They got the LIfetime Achievement Award at San Diego Music Awards last night, held at Humphrey's by the Bay. They played and it was AWESOME. Chris Sullivan had a pompadour, and Gary really put on a show. It was great to be there.
One of the two best San Diego bands from the late 70's, early 80's. The other is the Unknowns. They both would play alot at the Spirit. Fortunately, I have both albums that the each released!! Priceless.
I bought MC5 "Kick Out The Jams" and Johnny Cash's Sun Hits at Monty Rockers and Dan got all excited that I bought the best records they had. Yeah, they opened for the Ramones at Montezuma Hall.
I saw them twice in San Diego. Cannot recall the venues. Possibly opened for the Ramones at Montezuma Hall. I still have two of their singles. Near Mint condition. I used to frequent Monty Rocker Rockers and talk with Dan around 78 and 79. Gave great advice on what new music to listen to. Great record store. Used to be able to rent a record. Record to cassette and then return.
They were fun, used to open for stuff like the Ramones and Iggy at the Roxy (the old PB one, now a post office), Abbey Road and the Backdoor among others. Dan was nice and funny as hell.
FINALLY!!!! The Pens (from SanDiego,Ca. for a good time!) are here. The old shows were great, it was a wonderful time, and they still sound good today as well. Hey to all you fellow Abbey Roaders... you know who you are!
