Great documentary. I'm teaching a college course on the influence of mass media on American culture; this week we're discussing the rise of the newspaper and the development of modern journalism, as well as the importance of a free press in helping create and sustain democracy. I'm going to show this to my college students - it's a great, compact introduction to a notable journalist who proved that investigating and telling stories can change the world.
There are very few YouTube posts for this really interesting woman. There's more to he life, of course (like her around the world trip in 72 days that challenged the original 80, although Nellie wasn't in a balloon), but you covered her investigative journalism side very well. Points for Nick Clooney! Thanks for posting.
Idk if it's just me, but once you go to State's you see others around you and just you overall in a whole new sense! Even though I didn't place(Innovation, junior individual exhibit) In states, I'm doing it again this year! I'm already in the forms of my process paper!
I got 1st in regionals and now im going to state, i don't mean to be rude but i find some info inaccurate. im going to film my performance and upload it sometime! your documentary is really good though! I'm pathetic when it comes to movie making!
@imnottinyjustfunsize Thanks! and no you're not being rude. Good job on 1st place, we actually used mostly primary resources for this so the info could be different than what's in books. Good luck!
I'm doing a Nellie Bly performance and I find some of your information inaccurate, and pictures misused. The matrons at the boarding house did not send her to the hospital they sent her to a judge and trial who sent her to a hospital, as well as other things
@MsBakerGurl Sorry I'm not sure what the music was called, but it's all fromk Sound Cut Pro on Mac. It's most likely under terror, but I'm not positive.
I'm doing Nellie Bly for my research project at school for an influential american. I tell people and they have NO idea who she is! in her time she was a celebrity!
Ooh. I love it. You totally deserved to go to nationals. This is way intresting. :) I'm making my documentary for NHD as we speak. And i doubt im gonna place. XD
If only u got 2nd place u would have went to nationals. u should have used more sources, u would have won. i can tell u had a lot of primary sources tho. its hard to believe that you got all that info with the lack of resources. But anyway it looks sharp. i really liked it. good thing you had a mac and u used final cut pro. I did a website this year and i am going to regionals. i hope i go to state. this year we have to use weebly. but i found a loop hole in the rule.
Great Job!!! I really like your graphics! I'm going to try Final Cut Pro for my documentary this year. I've had a little too much trouble with iMovie :)
oXOxmoonamutox0Xo: I know that you can use footage from other documentaries, such as those on the History Channel, as long as you cite the sources. I would say it took about one and a half months, with many hours of work to make this video. I'm glad you liked it and good luck:)
You are awesome. What did you use to do all this? So far Ive been using Microsoft Movie Maker and I'm about to break down from stress from nhd, because my partner is stubborn and always running off when I need his help. You advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. =]
Thanks! My group and I used Final Cut Pro to put together the whole video. To make the pictures look nicer, I edited them in Adobe Photoshop. I can understand your stress b/c Microsoft Movie Maker isn't the most cooperative program, but it still can produce great videos. You and your partner should distribute the work if it's hard too work together. This whole things all about budgeting your time so do not procrastinate! Trust me! Anyway, goodluck and don't get too stressed out :)
Wow. this is amazing!. I'm curious on how you did? I'm actually working on an NHD documentary this year. I would really appreciate any words of wisdom from your experience. Thanks. You did a phenomenal job!
Thank you! This received 3rd place in regionals, and 3rd place in the state for Pennsylvania. I had a lot of fun working on this project, and I thought it was a great experience. You learn the importance of budgeting your time, and also using primary resources, such as interviews. Good luck!
My name is Kent. We just watched your video in history class and we all think you are great. You have inspired me to be a stunt journalist. Please do more about Nellie Bly. Please respond ;)
Wow thanks Kent. I'm glad your class liked my video. You should try stunt journalism out if you are inspired! Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it :)
You are a remarkable young lady as was Nellie Bly. I am a 52 year old male who discovered Nellie Bly six years ago and was totally amazed at how little I could find out about her. Nellie Bly should be as much a part of learning in public schools as Thomas Edison. The only reason you don't have millions of views is because most people have no idea who Nellie Bly is.
Keep it up Jackie you Are On the road less traveled.... Love and Truth!
vladamis: Thank you very much for your comment! Nellie Bly is a remarkable person, and I agree that she should be part of the curriculum in all schools. I really wish more people could know about her accomplishments, because they did greatly changed our society today.
this was so great! you did an excellent job with the information and the editing of the video. really enjoyed it especially since I'm a Nellie Bly fan! 4 stars!
Great Job! You should check out my NHD documentary on Norman Borlaug. We recieved 1st in regionals and 3rd in Washington State- the competition in our state is very fierce. Please comment and post suggestions.
Very Nice Documentary! Nellie Bly is a favorite of mine. I guess my only comment is that I already knew all the information that you shared about Nellie Bly. (It is nice for a judge to have that moment when they are watching to think ,wow, I didn't realize that. It keeps their interest peeked). I would love to see what the judges chose for 1st and 2nd place because you clearly made an excellent documantary. Were you in the Senior or junior division?
thanks for the comment, there are a lot of people who don't know of Nellie Bly even though she was such an influential person. Some of the judges that watched this didn't know much about her. I'm in 8th grade so this was in the junior division
lol, well now I am surprized that the judges weren't familiar with her but maybe I shouldn't be. I am sure you know that she also went around the world in (less than 80 days) because of a challenge, she was married and she was a female correspondent during WWI. Your documentary was excellent and I hope that you will compete in the senior divion next year. The topic is Innovations in History. Wow, there are so many.... it should be really interesting! Good Luck, you can do it!
Good job especialy with the beggining shot. Do you have any other expieriences with film because this looks better than what the average Final Cut user makes. By the way good music.
It's a great documentary, the editing and effects job was awesome. However, in my opinion, including some realistic videos of your own production might give the viewer more interest, as 10 minutes is quite much for just narration and images;) But overall, it had a professional look to it, and I know, that it was a hard job, congratulations!
Bravo! Stellar effects, great interview subject, awesome in general. 1st place stuff. Maybe a wee bit more direction and better use of pauses in narration, but other than that it's a beaut.
