks were "disappointed when we stood up for our rights.

So now tell me why your "disappointments" should even matter to me? Trust, they don't.

  • For too long we've been told from the white perspective what we need to do & what would help us. But maybe, just maybe, from a Black perspective, white people should reflect on their own issues of white privilege & the such because that would help us out tremendously.

[this was all directed at SinastralEbb]

  • You say, "Blacks have been here generations & have adoptedt the divisive term 'african american'."

My friend, lets just set the record straight. We did not adopt the term african american, in fact, it was shoved upon us by the whites of america. Just like N****r & Negro.

You say you're tired of the regurgitation. Well, we'll stop regurgitating when people start listening.

  • This is phenomenal!! I am a male working in the media marketing business... suits, coporate with locs (8 years.. I get more objections from my brothas and sistas than from white folk.. white folk love it, some black folk despise it.

  • so you said African americans should just be themselves... sooo tell me how chemically altering their hair to look similar to white people is being themselves. Part of being yourself is accepting yourself the way you are. I dont expect a white person to go out of their way to be similar to black people... thats not being oneself. so y is it alienating to just wear your hair naturally?

  • "You have been so focused on blackness,"

Excuse me, but you don't even know who I am so how do you know what I am focused on? Sure I am proud to be African American but my focus is on many things besides the color of my skin. My main focus is on God and my family.

  • According to what white scientist say, there are no native white africans. Whites are native to Europe only. Mixed people aren't solely native to any place but have connections with many.

  • "Of course you would doubt it. You have been so focused on blackness, that you forgot to bother if their are native Africans that are white."

No...I don't doubt it. Never said I did. Read again. Here I will post for you...

"Oh really? White "native" Africans? I wouldn't doubt it though knowing that all whites actually come from black people anyway."

  • Oh really? White "native" Africans? I wouldn't doubt it though knowing that all whites actually come from black people anyway. But I hope you are not talking about the albino white African because that is more of a genetic disorder than a race of people.

  • Sorry, I just did a quick search for what you refer to as a white native African and there appears to be no such thing. Of course white western people don't know everything and could be wrong, but the only white natives referenced to on the internet are the white Afrikaners. Europe is the motherland of white people as Africa is the motherland of the African.

  • "Like most blacks, you probably think all Africans are black."

I'm black and I don't think all Africans are black. Especially those in South African and the Arabs in Egypt. But the native people of Africa are black.

  • You might learn more by asking me what I think as opposed to telling me what I and most "blacks" think. The world has far more people of color than not. So, there is no "minority" pride here. I have a very clear perspective on who I am and from where I am decsended. The last I checked my world map, Spain was indeed in Europe. I am also well aware of where Northern Africa. You continue to make my point regarding the patriarchal tendencies of Europeans and their culture.

  • Here we go again, diverting time/attention away from a conversation black people are having amongst themselves, to discuss your Eurocentric view on the plight of black youth. The fact that you find the conversation so "bizarre" and "disturbing" may be a hint that these are NOT your issues. Europeans are often "disturbed" when African decendants assert their OWN ideas/culture/standards...

  • A perfect example of the patriarchy of people of European descent, frequently inserting their own opinions/ideas when NOT asked/wanted/valued. No one here is asking or frankly cares, what "whites" do. Nor do we care what you "think" we should do. It is the height of arrogance to insert yourself in discussions that don't concern you...

  • This is Really Good ,the thing is that we buy into the lie of what is or is not beautiful

  • why do most blacks have bad credit? Need real reasonable answer.

  • Very interesting...I would love to see more. I have lock for 3 years now and I am struggling with what to do with 'them'.

  • quite interesting.

  • my hair is natural just this year! It's grown in the last 4 months since I cut it. I love it, needs a lot of moisture and I need more hairstyle ideas still getting used to it...poeple needn't be so heated up about this imo, makes me wonder if I'm making a statement about my hair when I'm just wearing it how it "natuarlly" is!

