  • Failed crankshaft seals would only cause a 2 stroke to smoke as the oil gets sucked into the crankcase from primary drive and then pushed into the heads via the transfer ports. Tridents are of course, four strokes. Mine used to get about 30 to 35 mpg ( Imperial gallons ) and about 1 litre of oil every 150 miles as did my mates T160, LOL!

  • Don't believe it; mine was a smoker too. I used to change the rings and sometimes guides. it would be great for a while and then it smoked again usually after a good thrash. A friend of mine had a T160 and guess what, it smoked! Horrible on fuel too- never seemed to matter though. I still love em and would love to get another one

  • The problem was the piston rings. I had fitted non-standard piston rings which had exerted too much pressure on the bores wearing them rapidly. Re-honing the bores and fitting the standard rings has cured the problem and Purple Haze is now a non smoker!