  • integration in america is a lie, people who look the same still live in the own ccommunties

  • Since I started wearing my hair in its natural state, I've become more and more interested in learning and researching more about how we as a culture express our different feelings and attitudes about our hair.

I especially liked the comment of one of the people in this video... "I didn't 'go' natural. I went from unnatural". So many interesting perspectives shared in this video and in some of your comments below, too.

Thanks for sharing. Good luck with your documentary.

  • "what whites would like to see...why we are disappointed"

1.this is not the appropriate forum for this discusion

    2. no one asked

    3. go away

  • Wow...chill out....this is simply a perspective.

  • "I wasn't even born in this country. "

you weren't born in this country but you think it's YOUR place to inform an entire population what is of interest to this group?

get the fuck out of this country.

  • It is not your place to pronounce judgement on which issues are of relevance to other people.

And it is most certainly not YOUR place to pronounce what ails the black population.

If you were truly interested in "black issues", you'd shut the fuck up and LISTEN to what is of interest to others.

    GO AWAY.

You're a fucking white supremacist shit heel with a SINISTER agenda to promote a sickening agenda.

    GO AWAY.

  • " wanted to get a better understanding of how blacks relate to each other."

your "effort" to "understand the blacks" are in vain.

FYI,these videos depict the views of some black people at the time this video was recorded.

these videos do NOT represent how "the blacks" think or relate to one another.

    you are being deliberately obtuse.

you are deliberately misinterpreting this discussion to further your own SINISTER goal.

  • why on earth would you, a person who is uninterested in "racial matters" bother to

    a. watch a video devoted to issues of race.

    b. post comments about a video devoted to issues of race???

    Go away.

  • Ridiculous.

  • Say It Loud I'M Black & I'M Proud!!!

  • I really enjoyed this video. It really sends out a message

  • Thank you to the producers of this his video. It brought me to tears. I have not gone natural and have just began thinking about it. I'm sick of the lies I've been told my whole life that I'm not beautiful in a natural state. I want to be who God made me to be.

  • THAT'S RIGHT!!!! i'm lettin my perm grow out!! i grew up no thinkin i was beautiful either..

  • black women be proud of yourselves wear your hair natural.

  • Right on!!

  • yep i'm lettin myine grow out

  • This is a very moving video; it spoke volumes on so many levels!! I've been completely natural for less than 2 weeks (I did my BC exactly 12 days ago), and I must say that it is the most uplifting and empowering thing I could've done for myself. I wish more black people would make themselves aware...

  • To rock the natural you have to be a strong person, because many people of ohter ethnicities can sometyimes feel threatened when we strenghten ourselves by going natural. Its not just about hair ,its about breaking the "Slave Mentality" and freeing ourselves from the chains.

  • I can identify with the very last comment made by the sista wit da short hair. I have thick locks, not to toot my own horn here but I esteem myself to be smarter than the average bear. But a job (good one), for a young black nonconforming/informed male in a white mans world, is not as easy as my conformist family would have it seem. They make me out to be militant because of my nonconformity. But if I cut my locks for whats deemed as a good job, it's non-other than "deformation" of character.

  • i love that old man. BROTHERS AND SISTERS. he's preaching the realest shit out of all the people on this clip.

  • 2:54 said it all- I have had LOCKs for 3-1/2 yrs. Luv my hair. And yes I just went to natural from unnatural. I have to see this film

  • I really blame Black women for the way that their hair looks right now because black women are always copying white people and they really need to get their own identity.

  • But why should you blame anyone? Our hatred of our hair goes back to the times of slavery. The 1st thing slavers did when they caught Africans was to cut their hair off because hair represented a spiritual aspect of slaves that had to be erased in order to truly subjugate us. (Wish we could post links)

And if all you see on TV 24/7 is White people who are the ideal, wouldn't you have some issues as well?

  • I agree with you. about our hatred and where it comes from.We need to stop letting our children look at so much tv. It is hard though when both parents are at work or their is no dad there at all to help direct the kids.Even their grand parents are still working just to eat. I do say it is easier to perm our daughters hair to make them look presentable after a hard days work but we must take time out and teach them that their natural hair is beautiful. We are so complex it is hard. I know

  • Skymei21 is our hair our identity?

  • your missing the point. We're the only race across the board that BY DEFAULT changes out hair to look like something that its not. Our hair is a huge part of our identity because. lets face it, no other races hair looks like our natural hair. its extremely unique, so when we try and change it in mass droves, its not simply a hair/beauty issue, it points to something deeper, psychological.

  • **snap snap snap snap**

  • Both Black women and men have been misinformed & mislead about our hair. Some of the things I hear coming out of the mouths of black folks about our hair is just astonishing. The ignorance is amazing. We have a long way to go before we panic at the sight of new growth. If you blame anyone blame the haircare industry for promoting ignorance. One hairdresser told me that our hair did better with relaxers in it. Hmp!

  • That shit kills me when I hear a hair dresser say "healthy hair" and relaxer in the same sentence.

  • its good that were grounding with each other...

  • I think I'll have to disagree with the typical "but white people have issues too" comparison. There are far more similarities between a pale white non-blonde hair than the typical 'nazi ideal' than a woman with dark skin, black, tightly coiled hair and a curvaceous body and the 'nazi ideal'. Right now, it's not about how we are in relation to other groups (it's starting to get tired) but rather how we see ourselves. How other groups feel about themselves is irrelevant.

  • That was so good: "I didn't go natural, I went from Un-natural!" [Can I use that?] ;-D

  • I loved that phrase too. I hope she does not mind if I rock that phrase too.

  • Very interesting...I am too a sista with natural hair and although I loved myself with a perm, I have found a new level of love for my appearance while in my natural state.

  • I did the big chop 2 weeks ago and i never felt more free.. people tried to discouraged me because I had a round face and they told me that it would not look right.. bit I had to listen to the voice inside of me and it was sick of these chemicals i was putting in my hair.. my hair broke off terribly and tried boxed braids to rectify the problem ti no avail.. so if you are considering take the plunge you willbe glad you did it :)

  • that's exactly what you are, an animal shut the fuck up animaldamian

  • black women need to stop worrying about what others (including US) think of our hair. i wear sl's & always get compliments. my sis wore a big as fro before locking & always got complimented. we disrespect each other due to hair styles more than anyone else.

  • Iz you a joke, nigga?

  • Thanks! I wish you all the best.....

  • when people say they don't want to look african they really haven't been to africa. They are just speaking from the sterotypical views on how african bush people live. Go to africa go to nigeria and go into the beauty shops you'll see a lot of weaves, dyes and skin lightening creams. yes most of the woman do use that.

  • Mizz, that is so sad.

  • if ur implying that what i said about to cometics and things are a good thing then you were mistaken I was commenting on how it's not that diffrent. I don't care if someone has a weave but I don't like when black ppl use skin lightening creams and such

  • Umm, no I was not implying that what you said is a good thing. The situation that you mentioned is sad.

  • TEACH US! TEACH US! THIS IS AN INSPIRING VIDEO!! EVERY ONE THAT AGREES SHOULD GIVE IT 5 STARS! Don't be stingy.

  • Thanks!

  • I'm in the process of going natural! Yay! Great video by the way... Haha LOVE YOURSELF, MY PEOPLE!

  • I am natural! You will have your ups and downs but it's worth it in the end.

    I'M FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE..........

  • I'm natural too.. Have been since I wrote that message! Thanks though

  • Your art and heart are always welcome Michelle! God places us in inspiring situations to do God's work, and it's always good! stay strong and focused. :)

  • All we have to say is we hate ourselves and we hate each other. When we deal with reality, life becomes easier.

  • This is a really powerful video. This is the kind of message more women need to see. When the woman commented on how only when she has straight hair does she get compliments it really shows how steeped we are in this bias.

  • Wonderful. Natural for 3 years now. I love the power, I love my gift
